2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2016

Got home, put car in park & let go of the brake. Noticed I was rolling backwards so I quickly pushed on the brake. Looked on my dash & it indicated the car was in reverse, so I pushed on the gear shifter to make sure it was pushed all the way up, which it was. I then turned the car off & tried to turn it back on. The car then wouldn't start 7 the gears would not change. Looked online, seen there was a common issue with the pink plastic piece connected to the gear. Pushed the pink plastic piece in & it allowed me to switch gears when it was held in but I am still unable to crank my car & even when the gears are switched the dashboard says the car is still in reverse. Looked up recalls & sure enough there is a recall but of course when I entered my car information it doesn't apply to my car. I also have replaced the alternator 4 times in 3 years. I was told that it is a poor design that causes the alternator to wear down & lock up so quickly. I will ever buy another chrystler Dodge vehicle in my life. This car has by far been the worst investment of my life. I really hope something happens to get these cars off of the road forever before they end up killing someone due to the highly poor design of everything in them!.

3 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2015

On Dec. 17 2015 battery indicator came on while driving on fredrick in st joseph mo then shortly after voltage light and air bag light came car lost steering control and power driving had to coast car into parking lot. Towed car to firestone changed battery left firestone lights came on again took it to Dodge dealer they diagnosed and said it was the pcm regulator that charges the battery was bad. Pcm is back ordered over a hundred units. I've been charging car at night for the last 30 days so I could still use car due to dealer not able to give loaner because they have no when the part will be in to fix car issue. I fear that this is a safety risk because at anytime while driving the car may loose voltage and I will loose control of the car. This is the only car I have.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

I am having trouble with the electronics in the front two windows. The passenger side quit working on the drivers side control then the passenger side switch. Approx. Two weeks later the driver window won't go down but will go up. One of the engine ports on the passenger side is stuck open and I have tried using sea foam. Both front struts went out at the same time a month ago. Replaced the alternator three weeks after buying the car that was three year's ago. It seems to be one thing after another has to get fixed on this car. I have repaired the a/c unit on it twice this summer. Now the powering steering unit is making a noise when the wheel is turned. Wouldn't recommended this car to anyone. Nice looking but falls apart to easy in a short time frame.

Failure Date: 02/15/2012

While driving the car all of a sudden the cruise control shits off and the rpms start going up to 5 rpms if I barely touch the gas. So I pull over and shut the car off and then the car will not crank back up. Have replaced the battery and alternator both two times.

8 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

The window regulators and motors continuously go out causing the windows to be unable to roll up or down. I have replaced them at least twice since 2010 and they now need to be repaired again, for a third time. This has happened while stationary, while driving on city streets, and while driving on highways.

9 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2011

My 2008 Dodge Avenger had been sitting in front of my house since the beginning of may 2011. On the 24th of June 2011 I decided to take it in to the Dodge dealers to have it fixed. While driving on the highway the car suddenly started to make a loud roaring noise and jerk. I drove into an exit in order to get off the highway. While trying to turn the steering wheel to enter the yard of a station I noticed that there was no response. The car kept sliding towards the curb. I had to quickly pull up the handbrakes to stop the car from running into the curb and beyond. Then it stalled blocking the entrance to the gas station. Before totally stopping, all the lights and indicators on the dash board were going on and off like crazy this is the second time that I have had to tow the car in to the Dodge people. The first time, in 2010, the shift stick would not budge from park to drive and the car just wouldn’t start. We had it towed to the Dodge dealer in baltimore. In January of 2011, we had had to take the car in to Dodge repair shop for a problem for which they had recalled their vehicles, including ours. We mentioned to the mechanics at the Dodge repair shop about a loud noise that we were hearing. They had said that the loud noise was probably the alternator. We bought this car in March 2009 at a Ford dealer in baltimore. We noticed very soon after, that the clock raced ahead. Next the controls on the driver’s side stopped working and would not lock nor unlock any of the doors. Only the controls on the passenger’s side worked. The cost to fix the alternator is $650. It has cost us, not only car rental fees taxi fees and towing fees, but the uncertainty of safety on the road. This is a very unfair deal for any consumer. This is a vehicle that needs to be recalled and consumers compensated or refunded. .

10 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2010

My 2008 Dodge Avenger started making a loud noise. The dealership told me it was my alternator. But I have power to everything. They told me they could get one for 360. 00 +100. 00 labor. Total miles 78,000. I was also told by the dealership that this has happened alot on Mini vans. And other cars, but come to find out it may just be the clutch bearing and only going to cost 75. 00 to fix. Seems to me Chrysler would not try to sell you things you don't need. Someone needs to bring them to the carpet. The car was only 3,000 miles out of the ext. Ml. Warranty.

11 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2009

I have a Dodge Avenger 2008 which a complete lemon. I have taken my car to several Dodge dealerships (~15x) after speaking the Chrysler headquarters and all have refused to fix the car stating that there was not a problem with it. I currently have an extended contract 7yrs/70k warranty which I picked at the time of purchase and it is still valid, however no Dodge dealer will serve my car. Eventually I have had to pay out of pocket to fix the electrical problem and replace at least one catalytic converter because, Dodge dealers would not fix the problem when it was at the 24k mile mark. So, please tell me which federal agency have the authority to holds the independent car dealerships and Chrysler accountable to fix problems. Your recall notices work only 25% of the time. Do you all have a scorecard of actual vehicles being repaired in accordance to your notices because there is a big disconnect with companies such as Chrysler. I have spent almost $4,000 in needed repairs (travel from NY to NJ daily for work) because Chrysler's independent companies refused to repair the vehicle and Chrysler has told me that they have no control over the dealerships. So, which federal agency officiates control over unreliable car companies such as Chrysler. How much collateral damages is required before Chrysler and its management (and engineers) become accountable to consumers and the federal regulatory standards. As for me, $4,000 is a small cost to pay to avoid an accident and leave a child an orphan because the fuel tank was defective and caused at accident. What cost are you willing to pay?.

12 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Avenger. The contact was driving 45 mph when the engine stalled. The vehicle was restarted and taken to the dealer who confirmed that the alternator was defective and there was as short the cruise control. The manufacturer was contacted and stated the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 08v152000 (electrical system: wiring). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 75,900.

13 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2008

I have had nothing but problems with my car. When I first purchased it 2 months later my shifter got stuck I was stranded at work. After that I have had various problems from the alternator, battery, and compressor going out various times and it is not even over 100,000 miles. I looked up there were recalls on the car back in 07 and 08. The dealership says that they fixed it but I feel like it was not fixed and I had the shifter problem right when I purchased that is the only thing they said they can fix.
