1 Power Train problem of the 2007 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 09/29/2025

I was informed on 09/29/2025 by my Chrysler dealer that a second critical component of my 2007 Caliber frame had rusted to the point that it broke. The first critical component was reported in my complaint tracking number 11459461 submitted on 04/03/2022. The component in that filing was the engine pan that supported the engine. On this latest failure, I was told the same thing by the shop manager: "if you hit a bump while driving this vehicle you could lose your back wheels". In the first incident, the engine could have fallen out of my vehicle. He was not going to let me drive it home. Then he changed his mind and told me it was "at my discretion". I did drive it home (4. 5 miles) with no problem. He told me he was going to try and find a new or used part to fix the issue. He made it clear that he was not hopeful of finding one. This is twice now that my life and the lives of any drivers on the road at the same time were placed in danger from excessive rusting problems. I submitted files in the first incident showing that Chrysler was aware of the issue. A copy of the corporate service bulletin was attached. To my knowledge nothing was ever done. Is anything going to be done this time?.

7 Power Train problem of the 2009 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 11/13/2020

The problem initially occurred in early November of 2020 when the vehicle would unpredictably stall at a stop sign or traffic light and would not immediately start for a couple minutes. After this short wait of 1 to 3 minutes it was possible to restart the car and move forward normally and the car could be driven without stalling for 2 or 3 miles when it would stall again and the engine would not start again for 2 to 3 minutes. In traffic situations this was unsafe to not be able to move the vehicle to a safe distance from heavy traffic. Finally, the problem started to occur after the vehicle was supposedly repaired and not driven for 2 -3 days and when it an attempt to start the car it would idle for 3-5 seconds and sound like it was choking before dying, and this was happening 2 weeks after it had been "repaired" by the Dodge dealer. This problem has repeatedly occurred over the two years since the original incident and has been to a Dodge dealership for unsuccessful repairs 4 different times; 11/20; 04/22 &05/22 and it is still at the dealership being inoperable. Each time the car functioned for a few miles and then broke down again. The dealer informs us that the parts that would most likely repair the car are no longer made by Dodge and the car cannot be fixed. Interestingly enough this model vehicle has had a variety of recalls starting in 2007 but never for the particular control modules that are no longer available which are the throttle control & power train control modules, which the dealer thinks might possibly be a fix but even that is not a sure thing. The Dodge dealer that worked on the vehicle presumably would have informed me about this situation at least before they had the vehicle in for now the 4th time in 3 years with the same problem with no solution. Up to the time of these breakdowns the vehicle was well maintained and taken care of and still has low mileage of just over 69,000 miles. Is the Dodge corporation at least partially liable?.

Transmission constantly over heats dispite having the fluids flushed and changed. The inside light flash like they are going out and the transmission whines and whines at 60 to 70 mph. I've had this car since 2013 and have had 3 recalls. These vehicles seem to be extremely unsafe and I'm not sure why they're still on the streets. All of this happens while driving anywhere.

21 Power Train problem of the 2008 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 06/10/2019

Left lower control arm and upper cv shaft separated from transmission while entering an on ramp, causing loss of steering and driveability. Could have been deadly had the speed been faster and any closer to the overpass barrier. I had to be towed from the side of the on ramp with the police waiving people around. I couldn't even exit my drivers door due to no traffic clearance. I was essentially a sitting duck on the shoulder of an on ramp, just a few feet shy of the overpass of the highway I had just exited to enter another highway.

22 Power Train problem of the 2009 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 05/25/2019

The recall u have that u say has not effected mine has. I've already put a new engine in the car and a gas tank, all the lines and now the car is still shutting off/down on its own. The recall is exactly wat the mechanic says needs done and he doesn't have the equipment to do the repair. No advanced read out machinery to change or reprogram. I need this recall on mine. There's no way u got every one that was recalled. Like I said jeff bradley is the mechanic that's fine all the work the new motor the gas tank and lines, and now it's still shutting down. There is no dash lights that cone n at all.

23 Power Train problem of the 2012 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 05/06/2019

I recently bought this car from northtown Dodge in buffalo NY in Jan of 2019. As the weather got warmer my transmission overheated lite comes on. I can't drive more than 50 miles tops with out it over heating. I'm the second owner. I am financing this car and can only drive it locally. I've also read that there is a lifetime warranty for the powertrain only if your the original owner. The car only had 64000 miles on it and it has 69771. So please help me with this issue I am a disabled veteran and this car is my only means of transportation.

