I have a van Chrysler Town & Country. On September 1, 2007, I crashed it into another car, my mother was a front passenger and my 2 year old daughter was on the back seat in her car seat. After the crash, I made sure everyone was ok, when I noticed that my daughter was not on the seat, she was on the floor of the van with her car seat on top of her, meaning that the seat belt did not work, it got loose. Thanks god she was fine, just very scared. On the other hand, my mother looked ok, just a big bump on the back of her head, she said, but when she tried to get out of the car, her knees were all bruised and soar. Trying to figure out why, we realized that her seatbelt was broken. The release red bottom was found on the floor, therefore we also realized that with the impact of the crash and the seat belt broken, she went further than she should have and bumped her knees with the dash board. The van is being completely repaired and I have the front and rear passenger seat belts.

I just watched a local news station about Chrysler's gen 3 seat belt latches. It appears that they need to be recalled. What will NHTSA do about this? hoe long will it be for NHTSA to take action?.

Rear seat belt latch around child car seat will mysteriously unbuckle. Proper installation of the car seat has been verified several times but latch seems to unbuckle after normal movement of my child in the seat. My research into this issue revealed that Chrysler installed gen iii latches in the rear of our van even though there is evidence showing that they are unsafe. This is a very frightening situation and I will be contacting the dealer to try and negotiate replacement of all rear seat latches in this vehicle. I hope that these latches will be recalled before someone else gets injured.
Consumer has 2 child seats in middle rear bench stalk seatbelts. If seat belt lock is bumped it can easily be unlatched. Consumer has driven without knowing that child seat was not secured. Consumer checking child seat before traveling. One child is in a safety seat the other is not. When the older child knocks up against both locks they come undone easily. This unlatching is continuous.

I am complaining about the safety belt buckle in my daimlerchrysler 1997 minivan. It is a Chrysler gen3 belt that does not pass the standard auto industry test for accidental release. Additionally, it is too easy to insert the tang wrong, where the belt is not latched at all.

Concern about the gen3 buckles in my vehicle with 2 small children accidentally being unbuckled by some object inadvertently that Chrysler claims to be safe from being unbuckled by something striking it. ***dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12-12-02 cut over to artemis***762411.
