The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated whenever accessing the driver's side sliding door it would open partially and then close immediately. The vehicle was repaired previously for a recall under NHTSA campaign id number 10v235000 (electrical system: wiring). The failure recurred one year after the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was not repaired for the most recent malfunction. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.
Slider doors on my minivan will not open and close completely electrically. Chrysler has admitted there is a problem with a short in the wiring harness by recalling certain vehicles. On my car there are times when the door cannot be opened manually or electrically from inside the car. There have been some cars that started on fire. Why doesn't Chrysler admit they have a big problem for many years and recall these vehicles and correct the problem before they have a severe problem.

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated the driver side automatic side door would release without assistance. In addition, the passenger and driver side automatic doors failed to open and close properly. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis three times pertaining to the same failure. The vehicle was repaired yet the problem persisted. Most recently, the contact received a recall notification associated with the NHTSA campaign id number 10v235000 (electrical system: wiring) but the vehicle had not yet been repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000.
The automatic sliding door wiring breaks which causes the door to stop operating and it causes the wires to arc which in turn can cause a fire the vechile in question is a 2008 Chrysler town and country I have found the solution to this problem on ytube so I am not the only one having this problem.

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country. The contact was in his residence when he heard the vehicle alarm sound. Within seconds, there was smoke and flames coming from under the hood near the driver side. The fire department was called to extinguish the fire. A fire report was available. The manufacturer investigated the vehicle and found that the fire was caused by the relay box. The vehicle was destroyed. There were no prior warnings of the failure. The current and failure mileages were 14,000. Updated 10/13/bf the consumer also stated the driver side sliding door was inoperative. The door would close 1/2 way and then open back up intermittently before the incident. Updated 10/14/jb.
Van started running rough and smoking heavy blue/white smoke out the exhaust pipe. The smoke was from raw unburned fuel that was pouring into the engine and unable to be burned off at any rpm below 3000. The van was fine when last parked at our residence. Next day wife was going to the store and van immediately had the problem. Cool engine, had been sitting overnight. She drove about half a mile thinking the van would run smoother before seeing and smelling the gas and smoke. She immediately returned the van to the house. I checked the diagnostic code which indicated p0201: #1 fuel injector open circuit. I am fairly handy with vehicle repairs and decided to take the top half of the intake off to check the #1 injector and inspect the other 5 as well while there. All injectors coil resistance checked fine at 12. 5 ohms, no open circuit as indicated. Decided to check the fuel rail wiring harness for a short circuit and sure enough the #1 cylinder wiring indicated a short circuit. With the meter on the injected plug, wiggled the harness and the short went away. So I removed the entire injected wiring harness for inspection, this involved removing all the factory wire wrap and protective sleeve. Discovered that all the wires inside the harness had all the insulation missing at one section next to the main harness connector. The harness was protected and not touching any part of the engine yet failed. I contacted local Chrysler parts dept. And inquired about a replacement harness, response was new harness over $200 and had to be ordered. Was also told that this particular harness which fits 2001 - 2003 Chrysler vans, is ordered by Chrysler garages at 53 units a week. This is where the problem lies. This is a factory flaw and needs to be recalled before a fire starts or toxic fumes from the exhaust injures a passenger. There is no heat shield at this connectors location which I believe caused the harness failure. I repaired the harness and engine runs.

Starting when my 2006 Chrysler Town & Country van had 29,0245 miles on the odometer, the passenger side window began to behave erratically. Some days the window would go up and down when the driver's console switch was pushed other times it would respond to the switch on the door. Other days it did nothing when the switch was pushed. After approximately 6,000 miles, but while mileage was still less than 36,000, the window refused to work at all no matter what switch was used. I have asked various dealer service departments if they have successfully repaired similar situations. The answer is always no. I ask if there is a recall out on this problem. They say no. Since this is similar to my problem with my 1997 Dodge caravan where the windshield wiper switch refused to turn on the wipers, even after another, certified correctly operating stalk switch was installed and all wiring checked. The wipers still worked mechanically when the "wash" position was pushed. Finally I had to have a new "body control module" computer installed and all this took three trips to the dealer and cost $741. 19, I did not want to leave my van to be "experimented upon" (with me paying the bill). I believe all this is the result of the installation of a defective computer module (which they call "body control module") during the manufacture of the vehicle. I also think I should not have to pay to have it fixed as the vehicle was basically "programmed to fail" due to the use of defective parts. I authorize the national highway traffic safety administration to utilize my description(s) to discuss this matter with Chrysler corporation.
