1 Front Suspension Shock Absorber problem of the 2000 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 08/31/2005

My mechanic while replacing the front brakes pointed out to me that there was a crack in the front left tower which holds the shock. He indicated that this was a common problem that he sees with the Dodge Caravan. I have a 2000 sport model. He indicated that failure could cause the shock to pop out, breaking the windshield and potential result in loss control of the car. The dealer and Chrysler have been un cooperative in resolving the problem. Dealer or Chrysler would not help in telling me how to file a complaint.

2 Front Suspension Shock Absorber problem of the 2001 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 10/18/2004

I own a 2001 Dodge Caravan sport with 39,501 miles. The wield that holds the right front strut to the steering assembly rusted and broke leaving the strut danging and useless. The dealer, mechanicsville Dodge, wants $800. 00 to replace both struts and repair the wield. We did nothing in our driving habits to cause this malfunction. The struts themselves are in good operating order. I feel its an obvious manufacturing defect that Dodge should fix at no charge.

6 Front Suspension Shock Absorber problem of the 1998 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 08/12/2002

Our mechanic alerted us to an abnormal, excessive amount of rust on strut towers. He indicated that the suspension will fall out if not repaired in near future. Additionally, he indicated that this vehicle will not pass inspection in its present condition. We contacted daimler Chrysler regarding this issue. They suggested that we have our local dealership inspect the problem (preston Dodge-butler, PA). The autobody manager there concurred with our mechanic's opinion and indicated because of the abnormality, that daimler chryser should pay for the repair of this problem. However, daimler Chrysler has stated that they will not do so.

Both right and left strutt towers had rusted amost completely through. If the van had not overheated, we wouldn't have known that we had a problem. We were told that we needed some parts replaced, but not the importance of these parts. We were lucky that the strutt towers didn't give way, and that we, or no one esle was hurt, when we went in for the repairs, we were told that we would not be allowed to take the vechile off the lot.
