Air Bag Light On problems of the 1996 Dodge Caravan - part 2

Airbag light remains illuminated on dashboard, also horn and cruise control work intermittently. Dealer has been contacted.

While driving airbag light illuminated, causing cruise control and horn to malfunction. Possibly a clockspring failure.

The norn does not work/ cruise control does not work, and air bag light stays on, parking brake light turns on every time you turn the wheel to the left! windshield wipers come on and off when they please, we have had the transmission replaced at 68,000 miles, we were told that we cannot pass inspection at our military base overseas until this safety feature is fixed!.

Consumer was traveling on highway and noticed a burning smell. Airbag light came on dashboard. There was no horn, and a small fire started in the back of panel. Dealership was aware of problem.

01 007; air bag clockspring: air bag light remains on while driving, and horn/ cruise control are non operational. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified.

Air bag light is always on, at first light would come on and off. Also, cruise control will not work. Consumer states that the horn is inoperative, dealer stated clock spring needed replaced.

Clockspring failure - airbag light illuminated, horn inoperable. Repaired at dealer ~$260. Original part is available for NHTSA use if desired.

1. Airbag light stays on, horn quit working. We were told this is the clock spring failure. 2. Engine check light on - computer code indicates this is a coil pack failure. 3. Transmission replaced at 55,000 mi. 4. Windshield wipers come on for no reason 5. A/c freon charge at 98,000 6. Water pump failure at 98,000.

Air bag light came on, then several hours later went off. 3 days later the light came on again. Then became intermitent for a few weeks, sometimes it goes off, then comes back on in a few minutes. Now the light stays on more than 95% of the time. At first, dealer recommended waiting until the light was on and then driving by the dealer for them to check out. We haven't had the dealer check it out yet.

Clock spring failure causes horn and cruise control to stop working and lights airbag light. This is a serious safety issue. Same problem as ea01007. Manufacturer is fully aware of the problem, but refuses to cover the repair costs.

Clockspring in steering column failed and my horn and cruise control failed and my airbag light came on. I had the clockspring replaced at a cost of $330. 28.

Air bag light has come on and stayed on during normal operation of vehicle. Dealership informed consumer that the clock spring was defective. *note, cruise control and horn also failed to function.

Abs braking system light airbag light are on dashboard. Also, horn doesn't work. Dealership is aware of problems. Dealer replaced clock spring. Starter failed and was replaced.

When turning on the vehicle, I noticed the air bag light did not go off. The next day I saw an article in the paper about the problem and upon checking the horn and cruise control, discovered they did not work either. I took the article to the dealer but they said the item was not under recall and would cost $210 to repair. I'll wait for you to issue the recall!.

Ea 01 007; air bag clock spring: air bag light stayed on, and horn assembly did not operate. Dealer was notified. Head gasket and time chain replaced due to tremendous oil loss, engine light is now illuminated, vehicle's temperature gauge went up and vehicle locked up. Windshield wipers come on by themselves. Sliding door latch inoperable.

Airbag light would stay on. Dealer had advised that clock spring would have to be replaced. Vehicle has not been repaired. Manufacturer does not have any parts in stock. At this time consumer is unable to drive vehicle.

Air bag light stayed on after starting vehicle up and driving. Also, horn and cruise control did not work properly when put to use. Clockspring failure.

Ea-01-007; consumer noticed air bag light illuminated on dash, horn and cruise control were inoperable. Also, windshield wipers worked intermittently. Consumer has contacted dealer , dealer noticed the clock spring broke, causing problems.

Horn failed to work, airbag light came on and left directional did not retract. Dealer diagnosed as clock spring failure and charged 465. 87 to fix. Now, I read in paper that this assembly has failed in numerous Caravans from 1996 to 2000. Please advise if this is going to be a recall and if I can be compensated for my expenditures. In retrospect, it seemed as if the dealer knew exactly what problem I had and what needed to be done when I made the appointment; in other words, mine was not the first problem like this that they saw. While driving airbag light would come on and horn stopped working. Consumer felt this may be a problem with clock spring. Dealer replaced clock spring.

Clockspring failed also disabling the horn and the cruise control. After contacting the dealer about the airbag light being on and describing the symptoms I was told it was going to be the clockspring. The service department acknowledged this is a common failure in the Caravan but refused to warrant it as veh out of manufacturers warranty. Contacted daimler-Chrysler customer service and they acknowledged the problem is widespread but no recall issued and they are unwilling to reimburse me at this time.

Had started vehcle when air bag light remained on and failed to go off. Horn failed to work as well as cruise control when needed. Possible clockspring failure.

Air bag light stayed on. Shortly after that horn and cruise control stopped working. Dealer wanted to fix vehicle and charge counsumer $300.
