1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2018

During its most recent scheduled oil change on may 25, 2018, the Dodge service department indicated that my 2010 Challenger srt8 with 56,000 miles has an oil leak that is leaking from the front of the crankshaft and the Dodge Challenger serpentine/drive belt is spraying oil all over the place under the hood, on the engine and directly into the alternator which the Dodge service department indicated could cause a fire! I contacted fiat Chrysler automobiles customer care (case number 34409843) and provided detail with after 5 customer care agents on 5 separate occasions promising me a callback (never received) wished me good luck with having Dodge address the engine oil leak / fire hazard. I have inquired with two other local Dodge dealership service departments and both indicated that they have never seen this type of issue on a 2010 Dodge Challenger srt8. On July 3, 2018, I once again contacted fiat Chrysler automobiles customer care and was advised that case number 34409843 was unilaterally closed by a supervisor without contacting me or the Dodge dealership service department that performs all maintenance on my 2010 Dodge Challenger srt8. Accordingly, I requested and the fiat Chrysler automobiles customer care representative opened up a new case (case number 34660813) case number 34409843 05/25/2018-gabriel employee id gw373 06/13/2013-jake employee id jr2692 06/20/2018-robert employee id rc2336 06/20/2018-lauren employee id luw551 07/03/2018-janelle (refused to provide employee id) case number 34660813 07/03/2018-doaa employee id dh1013 since the service visit on may 25, 2018, I have not been able to drive my vehicle for fear that it will catch fire.

2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2017

I was going about 50 miles per hour on a busy freeway when my abs light turned on lights in the panel start to flicker and engine shuts off. This is one of many occurances engine has shut off without warning. Took to dealership under my mopar service contract and they replaced alternator. One month later engine turns off again. 5 separate occasions.

3 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2016

My son was driving on a busy road in the city going strait ahead and noticed the battery light had come on, very quickly he then noticed smoke coming from the front of the car, under the hood. Fortunately he was able to quickly exit the roadway and get into a parking lot. He opened the hood and more smoke came out. He called me (his father) and explained the situation. I asked if it was on fire and cautioned him to get back and to let it cool down. He let it cool down and attempted to restart the car. The car had no electrical power at this time. Door locks and trunk latch would not function. After putting the key in the ignition and realizing the car was completely dead he attempted to remove the key from the ignition and the car would not release the key, therefore he was forced to leave the key in the car unattended and eventually towed for service. I have concerns about the safety of this situation given that if he would not have been able to exit quickly the car could have caught fire or completely lost power/control while he was stuck in the roadway. Apparently the car alternator got hot enough to destroy it and the battery. After searching the internet there are numerous reports of this same problem and subsequent recall of later year models of this exact same alternator with a slightly different engine model(NHTSA 14v-634) recall number p-60 alternator. I have called Dodge/Chrysler and filed reports/complaints with them. I have attached repair invoice confirming the issue explained. I believe this vehicle should fall under the same recall as later year models due to unsafe and dangerous potential of mechanical failure. Thank you.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the battery sensor light would illuminate. The vehicle taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the diode in the alternator was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 66,000. Jft.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2015

2 days prior to failure I noticed a whining sound coming from the engine after which the car was not driven until 4/2/15. On 4/2/15, upon returning home after driving the car, I noticed the windows were very slow to roll up. I shut the car off and tried a restart, would not start, appeared to be a dead battery. When wife arrived home we jump started the car and proceeded to the local Dodge dealer. On the way the car was very sluggish, almost stalled several times and various dash lights came on; battery, abs, traction control. The car finally stalled about 1/8th mile from dealer and was towed the rest of the way. On Friday, 4/3, a service writer told me the altermator and battery were bad. It was at that time I learned about a recall for defective alternator was in progress for 2011 to 2014 v-6 equipped Chrysler vehicles. My car is a 2010 with a 5. 7l v-8, however after checking post on a Challenger forum, I discovered my car had the exact same symptoms as the v-6 equipped vehicles prior to the failure. I spoke with a service tech who said he knows of other v-8 equipped Challengers that suffered an alternator failure and would not be surprised if the recall is expanded. Also, I was infromed that the battery is not covered under my esp even though the alternator is clearly the cause of the battery failure.

6 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

I heard a terrible whine and then smoke came out of the hood and the engine light came on. Luckily, I was a block away from my house so I pulled it into the driveway and opened the hood and saw smoke coming from the alternator. The alternator windings were black and the car wouldn't start. Battery died from not being charged. I replaced the alternator from a local auto parts store and the car runs fine. I was also able to recharge the battery and it still is working. By the way, the car used to die once a month or so when I would be turning right into a parking lot. Since I have replaced the alternator, I do not have that problem anymore.
