The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, there was a loss of power steering assist. The contact mentioned that the engine overheated and the engine temperature warning light illuminated as the drive belt failed. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was advised that the idle pulley be replaced. The contact also stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000 and the current mileage was 115,000.
After starting the vehicle air bag warning light illuminated, and the horn failed intermittently. The dealership repaired the vehicle, however the consumer had to pay for the charges even though there as a recall on models up to 1999.
Consumer stated on Aug. 4 2003, due to brake failure the vehicle was involved in a rear end collision with another vehicle. Consumer was not injured in the accident, but none of the air bags deployed. The air bag warning light did not work either.
