37 Steering problem of the 2012 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 08/17/2015

Bought a brand new 2012 Avenger se with a 3. 6l. The car has shaken violently at speeds above 45 mph. It has been to the dealer under warranty 6 times for the issue, and no faults we're found. The car is past it's warranty, and the dealer now wants an arm and a leg to diagnose the issue. The vibration is only getting worse and worse. The front suspension has been checked numerous times, and everything seems fine, the rear struts we're just replaced, which helped the vibration under 60 mph, however it still vibrates. Car went to the dealer with 8000 miles on it due to passenger side window issues, where the dealer once again found nothing wrong. Left the dealership, and the check engine light came on for an O2 sensor. The wires had been pinched so bad, that it needed to be replaced as well. We have been through 6 sets of tires in 4 years. Car currently has 90,000 miles on it, and vibration gets worse every day.

Could not use cruise control then air bag light came on and would not go off then it was hard to turn the steering wheel took it to my mechanic he found it to be the clock spring he tells me he's not sure if I have a accident the air bags are going to work and I could end up not being able to turn left or right in my vehicle the estimate is for 1000. 00 I don't have that. If its that serious there should be a recall or investigation into this problem.

Failure Date: 12/23/2014

I was driving from arkansas to texas and was approximately ten miles from my destination when the car pulled to the right on a narrow two lane hiway hitting the approximately one foot tall concrete bride side. It was misting rain and the car kept pulling right and then started to go into a skid. I tried to steer to stop skidding and spun around into the ditch and rolled. Only the passenger side curtain air bags and the passenger seat airbag deployed. No airbags deployed on the driver side or from the dash or sterring wheel. The vehicle sustained major damage to the front, sides and top. There had been prior warranty repair to the driver seat airbag by orr Dodge of searcy because the airbag system malfunction warning light had come on in the vehicle.

43 Steering problem of the 2014 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 10/31/2014

I was driving on the beltway and the car just stalled. I was doing 70 mph at the time. The car randomly stalls/won't crank and it has less than 4000 miles on it. I just purchased the car and have been back and forth to the dealership and they will not help me. It shuts off with no warning and all the gauges get stuck. I am afraid for my life and I can't get in touch with the manufacturer. Because I have to get on the highway to go to work I am afraid it is going to happen when I don't have a way to get to an emergency lane and it is going to cause a fatality. No one will tell me where to turn and this is my only mode of transportation.

44 Steering problem of the 2014 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 06/14/2014

This has been going on now for over a 1 year. My car engine just shuts off for no reason. I have taken it in had it towed in and multi Dodge dealership mechanics looks at it. Nobody can figure out why it does it. They have duplicated the problem lots of times but don't know why it happens. Every mechanic refuses to document in the systems that this is happening because they can't fix the problem but I make them all right on my copy of the service paperwork that they did duplicate it and what they did to protect me. The only thing they have every change is the erg valve but it still happens to this day. This is a huge safety issue.

45 Steering problem of the 2013 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 06/06/2014

The first time I was coming down hwy 17 from wilmington when the right front tie exploded and also messed up the rim. Total cost tp me 578. 00. The second time I was coming from murrell inlet, SC and the same tire blew out again. Total cost 134. 00. I had took my car in to get the second tire fixed and told the service advisor that the front end had a poping noise and to have someone drive the car to see what was going on. I picked the car up on 6/3/2014 and asked if anyone had drove it for the noise. Come to find out nobody test drove it after it sat out at addys for 7 days. The whole front rack needs to be replaced. It now been 10 days and my car is still at addys waiting on parts. Looks like to me someone should have found this problem while it was sitting at addys for 7 days. Service mgr was a real asshole and was yelling in my sister face.

When I go to brake from speeds of 25 mph and up, the car starts shaking violently. I have to press the brake pedal slowly and holds the steering wheel stronger to counter the shaking and not lose control of the vehicle. This is not always possible to do when braking. The faster the vehicle is going, the worse it shake swhen applying the brakes. I have taken it to the dealership and several other car places to have the brakes checked and they cannot find the problem. They've changed pads, rotors, etc. On multiple occasions in a short period of time and the problem remains. This is very dangerous and there seems to be no fix.

