36 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the accelerator pedal seized to the floorboard and caused vehicle speed to increase to 65 mph. The contact shifted into neutral to slow the vehicle. The contact also mentioned that the key had to be removed and placed back into the ignition several times to get the engine started. The contact also mentioned that the steering failed and caused the contact to crash into a vehicle while he attempted to park. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the ignition switch, tumbler, accelerator box, and the bushings had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 56,031 and the current mileage was 85,300. Mah.

37 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2011

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that the igntion switch failed twice and the dealer replaced the part and the failure recurred. The contact was later included in NHTSA campaign id number: 14v567000 (electrical system) and stated that the dealer indicated that they installed the wrong ignition switch and that the part was not available. They were unable to provide a timeframe that the part would become available. The vehicle was taken back because the dealer was to provide two new keys and the contact reported that after the repair the fob would randomly only open the drivers side door and that it did not open the other doors when the contact made several attempts. The contact also did not have access to the trunk because after the recall repair the keys were not programmed. The recall repair was not remedied correctly. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was still waiting to determine when the correct ignition switch would be installed in the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 59,138. Dyd.

38 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced a loss of power and had trouble starting. The failure occurred without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle was able to be restarted after the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Prior to the failure, the vehicle experienced similar failures. The ignition switch was replaced. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 14v567000 (electrical system), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
