Ignition Switch problems of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Six problems related to ignition switch have been reported for the 2010 Dodge Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2017

While driving on a street and hitting a large bump or driving over bumpy railroad tracks the vehicle will just shut off like someone turned off the ignition. You have to put the car back in park and turn the ignition switch on to start the car again. This has happened several times in the last month.

2 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2015

The ignition switch was finally replaced as a result of a recall. Shortly after the replacement we began experiencing a situation in which the van would not start. All we could get was a "clunk" sound from the front of the vehicle. It has a battery that is less than a year old and usually starts fine. The situation exists when we try to use either keys. So far, we have been lucky in that it starts fine after after 8 or more tries; the engine will start and for several days to a couple of weeks things are fine and then the same thing happens again. All electrical systems seem to be operating properly except for the tire pressure light. It, too, has started acting up with about the same frequency. The Dodge service department feels it may be the battery in the pressure sensor valve. Funny that they both started about a month or two after the ignition switch was replaced.

3 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2015

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated that the key was loose in the ignition switch and the vehicle was difficult to start. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the repair was not available. The dealer was contact multiple times and informed that the part was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time to provide the part to do the repair. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

4 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated that the ignition switch failed to turn intermittently. The failure occurred on numerous occasions. The dealer stated that the starter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 33,000.

5 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated the vehicle had several electrical failures. The brake light and turn signal lights became inoperable. The power windows began to operate independently, the hazard lights failed intermittently, the radio failed to function when engaged and the ignition key would sporadically fail to extract from the ignition switch. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the turn signal bulbs and brake light bulbs needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact did not have the dealer inspect the vehicle to determine the cause of the other electrical failures. The approximate failure mileage was 45,521 and the current mileage was 48,800.

6 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

I have a 2010 Dodge Caravan the first issue was the transmissions took it to a dealer who checked it and said the problem was in the computer did an upgrade corrected some of the problem still having problems with it shifting the second issue was the ignition switch which I took it in due to a recall I received bought the vehicle used so the recall had no been done after recall was completed now having trouble with head lights never had a problem until switch was changed when we got it back noticed that when key was in head lights came on this vehicle does not have driving on auto head lights according to paperwork I have shortly there after when turning on the headlights they flash a couple times and go off unable to get them to come back on now the lights come on when ever and go back off will not do anything unless a ken is in the ignition and then just flash once and go back off took it to the dealer who in their words after checking thought the tip was bad and wanted $900. 00 with no guarantee that would fix it I see a lot of complaints from owners while doing research to try and fix my problem about other vehicles with same from 1999 to present it appears to me Dodge has a problem they are not fixing maybe they need more bail out money.
