I was driving my vehicle straight down a city street at 36 miles per hour through an intersection light and my car began to shake really hard and the car began to drop speed on its own, I went to press the gas to acelerate and the egine light began to flash and the air conditioner started blowing really hot air and I lost all power to the vehicle. I tried to push the gas to turn off the busy street but I had no power so I had to pretty much coast to the nearest place to get out of traffice. Once I pulled over into a parking lot the car started to have a smell as if something was burning underneath the hood, at that point I put the car in park and pushed the off button, I sat a few minutes then tried to restart the car but it would not start and kept making a noise so I turned the car off got out and got my toddler out of the backseat and called my husband, he arrived about 10 minutes later and tried jump starting the car but it would not start and was making a weird noise when pushing the start button, at this point I figured the car stopped due to the alternator recall that was issued so I called my insurance company and had the vehicle towed to my local Dodge dealership where I had a diagnostic done on the vehicle and was told my engine is completely burned up due to lack of oil which is not true becuase I checked the oil dipstick 2 days after it had been sitting at the Dodge dealership and there was oil in the car and no oil leaks, I just had an oil change in March of this year (2018) so I believe my engine was burned up completely due to the alternator and a circut shortage cased the car to over heat and burn the engine, I need this to be investgated to see if this is secondary to the recall so that I can see if im responsible for the damages or not because now I need an entire new engine which is over $8,000 in costs.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that the engine stalled numerous times while driving at 25 mph and the vehicle drifted, the steering wheel light and the traction light illuminated when the failure occurred. The contact was able avoid a crash. The contact was able to move vehicle into service station and was able to drive the vehicle home. The contact also advised that the vehicle was taken to jim snatcher motors 511 calhoun street, johnson, SC, 29832, phone (803) 275-2576 to have recall NHTSA campaign number 17v435000 (alternator) replaces. However, the repair did not correct the failure. The vehicle was towed to an unknown mechanic to have a diagnostic performed and the mechanic advised that the alternator was not provinding the correct amount of amp. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 129,49. Li.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. Recall t36: my ar cut off on me while I was driving due to the recall on the alternator and power steering. My car has been in the shop for 3 weeks and I finally got a call back today. The recall department told me I would have to pay for the repairs and then submit to them for reimbursement. I have argued about having to pay out of pocket for a recall. Also they are trying to give me a alternator that still is not the permanent fix. So this alternator could still go out on me while I am driving like the first time. When the car cut off I had just gotten off the highway. Thank god I was not on the highway still because the car just shut completely down. I had no power when the car shut down and I ended up running up on the curb trying to stop the car.
While driving on a local freeway on Saturday, September 2, 2017, the battery symbol on the dashboard of my 2011 Dodge Charger r/t lit up. Upon arriving home there was a very strong burning smell coming from the engine. That very same day there was a safety recall notice, reference number: 32343087, in my mail from fiat Chrysler automobiles (fca), po box 218008, auburn hills mi 48321-8008 stating that the alternator was defective and to not drive the car until the problem was fixed as the car might catch on fire. The notice further stated that a replacement alternator was not available and there was no known date when one would be available. On October 20, 2017, almost 2 months and not hearing from Dodge, I had dimano mike's automotive, 1640 s. Santa fe st. , unit a, santa ana, CA 92705 replace my alternator at a cost of $903. 19. On October 24, 2017 I mailed to fca customer assistance the invoice and credit card receipt for this repair. It was delivered on October 30, 2017. As of this date, November 10, 2017, I have not been reimbursed for this repair.
Vehicle stopped in the middle of the road due to alternator sudden failure. There is a recall on alternator part, but the dealership will not honor the recall.