24 Power Train problem of the 2011 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 03/20/2019

My Dodge Caliber 2011 is junk. The cvt transmission is shot, little over 115000. They say the transmission cannot be worked on only replaced. Driving down the highway, my car quickly decelerated to a point I almost got rear ended. Then the car could not go above 3000 rpm. Read in many forums about people having the same issue yet Dodge will not help at all. Funny the same transmission is put in Nissan cars and they extended the warranty on the transmissions and is looking for a fix. I'll never buy another Dodge product again. If I would have been hit, Dodge would be getting a lawsuit.

25 Power Train problem of the 2009 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 03/11/2019

My vehicle for my year has a recall for the transmission power control module, I called to get it sorted out and everyone tells me my specific VIN does not match any recalls, ironically my check gone light has come on for this exact reason. I was driving and from what I experienced the car did shut off and I had to restart it on the side of the road.

26 Power Train problem of the 2009 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

I bought my car about a week ago with 100,000 miles on it and the day tree we brought it home when we are driving it will start to go back and forth, like stall/ chug for a split second then go back while in motion, it doesn't matter how slow or fast I'm going it does it whenever I am driving. I can't wait for it to just die and get it fixed I need this fixed now and I can now see after researching there are many 2009 Dodge Calibers on recall for this issue but mine isn't and I'm confused as to why and need this to be fixed ASAP.

27 Power Train problem of the 2011 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 11/24/2018

I got my oil change done at 67,000 miles and since then my car jerks and feels weird when I drive it. I'm worried that it may stall on me when driving on the highway or city and that's dangerous for my kids and others on the road. Please investigate the transmission as it's made by Nissan and Nissan has a lot of problems with their cvts.

28 Power Train problem of the 2009 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 09/11/2018

Transmission overheats quickly and car loses power. Aamco has replaced it numerous times. Added external transmission cooler. Problem persists. Suspension is insufficient for this car.

29 Power Train problem of the 2011 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 05/23/2018

As I am on the highway and traveling at a speed of 70 to 75 the car suddenly start loosing speed to the point I need to put my blink and stop in the side of the rood, then I have to turn it of and turn it back on and start heading, this happens regularly. On a trip of a distance of 90 miles I have to do that like 3 times. Its dangerous because of the vehicles behind me that are traveling at that same speed can come and crash behind me.

30 Power Train problem of the 2007 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 02/14/2018

Wont accelerate properly. Wont go go over 30 mph sometimes. No power.

31 Power Train problem of the 2007 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 09/03/2017

"takata recall" while driving the 2007 Dodge Caliber, it suddenly jerks and down shifts and rpms seem to sky rocket, the lightning bolt symbol illuminates and it drops speed and will not accelerate over 30 mph max, it tends to do this on hills or after you have to brake slightly for any reason and then accelerate again to maintain speed or to get up a hill. No matter how much you take it easy on the acceleration or how hard you push it, it doesn't help after it goes into this slow mode. The only way to get the vehicle to operate normal again is to pull off the road, put it in park, turn it off and then wait and restart it again, some times it has taken up to 5 times or trying to restart it before it finally restarts. This vehicle carries children in it every day, and it has became very unsafe to operate, having a great chance of being rearended or hit by another vehicle in the side due to loss of power unexpectedly.

32 Power Train problem of the 2008 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 07/14/2017

Losing power and all idiot lights flashing on highway or driving around the city very dangerous can not go over 45 on highway.

33 Power Train problem of the 2007 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 07/13/2017

While driving auto stops being able to accelerate. Have to coast to side and stop. Throttle control light comes on. Usually after little while can turn back on and go. I also have Chrysler sebring 2008 tjat does same thing even after. Multiple trips to Dodge service. Read where this is a biv problem MA NY are having but Dodge/Chrysler still dokng nothing to repair. Dangerous I was on freeway going 65 mp and zlmost hit NY four cars. Happens more at fast speeds.

34 Power Train problem of the 2011 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 06/21/2017

We bought the car new in 2011, since then every summer when we travel more than 30 miles on the hwy when its over 110 degrees out the transmission light goes on and car goes into limp mode (cvt transmission). I have been to dealer multiple times for this and advised that Dodge knows and that I am to pull over and let it cool down. We live in lake havasu city, az where its over 110 degree's 3 or more months of the year. My wife was coming back from road trip on I-40 on June 21 and car went into limp mode and wouldn't go 10mph. She had to sit on side road for 30min for trans to cool before would let her resume. This is a safety issue leaving motorists stuck in 110+ degree weather on side of the road. I am still under factory warranty took it back into Dodge and they did full check on trans said its fine. I even had trans flushed before the trip. I understand Nissan has same issues with the cvt transmission and yet both company's continue to use these transmissions knowing the problem.