52 Steering problem of the 2013 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

From date of purchase brand new off the lot 2013 Dodge Avenger 3. 6l blacktop edition. Within a few days I started noticing the car would pull to the right. I took it back to the dealership to have the alignment looked at and fixed and they said they re aligned everything and should be fine. After a week I noticed it started to pull to the right again. At that point I took it into a different shop where they actually told me that they can't re align the car based on the fact that how the cars suspension was manufactured and design is faulty to where the alignment will never be able to be corrected and there's nothing they can do. I am military and have moved 2 times since the purchase and have takin the car to several shops and have been told the same. That the alignment is as best as it can get and will always pull to the right based on the design and how it came from the factory. I've had the car for 3 yrs now and have had to buy brand new tires every year while rotating and balancing my tires every 3 months. This is a serious defect and Dodge will not take ownership of the fault and has not provided any help in coming up with a solution to fix the suspensions alignment always being off.

53 Steering problem of the 2010 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 08/26/2013

I just began having this problem and I am very concerned. There is not a recall yet, however I am hoping with taking the time to report my concerns and problems there will soon be a recall. After about 45 minutes to an hr of driving my vehicle there becomes a clunking noise on the left front end of my car. You can feel the noise/malfunction in the left lower part of the steering wheel while driving. Steering feels shaky and unstable. My vehicle is maintained monthly at the same place each month. The longer you drive the louder the clunking sound. After, realizing this problem was not going away and could become very serious I took it to my local Dodge dealership and was told that there is not a recall issued for this problem and it would cost me about $600. 00 d/t also telling me warranty would not cover it. After, extensive research I have learned that Chrysler themselves have placed a concern in regards to this problem, however are not issuing a recall for this problem and that this is only a problem with vehicles manufactured before 7/2010 which mine was manufactured 8/2010 and I am having this current problem. I am very scared that if this does not get recalled and fixed there are going to be bigger problems than just complaints. I have read several incident reports placed with NHTSA with the same exact problems. With that said why is there nothing being done about this and why should I pay $600+ to get this fixed when this is clearly a Chrysler/Dodge issue and conveniently warranty will not cover this particular malfunction. I have 2 young children and if something happens to us while driving my car after numerous reports have been placed there will be problems bigger than a recall. I am very disappointed in Chrysler/Dodge and not sure that I would buy another Dodge vehicle after this.

54 Steering problem of the 2011 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 08/23/2013

I bought this car brand new off the lot and have owned it for 2 years. The back of the car sways in the back, which I did not notice this at first being the driver, but passengers did. As time went on it got worse and I began noticing it in the front. The back end sways anytime you hit a bump and in the winter the back end is all over the place. I've been driving in winter weather for 10 years now and never had so much anxiety until driving this car. The back end makes hollow clicking noises from time to time like something is going to just "pop off". The steering wheel pulls to the right (even after all alignments, tires checked). When you attempt to push on the gas after being stopped the car stalls a great deal. The left rear suspension has been replaced already, the sway bar tightened, camber bushings done and there are still issues with the above but the dealer states "nothing is wrong". I have had my car in the dealership numerous of times for all of this not to mention the bubbling of the paint on the hood, the trunk leaking water and a few recalls. I plan on trading this car in ASAP and will not be purchasing another Dodge. I spent way too much money on a car to have this many issues with barely 20,000 miles on it.