Recall on alternator on 8/27/17 I was driving on the road and my car just stop running. I restarted it and the battery safe mode appeared on the screen. I made it to my house and my car stop working all together. I called evan arena Dodge to make a service apt. They stated they were backed up and gave me a date 8/8/17 @ 10 am. I called the recall 9/5/17 agent stated part will not be in until 2018. I stated what I'm I suppose to do without a car, agent stated they will approve a rental until then. I called recall 9/6-9/8 to guarantee that my car will get the proper care and I will not be out of a car. Chris service agent at evan arena Dodge states my car part is on recall and the part will not available until 2018. I stated I was aware of the issue per recall. Chris service agent gave me a bill of $99. 99 I refused to sign and pay for it because it was an alternator recall issue and not fault of my own. I stated to chris service agent, what about a rental per recall I will be provided a rental until further notice. chris stated I don't know why they sent out them letters out because everyone has been coming up here to get their car fixed. I stated to chris service agent I'm a victim of the recalled alternator and I have been without a car for a week and a half. Chris left desk and tom supervisor came and stated parts will not be in until March 2018. I stated to tom that's not my problem, I need to get to work I have 2 jobs and no transportation. I need a rental, tom stated I will email my district manager and he usually gets back to me quickly for the approval of the rental, if it's the recall alternator. I stated well I have an apt at 10 am put it on the diagnostic and you should be calling me in an hour. Chris service agent called me at 12:30 and stated it was the alternator and I stated what about the rental?unable to complete my complaint due to lack of character.
On the morning of 8/20 I drove 2 blocks from my house when the chattery save mode turned on accompanied by the battery light on the dash shortly after the car lost power steering and all electric components shut off and then the car shutoff and was immobile after that. I pushed the car home and the car hasn't turned over since. I disconnected the battery and used a battery Charger to recharge so I can put my windows up when I reconnected the battery I put the car in run knowing the alternator was bad and pending recall. As the windows hit the closed position black smoke started coming off the alternator and I promptly disconnected the battery again completely after turning the car into off position again. The alternator continued to smoke for 5 minutes as I stared at it with fire extinguisher in hand and phone in the other with 911 dialed and ready. As the car sat in the driveway after all this I noticed a fuel smell that came from the car then I noticed a fuel leak. A constant dripping of 1or 2 drops per 5seconds. The leak comes from below the door hinges area of the passenger side rear door. I cannot find the origin but this is where it drips from. I've read that this is also a common problem but Dodge or any other affiliate has recalled any fuel components and people that have changed the full fuel system tank hoses pumps everything still continue to have this issue when the vehicle is filled with gas to max capacity and the leak stops once the fuel level reaches 3/4 tanks or less.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. While driving approximately 25 mph, the contact heard a winding noise and the anti-lock brake system, traction control, and battery warning indicators illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over in a parking spot and noticed smoke emerging from the alternator area. The contact had to pour water to extinguish the fire. The contact re-entered the vehicle and there was no electrical power. The police and fire departments were not present. There were no injuries. The contact called the dealer (north olmsted Dodge/Jeep in north olmsted, ohio) who stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
"takata recall" vehicle alternator burned out. The vehicle was being driven at the time when the battery light and the abs light came on both in red not the normal orange, also the traction light started coming off and on at times for the past month when driving as normal to places around my area. When she made it home she noticed that all the instrument panel lights came on then went off and she smelled smoke and turned the vehicle off and raised the hood and noticed that burnt electrical smell with smoke coming from the side of the motor where the alternator is, so when I got home I noticed the alternator had black burn scars around the coil areas and with a flashlight noticed some of the coils inside were melted down from the burning.
While driving on a main thouroughfare, the engine stalled. ( there was no warning that there was a problem, no warning lights were on. ) the electronic throttle control warning light came on, and then all elec power went out. Leaving the car without lights/flashers. Upon investigation, the alternator failed, shorting out the electrical system and killing/destroying the battery. The alternator shouldn't do this. I found that Dodge had a recall ( p-60) on their v-6 models for this very same issue. My car is a v-8. I was lucky I wasn't driving on a major highway or at night as the car had no way iof indicating distress to other drivers and the headlights didn't work. There is a clear defect in the alternators of these cars, its only a matter of time before someone is injured or killed.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Kernersville Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram in kernersville, north carolina was made aware of the recall and stated that the parts were unavailable. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled due to a faulty alternator, which was replaced. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.
Get in car to go to wal-mart one Saturday morning the low battery light comes on and get a message that car was going to battery saving mode. Drove to store got my items got back into car and all electronics just started shutting off then car started to idle and cut out made a u shape in parking lot as was afraid to get on the road for fear of it quitting in the middle of the highway. Turn car off wouldn't start backup you could smell something hot under the hood. The alternator was so hot burnt hand. Had to call tow truck to take to dealership for them to fix. I was lucky this happened in a parking lot and not on a road could have caused a serious accident. The cost of repair was $1, 187. 75 plus it took 2 weeks for repair. This could have caused an accident or caught my car on fire.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and smoke emitted from the front of the vehicle. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator caught on fire and needed to be replaced. There were no injuries. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000.
