Wiring problems of the 2006 Dodge Charger

1 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

Headlights and dash randomly flicker and shut off while car is on and while driving. Testing indicates the problem is in the headlight switch or wiring to the switch. When headlight switch removed, headlights are in always on mode, and there is no flickering or shutting off. Headlight switch module has been replaced and still flickers with new switch/knob. Dealer unable to find and fix issue due to intermittent nature of problem. Severe problem when driving and night and lights turn off. Problem also is irritating as it looks like I am flashing my lights at other vehicles.

2 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. While driving 40 mph, the contact noticed smoke being emittion from under the hood. The contact inspected and saw fire sparks from the passenger side headlights around the wiring; the fire was working its way up to the motor and rest of the vehicle. The contact extinguished the fire and drove home. There were no injuries. The contact called the manufacturer who sent a representative to inspect; the contact was informed that they could not find the cause of the fire and could offer no assistance. The failure mileage was 80,000.

3 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. While test driving the vehicle, the contact noticed that one of the headlights was out. The dealer replaced the failed headlight. She later discovered that the turn signals were also inoperable. An independent mechanic found burned wires in the fuse box and electrical failure. No repairs were made at that time. On a separate occasion, the vehicle stalled and was towed to a dealer. The dealer stated that the wiring harness was defective and needed to be replaced at an estimated cost of $500. The failure mileage was 31,000 and current mileage was 32,000.

4 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2007

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that all of the components related to the instrument panel, such as the air conditioner, steering column controls, and phone system worked intermittently. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure; however, they replaced the steering column switch, clock spring, wiring harness, head unit, amplifier, and radio. The contact stated that the failure worsened after the replacements. The manufacturer stated that they would replace the vehicle in July of 2007. As of November 13, 2007, the manufacturer had not replaced the vehicle. The failure mileage was 2,000 and current mileage was 7,700.