Our 2003 Chrysler town and country ex model which has been well maintained with periodic maintenance, was being driven at highway speed when the engine began to shudder and engine light illuminated. A strong odor of gasoline was present, so the van was towed to a local garage. The original diagnosis was a bad fuel injector (at 99,700 miles, not totally abnormal). We had a new injector installed, however on the way home the same issue recurred. The shop then said the computer gave a huge list and was likely defective. We had the car towed to the local Chrysler dealer. At the dealer, they agreed, and replaced the computer, however the problem was still present. The electrical technician, then spent 2 days tracing the problem. As it turns out there were about 8 or 9 of the 12 wires in the fuel injector wiring harness were bare and shorting together causing the car to run badly, and polluting the oil with fuel in the process. There is an obvious bend in the wire at the point where the bare wires were in the harness. This harness is hidden from view by a protective sleeve, and there were no cuts in the sleeve. The dealer stated that our van provided them with the information needed to fix 3 other vans they couldn't fix before. The bare wiring ruined our pcm, and in the presence of the extra fuel vapors, was extremely dangerous, basically a bomb waiting for the right spark. Because this problem was found in other vehicles, and it is a major safety issue, I believe it warrants investigation, and a possible recall for all vans with this same engine harness. Chrysler was no help in resolving the issue, which in my view was either an installation error or faulty part. Although, there was no external property damage, the faulty part cost me $1400. 00 in repairs and the loss of use for 2 1/2 weeks. The wiring harness is available at my home, and I will be happy to send it upon request.

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler town and country. The contact learned that her turn signal failed when she was informed by another driver who almost rear ended her vehicle. She stated that the signals were flashing normally in the passenger compartment. She took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the inside turn signals should have also failed; therefore, it is a manufacturer defect. The dealer replaced several parts before discovering that a wire located between the front seats caused the failure. The total cost for repair was $1,200. The manufacturer filed report number 18623701, but would not assist with the repair because there was no recall and the vehicle was out of warranty. The VIN was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 40,600.
The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the wiring harness was routed the incorrectly and creating a condition where the lower sliding door hinge bracket could make contact and wear through the wire insulation. The contact referenced NHTSA recall campaign id number: 10v235000 (electrical wiring) however, the recall was not expected to begin for three months. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was approximately 45,000.
Vehicle ran poorly at times and occasionally stumbled or stalled. Sometimes we would be partly in a busy intersection. Perform diagnostics and inspection, remove exhaust for inspection of harness and repair damaged wiring and install protective heat wrap. Cost: $268. 93 could have been very dangerous in traffic.
The contact owns a 2001 Chrysler town and country. While driving 40 mph, the contact drove over a pothole and the vehicle shut off. He attempted to restart the vehicle four times, but was unsuccessful. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic and it was discovered that the computer and wiring were faulty. The wiring material installation on the fuel inject rail harness was failing and exposed the copper wires in the engine. The wiring shorted out, which caused the computer to fail and the vehicle to shut off. The manufacturer stated that they had never heard of this failure. The contact had to purchase a brand new wiring harness. The vehicle was repaired and there had been no further occurrences. The current mileage was 117,526 and failure mileage was 115,000. The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country. While driving various speeds, all of the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. In addition, the headlights failed and the sliding door spontaneously opened. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer on several occasions and they replaced the entire wiring system, the totally integrated power module, and the win module. As of December 8, 2008, all of the remedies have been unsuccessful in repairing the failures. The failure mileage was 3,402 and current mileage was 8,700.
Had a tire blow out on front drivers side. The blown tire ripped out the body wiring harness and the integrated power module of the vehicle causing ultimate power failure. The wires were shredded and wrapped around the rim. We strongly believe that this is a design flaw by Chrysler allowing the wiring harness of the vehicle to be placed directly over the wheel well. This cause failure of the brake system, and total loss of all power to the vehicle.
