41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2012

While driving on the interstate, my car suddenly dropped to 20mph and I had to pull off the road. I didn't have anywhere to pull over so I put my flashers on and drove as far right as I could until I had room to pull off the road. It was a very busy part of the interstate and I could have easily been ran over. I had to have it towed to the local dealership where they replaced and electric throttle. This is an issue Dodge Chrysler has been aware of for many years. It should be recalled.

Failure Date: 09/11/2012

My daughter was driving home from work at 60mph and all of sudden the radio was cutting off and on and then the car started hesitating and then just cut off. After having it towed home found that the starter was burt up. Replaced starter with new and car fired up and ran for about an hour when the new started that was just replaced also burt. . . This happened two more times. . . The car has been broke for two years now. I have it at an independent mechanic shop with another starter. . . . They cannot find the short in the electrical system thats causing this starter to fry! the car starts fine. . . Idles fine. . . Until you drive it for about 3or 4 miles and then the starter starts burning. . . . I can stop the car when I hear the starter winding and burning and take the key completely out and the starter stays stuck in starting position till it burns completely up. . . . There definitely is an electrical issue that no one has heard of,and very hard to fix.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2012

While driving on highway, etc light came on signifying problem with throttle component. Many statements online urged to open claim here as this can be an expensive problem that is not covered by warranty or recall.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2012

I have been receiving electronic throttle control errors for about a year now (lightning bolt between inverted parenthesis). It happens sporadically but seems to occur more frequently. The last episode occurred today on my morning commute to work - 04/04/2012, approximately 0725. The error code will flash and it becomes more difficult to accelerate. When I take my foot off of the gas pedal to decelerate, the car will 'jerk'. So far, I have been fortunate enough to continue driving the vehicle until I can find a place to pull over. Usually, I can turn the car off then back on and the error code disappears. The car will drive normally. I am now experiencing these issues 3-4 times per week. This issue is chronicled on the internet with details in different forums. This seems to be an on-going frequent issue that Dodge is aware of. From what I have researched, the dealership mechanics seem to be at a loss on how to repair and suggest different repairs that don't work. . . Unless that is their aim. In a time that people are financially struggling, these manufacturers need to repair the issues they know about.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2012

Motor mounts failed and this is the second time it has happened. Dealer replaced front mount and said there was a change in the mounts due to problems but did not change the back mount, now the back mount has failed. I think that if Dodge had to make a change in design of the mount due to problems they should have had to change both mounts when they changed the front one. This is just so they don't have to spend any more money on a car than they have to.

This is a car imported into mexico. Manufactured at USA car just started shacking, took it to the authorized dealer/service center who is now arguing it is not warranty despite car had service at 30,000 km and previous maintenances. No reason that a motor may present this kind of big failures with just 30000 km. No alarms shown on controls nor other warnings.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2011

I have a 2008 Dodge Avenger that burst into flames all of a sudden when I was headed home from work during rush hour on a city street doing between 25-30 miles an hour. There was no warning when a man started shouting for me to get out of the car. In another half an hour my kids would have been in the car. This is the third time I've heard of this happening with this Chrysler made car, yet the insurance is giving me the run-a-round. I'm sure with instructions from Chrysler. I need them to pay up, I need to be able to get to work and take my children to day care. I could have been killed cause there is obviously a defect in the engine or fuel system.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Rpms dip low and the engine revs up daily. Car dies at stop lights or when making slow turns about monthly but getting more and more frequent.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Power steering pump went bad a week after warranty.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

My 2008 Dodge Avenger first exhibited this problem in March 2011. I am the only owner and I bought it new. Especially in wet weather but occasionally in other instances, the engine will shut off but all electrical equipment- the radio, lights, dashboard and a/c will remain on. This occurs when braking at a stop light or slowing to make a turn- usually when at low speed as when pulling into a driveway. I then must put the car in park, turn off the ignition then restart the car and it always restarts immediately. I have talked to the dealership I bought the car at more than once about the issue but they say they cannot recreate the problem and so can't diagnose it, but this issue only occurs periodically in wet conditions so being able to recreate it at the dealership is unlikely. I would estimate it has happened around 15 to 20 times in the past 4 years. I have seen recalls for other Dodge and Chrysler vehicles that sound similar but none for the Avenger. I hope Dodge will issue a recall on this malfunction as it sounds like there are many other people with the same problem. I feel like this could easily cause an accident.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2010

