Cars has been randomly stalling and stopping while im driving. It has happened multiple times on the day it happened. My horn also intermittently goes off with no warning and sometimes it sound of for minutes at a time. After doing some research the issue points to the tipm (totally integrated power module).
The horn will randomly sound. It may be operating on city streets, on the highway, parked, and even when not running. The horn does not sound from the steering wheel pad which is a safety concern and causes a safety inspection failure. The horn sounds when the key fob lock button is pressed intermittently. The horn when sounding on its own may sound on and off, or one continuous sound. When taken to a mechanic it was determined the tipm (total integrated power module) is failing in multiple ways, and is the cause for the horn sounding. The tipm is known to cause wipers stopping, lights stopping, etc and poses a very serious risk. I was astounded to know how frequently this occurs and yet no action has been taken.
The headlights and horn light and sound intermittently also interior lights also flash on and off. Having intermitten problems with the wipers. Also the battery keeps goimg dead. This has been happening at night as the car is sitting in the driveway. This has been going on for over a month now.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 162,000.
We have been having a lot of problems with our car lately. First problem we had was with our alarm system. The alarm has gone off on us both when the car is off and when the car is on. The horn starts and won't go off until after about 5 minutes no matter what we do. We have try turning it of with our key alarm, turning the car on and off, unlocking the doors but nothing seems to work. Yesterday we were driving our car and the car stall and we were lucking to be able to pull to the side safetly since we were coming to a stop. After a couple attempts, we got the car back on and running. I have search this problem and I found that it could be the tpms. As to what we have experience with the car lately, we are almost sure it is this. We contacted the dealership and we were told that this recall was perform back in April of 2008 and are not responsible for anything the car is going through now and will not replace the part for us again. Can you please let me know if the dealership is required to switch this part for us again since our car is not safe to drive or if we would have to solve this problem.

Horn started blaring, lights where going on and off while sitting in parking lot, driveway and when driving. Car started stalling when this problem started. Took to dealer and was told it was the tipm. Saw where in 2008 Dodge/Chrysler had issue with the tipm but the 2008 Avenger was left off. Have seen on Dodge talk and multiple other web sites that the 2008 Dodge Avenger has had this issue and Dodge/Chrysler is aware of it. It is a safety issue and they should have to repair the vehicles. Car currently at venice Dodge chyrsler dealership. 941-493-7986.

My car horn goes off periodically and stays on when im driving or parked without me blowing it . Also my seat belt light comes on every time I turn on the vehicle . When im driving tge engine oil light comes on the wheel tighten up and the vehicle slows down and cuts completely off. I have been driving on busy streets when this happen as well as express ways. Once it cuts off if I sit and a couple minutes the car may start back driving like nothing happen. . . Usually. I sit for 30 minites before it start up. . I have taken it tp mechanica and its something with the electrical system no codes are coming up when I went to place it on a machine. . One mechanic said it my be the ignition not connecting . . Can this be investigated because this car is doing things on its own the horn will go off when im parking driving and the fuse was checked.
A few things have happened all pointing towards a failed/failing tipm module. The first thing we noticed was the car would stall while sitting still in rush hour/bumper to bumper traffic. Then in early 2014 the windshield wipers started turning off during snow/rain storms almost causing accidents a few times that we replaced the wipers, wiper switch and wiper motor and still have the issue randomly. Last week the horn started to randomly go off to the point that I was driving to work today and it went off and did not stop. Saw the NHTSA investigation into chryslers tipm's so wanted to put something in because I do not see the 2008 Avenger in the lists online and this is more than likely a failing/failed. Tipm. Dealerships want $800-1000 for the replacement, rockauto, com has it for $260 ($200 core charge) $460 total to get the replacement part then return the core. I have a friend with 2006 Dodge 3500 diesel that he had to replace his tipm recently and got one from rockauto. Com as well and recommended them as the go to place given Chrysler's inability to take responsibility to notify their car owners of the potential risk/hazard. I am the original owner of my Avenger and bought it new October 2007.
I purchased this vehicle from a used car lot a year and a half ago. From the very first day I purchased the car, I had problems which are recoreded with the place of purchase. I was told I could not get my money back. The only remedy offered was for the actual car dealership who sold me the vehicle would fix the problem. The first problem ive had started with the head lights, it then went onto my entire electrical system that gives milage, warnings ect went out. Soon after that the alarm system, horn ,and door locking system. There after "a pin" in which holds the gear in place went out and would not operate. The next thing that went out was the entire air conditioning and heating system. On or around April 12 there was a what looked like a spark near the air conditioning panal. When I removed the panel, there was evidence that there was a small spark or fire that actually melted a switch on the cooling and heating elements. It has yet to work since then. Today the 11/29/11 my car completely stalled while I was turning into a very dangerous intersection. This car is a total death trap waiting to happen. Unfortunately I am a single mother of 3 children with very little options finacially to do otherwise. I have attempted several times to schedule recalls to be fixed by the Dodge dealer and they have not been helpful at all. There is no rental car offered and the estimated time of repair is not feasable. I hope this information will help.