Events leading to failure are just standard driving conditions in traffic or interstate. Van completely loses power momentarily causing the transmission to slam back into gear and abruptly halt forward motion. All headlights go out causing zero vision. Dealers has serviced 4 times w/ absolutely no resolution. This is a serious injury or death situation just waiting to happen.
Vehcile head lights do not turn on; after starting vehicle we switched on the headlights and nothing happened. Sometimes we turned the vehicle off and started it again and they would magically come on. Sometimes we flipped the headlight switch a dozen times and they magically come on. The condition would not happen when we would take it in for service. The high beams would work if we pulled the lever towards the drivers seat. There were many times we would be out after dark, go to leave and have no headlights and the lights would work when we took it in for service. We were finally able to get it in this past summer when the lights were not working; the headlights began shutting off while we were driving the vehicle so were able to get in when the condition existed. The mechanic said the bottom of the fuse box was corroded (a common problem with this model he told us) and a lot of the wires running into the fuse box were corroded and the box needed to be replaced along with some wiring harness's. After replacing the fuxe box and some of the harness's. The headlights still did not work for the mechanic. He then replaced the switch and headlights began working. The headlight problem is a common problem we are told. We have paid almost $800. 00 for this 'fix' that has plagued this vehicle for years and were able to finally diagnose 'after' the warranty has expired, while risking our lives. The frustration of trying to get somewhere with the lights shutting off, while driving; or going somewhere not to have heaqd lights turn on; having to drive with high beams was/is unsafe to our family and other drivers.
I authorize hnsta to write a letter on my behalf to: daimler Chrysler customer center p. O. Box 218004 auburn hill michigan 48321-8004 on Friday August 3, 2007 was parked on troy Ave between eastern parkway and union st in brooklyn NY while parked on the west bound side of toy Ave. I was talking to some associates when the right passenger side tail light of my 2006 Chevrolet grand caravan burst into flames. The vehicle is currently at the dealer: bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge 212-19 northern blvd bayside, NY 11361-3193 I would like Chrysler to exchange this vehicle for a safer one. There mechanics has determined there was an electrical defect in this one. I believe this type of circumstance should not fall under the lemon law as a common defect. I am really glad I did no take the trip to north carolina with my family and this occurred on the highway or my wife was driving alone with my two kids. There was a wiring short in the tail lamp. Updated 09/10/07.
Over a period of a few weeks I was experiencing intermittent electrical problems where the air conditioner (a/c) fan, radio, windshield wipers, and power windows would stop working for several minutes and then start working again. The problem got worse over these weeks. After 3 trips to the dealer they told me that battery acid had leaked on the wiring harness and I needed a new one. I had no problem with the battery, and Chrysler dealers had performed most on the maintenance on the car and no one had told me that battery acid was leaking on the wiring harness. The new wiring harness cost me $2,600. It seems to me to be a defect in design to run the wiring harness under the battery. Also, why can't the wiring harness be modular where one section could be replaced at a much lower cost.
Car engine shutdown in traffic but would restart. Engine shutdown at highway speeds and jump started without turning key. Plastic wire insulation burning smell noted when returned to driveway. Vehicle delivered to dealer for diagnosis and repair. Tech report verified broken and corroded wire in wiring harness: "upon inspection found fault code p1389 no asd relay output voltage at pcm & p1388 = auto shutdown relay control circuit. Removed d pcm wire harness and found asd output from pcm being lost. Traced bn/wt wire from pcm connector to ipm. Found wire cut and full of corrosion. Cut out bad section of wire and spliced new section in. Reinstalled all components are verified repairs. Vehicle is performing as designed. ".

: the contact stated the engine light illuminated intermittently and while parked in the drive way, the engine failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined the battery acid leaked onto the wiring causing the engine to fail. The wiring was placed below the battery due to improper installation by a manufacturer defect. The contact notified the manufacturer. The vehicle had not been repaired.
The contact owns a 2002 Chrysler town and country. The contact has experienced several issues with the electrical components in his vehicle. The vehicle would jump when the accelerator pedal was depressed or accelerating at any speed. The dealer replaced all the wires, wiring harness, spark plugs, and the battery; however, the failure continued. The automatic doors also became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to a different dealer and they stated that a new oxygen system was needed. The computer system and spark plugs wires were replaced, but the failure continued. The manufacturer was notified and a case was filed. They stated that the vehicle could be repaired under warranty. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and current mileage was over 100,000.