55 Steering problem of the 2012 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 06/24/2013

In late June got a flat tire. When I went to put on the spare noticed both rear tires had worn thru the steel on the inside shoulder. Took to a local dealership and they told me must be the alignment. Car was just under the 1 year anniversary date but just over the mileage for the warranty. I had to pay for an alignment and new tires. Alignment showed three of the wheels in spec and the fourth . 03 degrees out of spec which the dealer said wasn't enough out to cause that bad of wear on the tires. Contacted Chrysler but no help. Went to oregon in November and got just north of where I was going and stopped for a break and noticed both rear tires were wearing on the inside shoulders like before. Took to dealership another alignment and set of tires that I had to pay for. Alignment was out and had to have camber kits installed to get alignment fixed. Once again no help from Chrysler yet. On my way home from oregon went thru a snow storm, not a lot of snow mostly blowing snow across road. Couldn't go over 32 mph because the rear of the car was swaying so bad. Could hardly keep car on road. Took in to local dealership and they said they need to do another alignment at my cost. Contacted Chrysler once again no help. First set of tires 13400 miles, second set 21400 miles now on third. Waiting for 12/9/13 to get car into shop.

56 Steering problem of the 2014 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

When driving the car it sways side to side and also kicks to the right when going over railroad tracks at approx. 15 mph. I have to drive with both hands firmly on the wheel so that it does not pull one way or the other.

57 Steering problem of the 2013 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 05/14/2013

While driving at a low speed I put my foot on the gas to speed up and it was as though my car was not running at all. Nothing happened. I coasted to the end of the road and at the stop sign I hit the gas only to get chugging, spitting and sputtering sounds as the car tried to go. I was able to go a approx 1/4 of a mile and pulled into a parking area, shut the car off and waited a few minutes. The car seemed fine although a few miles down the road when I went to pass a vehicle there was absolutely no power and the car smelled as though something was burning. I had just fueled the car up before the incident. A week later, I filled my car up and although I didn't stall I had the same situation with putting my foot on the gas to pass a vehicle and not getting any power. I had the pedal to the floor and it was almost like the car was bogged down in the mud. Very alarming for a new car. Also when passing a vehicle and giving it the gas not only does the front end of this car lift up it is almost as though it fishtails like on ice in the front end. Very scary and hard to control the steering while passing.

58 Steering problem of the 2012 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 12/27/2012

I was on my way to work and cautiously preceded around the curvy road with my steering wheel held to the right. When I ended the curve and tried to turn my steering wheel back too the right it wouldn't turn back to the left. This caused me to crash head on into a tree. The air bags were deployed.

59 Steering problem of the 2009 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 11/21/2012

I bought the car used at franklin sussex Dodge in franklin,NJ with 70000 miles and two days after I noticed these problems. I lose control at highway speeds when hitting bumps or on turns. The rear of car sways and feels like a rocking boat and I hold on for dear life. I have had it aligned and it uses up new tires at 20000 miles in rear on inside. There needs to be a recall before someone gets killed to correct rear suspension.

60 Steering problem of the 2011 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 10/22/2012

Front end makes a popping noise from the passenger side on uneven terrain at all speeds. Dealer couldn't find anything and I had the first tire rotation at this time. We took our first road trip (approx 1700 miles round trip) and noticed vibration on trip. Found tire dust covering rear of car and rear fender wells. The rear tires had almost completely worn through the innermost tread. Dealer performed an alignment check, said front was slightly out and corrected it. Left front was -. 7 camber and right front was -. 7. At 1500 miles the dealer finally agreed to replace the tires through the good year prorated warranty, claiming the ware problem was a tire issue. We are now at 18000 miles with no signs of excessive tire wear. Popping noise in front in seems to be getting worse, dealer once stated they tightened the cradle bolts. It had no effect. We again have vibration at highway speed and the rear end wobbles back and forth on uneven terrain.

61 Steering problem of the 2008 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 01/12/2012

I was driving my 2008 Dodge Avenger to work on 01/12/12. It was raining that morning. I attempted to merge to my right when suddenly my windshield wipers stopped and my steering wheel began to turn 360 degrees however my tires were not moving. I banged in the median. My airbags did not deploy. I was unconscious and the next thing I remember is someone cutting my drivers door off to get me out. I contacted Dodge and they informed me that this was normal wear and tear of a vehicle. I do not understand how? I have not been able to return to work due to my injuries and Dodge could careless. I could have lost my life that day. . . . Thank god I didn't. I need to know what to do next?.
