My passenger side headrest deployed when I was parking my car.
While I was driving to the store on 10/07/2020 around the corner of my house the headrest deployed while I was driving. No accident, no sudden stops the headrest just deployed. I did check to see if there were any recalls on it but not recalls. I did find several people had the same problems and had taken there car to the dealership to see about repairs. Everyone was told that there was no recalls and they could fix it or replace the headrest, but it would be an out of pocket expense to the customer. I feel there should have been an investigation due to the fact that here have been multiple case regarding the same situation. I would like to have an investigation started so that it can be determined that this is a manufactures defect and issue a recall so that we can get this fixed without cost. This is a danger to someone driving and the fact that it has already deployed if any of the people complaining are in an accident they have no means of protection since the headrest has already deployed.
I was vacuuming car at car wash with vehicle turned off and parked, I moved seat forward and the headrest on seat popped opened on it's own and will not close.
Driver headrest deployed when no accident occurred. Very frustrated because neck is starting to hurt when driving because the headrest is forward but 50%. This happened 1 month ago, 10/01/2020. Vehicle was parked, not occupied.
Passenger headrest exploded while parked in a parking lot no damage from other vehicles or damage from outside.
My son bought a 2013 Dodge Avenger and while he was driving the passenger headrest exploded! this is dangerous! I as a parent am afraid it will happen on the driver side while my son is driving and cause an accident! I took it to Dodge and they are trying to say it's not a recall yet and it would be 800+ to fix! this is unacceptable and I feel is a dangerous malfunctioning part that needs fixed on Dodge or Chrysler's end!!!!.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that after the vehicle had been parked, she noticed that the headrest had inadvertently deployed without impact. The contact attempted to put the headrest back together however, she noticed that the headrest was fractured and detached internally making it unable to be reattached. The contact had not contacted the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 47,083.
Both of my headrests deployed without any type of collision. The first happened a few months ago, my passenger side deployed overnight when the car was parked in the carport. The plastic clips were broken. Then on 7/15/2020, the drivers side headrest deployed at some point during the 8 hours my car was parked at work. Thankfully no one was in the seat either time because that would have resulted in injury. I have researched and found that there was a recall on the 2011-2013 Avenger models, but apparently they decided not to change anything for the 2014 model, there are tons of complaints, some with injury, most with ridiculous repair bills and all this is due to faulty cheap plastic clips that apparently just snap during normal use. We should not be responsible for this, Chrysler should be held responsible, this is a safety issue and should be recalled and replaced with a better, more substantial system.
While the car was at a complete stop (stationary) with no other cars around, the headrest on the drivers side snapped open jerking the drivers head forward.
Passenger reactive headrest deployed on its own due to weak and faulty plastic. The pin pulled through the plastic on its own allowing the headrest to deploy, while the pin was still locked down. Luckily it happened when opening car door, if on drivers side while driving would cause an accident.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, there was an abnormal sound inside the vehicle. The contact pulled over and inspected the vehicle. The contact stated that the passenger occupant restraint controller was shifted forward and was unable to reset the head rest. The vehicle was taken to rick hendrick Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram located at (1468 savannah highway, charleston, SC 29407, (843) 352-6931) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the occupant restraint controller needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 17v640000 (seats, air bags) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000.
I was moving my seat back and the headrest popped out. The clips inside broke and it won't go back into place. This could've happened while I was driving, which is a major safety issue.
While driving headrest deployed found other incidents on youtube like this. There is a lawsuit against Dodge/Chrysler about this issue. There needs too be a recall on this issue immediately!! I would rather have a regular headrest that doesn't deploy. Please issue a recall!.
