Air Bag Light On problems of the 1998 Dodge Caravan

Airbag light on no turn signals and no reverse lights due to failed airbag clockspring.

The indicator lamp air bag is on continuously. I drive a vehicle all the time, and my trip 50% highway and 50% city.

I purchased a used 1998 Dodge Caravan van at westside Dodge 1672 cassat Ave jacksonville FL 32210 and was told by the salesman that the airbag light was suppose to stay lit and the a/c lights were supposed to be blinking. When I found the owners manual the day after I purchased the van I read that the`airbag light is suppose to go off in 8 seconds after the car is started and I also read that when the a/c lights are flashing the a/c needs to be serviced. I advised the salesman and was told to bring the van back to the dealership when I did they tried to charge me $119. 00 to check the airbag and $49. 95 to check the airconditioning. I refused to sign any consent and tried to speak with the used car sales manager and was told "we only sell junk cars to the public as a courtesy", and than he hung up on me. I also found another complaint from another customer of this dealership who bought a new car and had the same exact air bag problem and to this date it has not been resolved. Please help me get this resolved, I am driving a vehicle that is unsafe to drive and has no air conditioning.

This vehicle has multiply problems. Consumer noticed that the air bag light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. When pressing the horn it failed to come on its own. Also, smoke was coming from the steering column. The smoke extinguished itself out. No injuries reported. Hazard lights failed to come on. Drove vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the horn assembly and air bags were separated problems, and the steering column was okay. No determination on the hazard lights was made. Consumer informed the mechanic that this problem occurred on numerous occasions, and had not been resolved.

Due to the failure of the clock spring assembly. The horn became inoperable and the air bag light illuminate on the the dash board. Although the consumer's vehicle exhibited symptoms of recall 02v-293000, the vehicle was not included due to VIN. The consumer paid to have the clockspring replaced.

Air bag light was on, the horn did not work, and cruise control malfunctioned. Recall 02v950000 concerning clock spring failure was issued.

On several occasions my 1998 Dodge Caravan would stall when starting up, it has a reoccuring airbag light, cruise control misfunctioning and horn stalling issues. I currently had to take it to chyristler for repairs. I was told from the manufacturer that there was a recall on the Dodge Caravan 1996-1998 re:clockspring. My veh. Was not listed with this recall and I'm concerned that I am experiencing the same problems as the Dodge Caravans that have been recalled. The air bag light appear on the dashboard and remain on. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic replaced the clockspring.

While driving air bag light suddenly illuminated on the dashboard. When this occurred it rendered the horn and cruise control inoperative. Recall 02v290000 was issued for the air bag, but this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.

While driving consumer lost the horn, cruise control, and air bag light appeared on the dashboard. Dealer determined clock spring failure.

My 1998 Dodge Caravan has a failed clockspring, which has caused the airbag light to stay on and the horn and cruise control to not work. I understand that my van is not in the original recall for the clockspring because of the manufacture date, which is to late. The bill for the repairs is approx $210. 00 (currently at the dealship). Please include all 1998 Caravans in the recall.

Emergency brakes inoperable, airbag light turns on, horn does not work, hard time removing key from ignition and I can go from "p" to "r" or "d" without pressing on the brakes (even if there is no key in the ignition).

At any speed air bag light stays on. Also, horn is inoperable, and cruise control does not work. There is recall 02v293000 concerning clock spring failure. However, this vehicle is not included in the recall due to VIN.

Consumer pressed on the horn and the air bag light illuminated on the dashboard. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer for analysis. The mechanic noticed that the clockspring needed to be replaced.

Consumer pressed the horn there was no sound. Airbag light was on while driving. Took vehicle to the dealer for analysis, and mechanic noticed that the clockspring needed to be replaced due to a worn part. The consumer noticed that the air bag light flickered off and on intermittently then eventually remained on whenever the vehicle was operated. At the same time the horn also failed. The consumer contacted the dealer. The dealer was sure that the problem was with the clockspring but the technician was going to charge the consumer to run the test. The clockspring was recall for the 1996-2000 minivans but not the 1998's. The consumer has not had the vehicle repaired because she believes it should be recall and because she cannot afford the repair.

The consumer noticed the horn on the vehicle was inoperative. The mechanic stated it was due to a faulty clock spring. There was a recall regarding the issue, however the vehicle identification number was not included. The air bag light had come on.

The air bag light illuminated, which caused the horn and cruise control to be inoperative. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated the drivers side frontal air bag had to be repaired. . Also the transmission down shifted hard.

While driving, airbag light stays on, and it can be useless in the event of a crash. Cause unknown. Dealer notified. A faulty coil in the steering wheel caused the air bag light to stay on and the cruise control to fail.

Airbag light comes on intermittently. Dealer determined clockspring assembly needed to be replaced. Consumer states that both dealer and daimler Chrysler refused to replace the part as a warranty item. (customer care at daimler Chrysler had become very belligerant and abusive over the phone) please see reverse side for a continuance of abuse. Consumer is fearing the safety of his family. Wife is main driver, and feels that he should be reimbursed for the expense of the defective part. (after being overcharged for the repair despite having a verbal quote by the service advisor) appel Dodge has failed to return consumers calls to settle the discrepancy in payment. The van is showing no indication of airbag/clockspring failure.

Air bag light comes on and horn is not working, leading consumer to believe that clock spring material was defective when contacting dealer. Dealer noted the same problem.

Ea 01 007/air bag clockspring: air bag light would remain on while driving, and horn/cruise control are inoperative. Dealer contacted.

While traveling 30-40mph air bag light would flash on/off. This has happened for a few weeks. It finally remained on, and horn along with cruise control failed to work. Dealership replaced wires and a sticky clockspring unit.

Air bag light on instrument panel flickers on and off intermittently. Also, horn has failed to operate during operation of vehicle. Dealership has yet to examine vehicle for this problem. Please provide any additional information / documentation.

Horn would not blow, and airbag light is on. Took to dealer, dealer stated vehicle needed a clock spring. Please provide any further information.

Vehicle was set on cruise control at 70-72mph. Consumer made rest stop/ got back on road resuming cruise control,and it quit working. Horn would not work either. A day in a half before, airbag light just stayed on. Consumer hasn't contacted dealer.

While driving tried to use horn and there was no response. Air bag light illuminated and did not go off. Also, cruise control did not work. Manufacturer and dealer have been notified.

At least a year ago, my airbag light came on and has stayed on. Approximately the same time, I began having problems with my criuse control. In addition, my horn has quit functioning. I contacted a dealership, and they stated it sounded like the airbag clockspring had gone bad. The part alone was estimated to cost $250. I recently checked the NHTSA site, as see that my van is not the only one with these same problems.