My driver side window would not go up or down.
The wiring harness in our 2002 Chrysler Town & Country continues to fail due to the harness design/placement in the vehicle. The first failure caused the vehicle to stall and not restart at a city intersection. The second failure caused the vehicles wipers, heater blower, radio and windows to fail intermittently. Wires within the wiring harness were replaced/repaired as was the front control module; however, the same problem is happening again after about three weeks. The dealer service department recommends replacing the entire wiring harness at a cost of $3,200. 00.
2001 Chrysler Town & Country minivan-multi-passenger/ oct 1st 2005. Was driving into a burger king drive-thru with the air-conditioning on. Suddenly there was a metallic kind of noise like a crunching on the right side where the air-conditioning system is located, then the vehicle started to lose power. I turned the air off and the noise stopped. After leaving burger king the air was turned back on, the same noise occurred; later smoke started billowing from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken in today 10/04/05 to southeast automotive, who informed me that the compressor was the problem. I referred them to the warranty of the vehicle (not Chrysler) who informed them that there is a bulletin out on this same problem. The dealer claims that they were not aware of this. Anyway I was told that Chrysler will fix the problem. Currently there is a problem with the brakes on the right side of the vehicle. They are squealing and at the same time there is another noise on that end like struts or bearings or some other part is lose. It occurs when I brake or accelerating after I have stopped or when I turn the wheel of the vehicle. I asked the dealership to also check the brakes since they had just fixed both of them back on 3/14/05. They said that they drove it and do not detect any noises. I am concerned about this also, because it feels like the brakes are going to fail or that some other part on the right wheel of the vehicle is going to come loose at some point and become a danger to my family and I. A couple of months ago the engine died and all instrument panels went out while going up my drive-way. On another occasion the power window on the driver's side suddenly stopped working. Had to turn the engine off and wait for about two minutes before attempting to close again. One other thing that concerns me is that when in reverse the vehicle moves forward freely like if in the "drive mode".
The contact had a problem with the malfunctioned light coming on. She called the dealership and the rmps revved. She was afraid to drive . She had the vehicle towed to dealer . On 9-12-05 they told her the van was ready. They said what was wrong with the car was not under warranty, but they were not going to charge her for it. The dealership told her that the wiring harness had been cut. The dealer told her they had spliced the wires. The consumer talked to someone she knew who worked for Honda, and this person said there was no way the wires were cut while driving the car, the wires had to be that way when the car was manufactured.
The clockspring connector has failed on my 97 Chrysler minivan. The airbag light stays on, the horn does not work and cruise control does not work. I understand this is a defective part with over 125,000 replacement items sold and a $250 repair. Chrysler should cover the cost of this repair.
Over the last 6mos the seat heater on our tc Mini van has continually overheated. Burns legs. Dealership said our fault and nothing they can do. Our expense. One of the reasons we bought this van was because of the seat heaters. Have bad back and heat helps. Very disappointed with quality of product for the price paid. Have stopped using seat htr. And will not buy another Chrysler. Van has been in shop for many other problems, speedometer, starter, tires leaking due to rims, egr valve, leaky boot, struts, etc. . . More items replaced than I expected.
Radio and clock would not turn on when car started. Then it turned into the radio and air conditioning unit would not turn on - intermittently. This began in August. 2004, but stopped in October. 2004. Then it began again in early April 2005 or on days when it was warmer and/or wet. Periodically the windshield wipers and windows will not work, also. This incident occursred when the car was running, and did not matter if it was moving or not. However, it did not occur in temperatures lower than 45 degrees, or so. Dealership kept it for two days in 2004 and could not find the problem. Tried to say it needed a new electronic wiring harness which would incur a personal cost of over $4,000 for a car that was barely 2 years old.
Problems with power steering pump on 2002 Chrysler town and country. There was a continuous problem with the consumers power steering pump. The steering pump made a noise when a right turn was made. The airbag light had come on due to a loose connector on the passenger side which was an intermittent problem. The transmission was noisy, which was possibly due to dirt.