On 3/9/2020 at approximately 4:30 pm while driving south on interstate 55 just south of southaven mississippi when the passenger side headrest deployed springing the head rest forward with considerable force. My wife was sitting in the passenger seat at the time and was struck by the headrest in the head and complained that it hit her head so hard that it hurt. We were not involved in an accident at the time and were traveling at the posted speed limit. I had not had to break hard or anything. The headrest just came apart. After some research I see this is suppose to be a safety feature that would occur in an accident. There was no accident. After arriving home I noticed a metal pin in the bottom of the seat rest and broke plastic in the location where the pin should be located. Now I am concerned that the drivers seat may do the same thing and cause an accident. I also now have the issue of a costly repair for a defective design flaw.
While driving my car approximately around 15mph on a smooth road I heard a disruptive noise and saw that my passenger had been hit by the active head rest which was deployed although we were not in an accident. Upon further investigation I noticed the cheap plastic that holds the pin in place inside the head rest had been broken which caused the active headrest to unexpectedly deploy.
The headrest on the driver seat snapped and hit my head while I was driving. I currently have back neck pain, feels like a pressure. It was unexpected. Is there anything I can do ? I am going to my doctor this week, but anyway of fixing?.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the frontal passenger's seat headrest deployed without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed to check for recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not subjected to a recall. The vehicle was taken to ferman Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram wesley chapel (24314 FL-54, lutz, FL 33559) and the contact was provided an estimate for the repair of the vehicle. The contact declined the repair. Additionally, the driver's side headrest deployed while parked in the driveway. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 17v640000 (seats, air bags) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
While car was parked in parking lot, passenger head rest "popped" open. It is still split open and the dealer wants $922. 14 to replace this obviously defective part #: 1us39dx9aa. There was no collision. Luckily no one was sitting in the seat at the time, but it could have caused a serious injury. I'm concerned it will now happen with the driver's side headrest while I'm driving, potentially causing a serious accident.
Driving down the road the headrest snapped hitting me in the head. Almost made me crash. You are lucky I didn't cause I would have sued your ass.
While driving down interstate 75 s, traveling @70 mph the driver side headrest detached from the frame.
While driving down interstate 75 s @70 mph driver side headrest detached from the back. Making it very difficult and dangerous to drive. Purchased brand new off the lot in 2014. No accidents with the car past or recent. No bumper damage. Pulled over and could not get the front to reset back into the frame. Called the dealership, because the VIN is out of the range of a previous recall Dodge won't fix it. We haven't gotten a quote yet for what out of pocket expense will be.
On the evening of 10/05/2019, while traveling straight at a steady 25-30 mph, the passenger headrest felt like it exploded. The passenger's head was suddenly and violently pushed forward. It appears from internet research that this is a failure of the "active head restraint" system.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Dodge Avenger. While driving 10 mph, the passenger side head restraint popped opened and struck the occupant in the head without warning. There were no warning indicators illuminat or injuries. The contact called louisville Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (5311 dixie hwy, louisville, ky 40216, (502) 410-2413), but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
The headrests in my Dodge Avenger have popped forward several times. Sometimes they would pop forward merely from the heat, as I live in a very hot area. I had the orc replaced as part of safety recall s61, however the vehicles safety is reduced because the headrests will not stay locked in due to broken plastic locks which are supposed to hold it back. Apparently the headrests are not covered under the recall as it currently stands. The car is uncomfortable to drive, and in the case of an accident, the headrests will not be able to deploy since they are now permanently deployed. I thought the headrests were already covered by the previous recall, which is why I am filing now.
While sitting parked at a traffic light the active head restraint popped out. I spoke with someone about it at my local Dodge dealership on how to retract it and they pointed out that the bracket had broken and the head rest needed to be replaced.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Dodge Avenger. While driving at any speed, the front driver's side headrest beeped and the headrest indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to dallas Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram (214-327-9361, located at 11550 lyndon b johnson fwy, dallas, TX 75238) where it was diagnosed that the driver's side headrest sensor was faulty and the headrest needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
My daughter and her friend was driving on regular city roadway, going about 35-40 mph, when the passenger headrest deployed. They were not in an accident or hit anything on the road, the headrest deployed unexpectedly.
