I have a 2005 Dodge Caravan that I have had for 2 winters now and both winters it has blown the power steering pump leaving a giant red puddle on the ground and a giant repair bill on my wallet! I have discussed it with my mechanic and was told to expect this at least once a year! I do not find this acceptable. This time it happened in my driveway but last year it happended on the road and almost landed in the ditch as a result!.

I have a 2002 grand Caravan. There is a loud whining sound from the steering column. I have complained of this problem from the time it was purchased. Originally the dealership said they could not duplicate my complaint. After the warranty expired I was told there was an internal leak in the steering column and the rack, pump and lines needed to be replaced. This was done and the noise is still there.

Aug. 20, 2007 - steering has been locking up daily, for the past year on my 2001 Dodge Caravan. It is obviously a serious and constant problem with these vehicles. I have had the issue looked at by various mechanics and none can identify the problem for sure. They all say that it is happening too often - it's very dangerous but they can only 'try changing the rack or power steering pump or flushing the fluid. . . . ' no guarantee that it will fix the problem. Chrysler has been very negligent with this issue. I encourage everyone to vote with their feet and go elsewhere when purchasing your next vehicle - not Chrysler.

This family car is not a vehicle we drive every day. On (9/10/04), we went to use this car with less than 72,000 miles on it, and when we went to turn the steering wheel we heard a squeling noise from the power stering unit. We found an area of seepage of stering fluid under the vehicle. After further investigation we had found it to be coming from the area of the base of the power stering pump casting. The leaking fluid is actually flowing through the voids in the metal of this unit. Not only is this a hazard to the operation of the vehicle and its passenger's, it is a hazard to other vehicles on the highway. I am very concerned with the use of poor quality parts and used in our transportation industry. If a person is driving one of these vehicles and one of these units fails it could cause catasrophic damage to the people involved. I do feel obligated to inform you of this defect. As of 8/17/04 this vehicle will have this defective power stering unit replaced at the Chrysler dealer in keene nh. I am not aware if I will be able to get this unit back from the dealer when they replace it.