On Saturday 07/10/10 I had driven my car and did some shopping that I needed to do. On Sunday 07/11/10 I was planning to go grocery shopping. I got in my car started the engine and tried to put the car in reverse to get out of my garage. The car would not go into reverse it was stuck in park. After several minutes of trying to get the gear shift to move out of park I gave up and went into the house. On Monday 07/12/10 I had to call a tow truck to come and pick up my car and tow it to the dealership because the car was still stuck in park. When the tow truck driver got to my house he informed me that I was the 3rd Dodge Avenger in the last week that he had to tow to a garage because the gear shift was stuck in park. When I went to pick up my car at the dealership I was talking to the mechanic and he informed me that he had two other Dodge cars in the shop that he was working on that had the same problem as mine. One was a Dodge Avenger and the other was a Dodge magnum. He said that in the last couple of months his shop has been repairing more and more Dodge vehicles with the same problem, gear shift stuck in park. He stated that there were at least 12 - 15 cars in the last month that they had to fix. I feel that someone needs to look into this of why so many Dodge cars gear shifts are getting stuck in park and that Dodge needs to possibly do a recall of this product. I have only had my car 6 months and I feel that this should not have happened.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2010

On March 5, 2010 (Friday) - approximately 5:30 p. M. , while driving on sunrise highway in long island, new york, an indicator light went on inside my 2008 Dodge Avenger, in the shape of a lightning bolt in my car. Literally 30 seconds later, and before there was time to react at all, my brakes stopped working and there was no way to stop my vehicle. I had just about made it to the exit ramp when I realized by looking in the rearview mirror that there was smoke coming from my car. As I had steered onto the exit ramp, I opened the door and saw flames shooting from the underneath part of my car. Without thinking twice I jumped from the moving vehicle (which at the time still was going at about 20 mph). I was not hurt physically but was extremely shaken up. Another traveler who had pulled up on the service road to help me, informed me that the car was on fire for at least 1/4 of a mile on the highway and that he had been attempting to flag me down. After I had escaped the vehicle, the car continued in a diagonal path toward oncoming rush hour highway traffic. The fire continue to burn and had become very bad, to the point where the entire front half of the car was ablaze. The only thing that stopped the out of control vehicle was a wire fence in the divider between the service road and main highway. The insurance company and manufacturer are currently in the process of investigating. The fire department took at least 15-20 mins to respond which caused the vehicle to become severely damaged to the point where it is now extremely difficult to ascertain a cause. My insurance only covered my car loan and now I am out money for the down payment on a new vehicle. This situation is very serious. There could have been children or elderly persons in the vehicle who could have died. Please help me investigate this issue. I consider myself lucky to still have my life and evaluate the situation as having initiated a duty to keep others safe from dangers of the same.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Avenger. The vehicle accelerated on its own twice while stopped at a red light. When he parked the vehicle in the garage, it accelerated to 45 rpm's and decrease on its own. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The failure could not be duplicated. The failure mileage was 10,000 and current mileage was 10,350. Updated 11/6/08 updated 11/10/08.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2008

While stopped at stop signs or lights the car will cut off without warning, you then have to put the car in park and re start the engine. Sometimes it flutters like it wants to cut off. This happens at least once a month sometimes more. Once you start the car it is back to normal. This could cause an accident. They first learned the throttle control. The next time they replaced the evaporator canister.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2008

I purchased a 2008 Dodge Avenger with a little 21,000 mile on it. On 07/29/2008 I pulled into the bank to make a withdrawal. In less than 20 seconds of arriving at the bank drive through I noticed smoke. The smoke appeared to be coming from the bottom of the car. I then pulled out of line to see where the smoke was coming from. After turning the vehicle off. Smoke then began to intensify and sparks shooting from under the hood. Fire then began to blaze from under the hood and then the entire front of the car was engulfed in flames. The fire department came extinguished the fire. I later search online that the car had 4 recalls dating back to 11/2007 that resulted in fire and 2 recalls after 11/2007. I did not have any knowledge of these recalls until after the fire. I purchased the car in 03/2008.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2008

2008 Dodge Avenger caught on fire, purchased on December 01 2007, on my way home from work black smoke came in through air conditioning vents, I pulled over and within minutes the total car was on fire and burned down to the metal, called 911 immediately.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2008

I have had nothing but problems with my car. When I first purchased it 2 months later my shifter got stuck I was stranded at work. After that I have had various problems from the alternator, battery, and compressor going out various times and it is not even over 100,000 miles. I looked up there were recalls on the car back in 07 and 08. The dealership says that they fixed it but I feel like it was not fixed and I had the shifter problem right when I purchased that is the only thing they said they can fix.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2008

Loss of complete power while driving. My son's new 2008 Dodge Avenger loss complete power while he was driving on the interstate today. Without warning all electrical and engine power was loss. Luckily, he was in the left lane and was able to go onto the shoulder without power steering, there were no brake lights and more than likely the air bags would not have deployed. If he was in the center lane this could have been a much more serious situation. My nine-year son was also in the car at the time. I cannot imagine a more serious situation to be in driving 70 mph and having a complete failure of engine and electrical power. When it was towed to the dealer, their first response was a component in the car's main computer. I am not worried about the repair as it is under warranty, but please warned owners of this very serious situation and have them check their car. My car was purchased at bob boast Dodge in bradenton FL.
