20 problems related to air bag have been reported for the 1998 Dodge Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Clock spring went out with 113,000 on vehicle. Was replaced by dealer at no charge in about an hours time.
Nhtsa recall 04v480000 on the air bag clockspring. After having the clockspring assembly replaced, the cruise control light appeared on the dashboard. The cruise control was inoperative. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The cause has not been determined at this time. Please provide further details.
Consumer stated that Dodge will not repair the vehicle which was under recall 04v480000. Vehicle had over 70,000 miles on it. Consumer believed that vehicle should be repaired as stated for the ones with less than 70, 000 miles. Consumer contacted the manufacturer, and was told that he would have to pay to have the vehicle repaired.
The consumer took the vehicle in for the recall on the clock spring. However, when he arrived he was told the part was not available. The consumer called the day before and was told that the part was in stock.
Nhts arecall 02-v-293-000: on certain Mini vans clockspring assembly may have been winded incorrectly during vehicle assembly process. Consumer has the same problem including horn malfunction. However this vehicle was not recalled due to the VIN.
Chrysler not honoring clockspring warrenty for m 1998 Dodge Chrysler minivan.
The clock spring assembly was replaced.
The clock spring failed prior to recall notification. The consumer requested reimbursement for the repairs but was denied because all the faulty components were not replaced/repaired at the same time.
Problem is with a component called a "clock spring connector". It controls not only the air bag deployment system but also controls the cruise control and horn operation. I have been out on the internet and noticed that this is a common problem with all Dodge Caravans dated from 1994-2000. I have also spoke with numerous repair shops stating that they see this problem at least 2-3 times a week. Thank you for you time and consideration to this matter.
Clockspring has failed rendering the airbags and horn unusable. This is a safety hazard and other year Dodge Caravan minivans have been recalled. My dealer said that my year minivan is not part of those recalled. I believe this safety component failure needs to be recalled by the manufacturer and replaced.
Aibag light illuminates. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer indicated clockspring was defective.

Computer scan done to revieal problem at russ darrow consider it a safety hazard. Possible early deployment of failure of air bags.
I am getting it repaired today and said it should be covered under warranty as it is a safety problem but the service manager said no. No safety defect mentioned.

The clock spring was broken causing an open circuit which caused the horn, and cruise control to be inoperable. Dealer said VIN not included in recall.
Prior to recall the clockspring was replaced, however dealer refused to refund consumer, also the transmission was replaced.
