: the contact stated while driving 30 mph, the check engine light illuminated intermittently. This was accompanied by a rough engine idle. As the engine warmed up, the idle calmed. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, who ran a diagnotic test, and determined that the number 6 injector had malfunctioned internally, due to the wiring harness rubbing against the transmission case. The short was traced to the engine harness. The wires were replaced, and a bracket was added to retain the harness. The repair fixed the problem. The manufacturer was also notified. Updated 01/10/07.

2003 town and country lxi did not start after successfully operating vehicle earlier in the day. Jumped vehicle and then drove to establish battery power. Vehicle stalled when going into reverse, then again at 40 mph this happened on a total of six different occasions. Vehicle had lost charge the next morning and had to be jumped to get to dealership. Technician could not duplicate problem, no codes to report upon first inspection. Service attendant took vehicle for a drive and experienced stalling while reversing vehicle and then again when accelerating above 40 mph. Eight individual codes have been identified. And the dealership wants more money to reach a diagnosis on this "intermittent" problem. Nhtsa has 5 records of this exact problem. Vehicle has 48,000 miles to date. When will manufactures stand behind a product and offer assistance to fix an obvious defect??????? what recourse does a consumer have after spending significant $$$ to invest in a top of the line product???? I am amazed how the dealership bends over backwards to get you to sign on the dotted line when purchasing but leaves you hanging when there is a need. This is five star qualities and service???.

I just started driving my car this morning, when I noticed white smoke coming out from under the hood. None of my engine warning lights were on, and the temperature gauge was in the normal range. I pulled over and called for help, but had to get out of the car when the flames started coming out from under the hood. Entire front end of minivan was on fire, engine/battery melted, front windshield cracked/melted, hood melted. Fire department called and put out fire.

The large (1. 5in. ) bundle of wires that goes from the battery/fuse box to the starter/other places. . . Goes through a cutout in the bottom/front of the vehicle this bundle rubs with vibration untill the insulation is gone. Short causes the fire. My brother's van is built the same way.

During normal driving vehicle began to experience rough engine operation, flashing engine indicator appeared on dash and within 15 seconds vehicle stalled out and was braked to a stop on a hillside. All attempts to restart vehicle were fruitless and it had to be towed to the nearest dealer's shop. After two full days in the shop it was determined that the main wiring harness chafed on the side of the transmission and shorted. This blew a fuse, burned out the coil and the throttle position sensor. The solution consisted of repairing and resecuring the harness to prevent chafing, a new coil and a new throttle position switch were installed. Selling dealer indicated that this was the fifth vehicle with this problem. This is obviously a manufacturing/design defect which could be easily avoided. The consequence of this failure could have been much worse if the short and the subsequent loss of power and control occured during highway driving, especially in traffic at high speed.

I have already filed a verbal report on the phone, however my van that we purchased new caught fire on sept. 19. 2000. I, e. Amanda harris wasthe primary operator of the vehicle. I just wanted to add some additonal info. To the original report. We had always taken the car to be serviced and at one such time I complained to the dealer that whenever I filled the van up with gas I smelled gas fumes inside of the van as if something was leaking. They returned the van indicating nothing was wrong. During the first 30 days after I purchased the vehicle one of the sealent rings fell off and the transmission fluid poured out. I was stranded dangerously on the side on the road during rush hour traffic with five children. We used the van for family travel also. On the day of the event it was the grace of god that the vehicle didn't blow up with my children in the vehicle. Many times they would have been sleeping. We purchased this vehicle because we thought is was safe, only to find out it wasn't. Worse yet I cannot afford to purchase another vehicle yet and we are struggling with one 4 dr sedan until we can afford to do better. I cringe when I see any van these days, especially Chrysler, Dodge or Plymouth. I'm grateful I'm alive.
Starter and engine wiring harness caught on fire while vehicle was parked and engine off. Dealer replaced starter. There were no prior warnings to fire. This may have caused serious injuries to cosumer.
Consumer drove vehicle for approximately 5 minutes, parked vehicle and turned off ignition. 10 minutes later, fire started underneath the hood in engine. Fire dept had to extinguish the fire. Chrysler representative stated that it might have been fuel pump, but then denied claim. Vehicle was a total loss.
Vehicle started smoking after an hour parked in garage. Consumer was able to move vehicle out of garage, smoke decreased after vehicle was outside. Dealer notified, and found the cause in the electrical harness under the hood. Repair made at no cost to the consumer.
Windshield wipers have self-actuated over 100 times while driving. I have taken the car back to dealer (galeana) seven (7) times and they cannot fix the problem. I consider this a safety problem because there is some kind of "short circuit" in the electrical system that could cause a fire and we may be trapped in the car. It is startling to the driver to have the wipers come on suddenly while you are driving at highway speeds and could cause the driver to lose control of the car.
After driving the vehicle for about (10) minutes, driver saw smoke coming from under the hood. When checking the vehicle discovered there was a fire which started in the engine. The vehicle was totalled.
Crash test by the insurance institute for highway safety shows that fuel leak after an offset frontal crash resulted in a catastrophic fire.
While pulling vehicle in parking garage saw smoke coming from under the hood. Consumer raised hood and vehicle was on fire. There was no warning. Contacted dealer, and dealer urged consumer to contact insurance company.