When I was driving. Battery saver mode came on and the radio turned off. I started getting service lights and engine light came on. Able to get it home as I was only a block away when this started. I turned off and on the car. The car studdered to start and the a ton of error lights came on like abs, break, engine, service lights. The car studdered and the stearing wheel and break was locked. Tuned out it was the alternator that died and thank god I was close to home and not going fast else I could have been in a really bad accident as everything around my house is a highway. The 3. 5l engine was recalled but after looking at all the complaints about the 5. 7l having the same issue. This also needs to be recalled ASAP before someone dies.
Received a indicator messages stating "battery save mode" while driving. Once we made it to a stop, the vehicle began to struggle a bit. I drove it home. Thank god I did because it would not start back up, it lost power. It appears from researching the symptoms, the alternator is not strong enough to efficiently power the vehicle. I'm glad I was not on the road driving when it shut off.
At night or when hid headlights are on for about 30 minutes, one of the headlights will turn off, leaving only one light on. If I stop the car and turn off the ignition and restart the car both lights will be on. Also if I turn off the headlight switch for a moment and then back to the on position both headlights come back on. At first I thought I had a burnt out bulb and I took the car to firestone to get a replacement bulb, but they said both headlights work and could not duplicate the problem. I took it to a Dodge dealership and they could not find a problem. This problem still occurs. Neither firestone or Dodge charged me anything for the check. They both said "no problem found". Now Dodge sent me a recall notice for an alternator problem. I wonder if this is related.
P60 / NHTSA 14v-634 is a recall that is currently not available to vehicle due to my alternator having 180 amps. Please investigate the 180 amp alternators as well as it falls under the same recall reasons of the p60 / NHTSA 14v-634. I was driving home on the freeway and suddenly the lights on the dashboard started lighting up. I felt a little uneasy about why all these lights started lighting up, so I exited. As I exited, the wheel began to lock up, and before I knew it, the car had completely died. I was stuck in the middle of the road. I had no detection of the alternator failing at all and while the car was sitting in the middle of the road, I started to smell something burning. I got out of the car, and called triple a for a tow. I was relieved when I saw p60 / NHTSA 14v-634 online for a recall of my make and model, but when I got to the dealership, they had advised me that I had no recalls for any alternators. That is when I found out by calling the fca group recall assistance center that my alternator has 180 amps and the recall was only for 160 amp Dodge Chargers. Please investigate the 180 amps. Luckily, my family was not in the car with me while the alternator failed. Being stuck in the middle of the road and smelling something burning in the car would be terrifying for them.
3 separate vehicle shutdowns while accelerating to pass another vehicle and to override cruise control. Esc and abs light came on along with "acc/fcw unavailable vehicle system error" in the evic at 30mph. Seconds later all warning lights shut off, the turned back on a few seconds later and repeated constantly. Power steering was 100% lost while turning, almost causing me to go into a ditch. At about 25mph, again at 35mph, and again at 40mph, my car had briefly applied the ebrake by itself, even though the ebrake was fully disengaged, and a clicking sound could be heard coming from the shifter. The spedometer drops to zero, then warning lights turn off again and spedometer goes back to normal function. Brake pedal became very stiff, making it difficult to stop. When I came to a full stop at an intersection, the ebrake prevented me from accelerating, then I was able to accelerate after a couple of seconds and then my power steering went out. Then the airbag light came on. After the intersection, the brake light remained on, speedometer stayed at 0, airbag light stayed on. Dinging constantly, as cars normally do when you first start them ( about 1 ding a second). Radio and most interior lighting shut off, headlights shut off, then came back on and started flickering, accompanied by a "battery saver mode" message on the evic. Windshield wipers started moving, but very slowly. Engine sounded windy, like a siren from a fire truck and engine was noticeably less powerful. Burning smell from engine. Once stopped, car would not restart, and almost no power to any area of the car. Replaced battery, which fixed nothing. Window was stuck down, so we pulled the battery and put it on a Charger to see if it was charged, and put it back in the car. The battery was connected about 45 seconds, with the engine off but the car in acc mode, and alternator started smoking. 20 cel codes.
(2011 Dodge Charger, 3. 6l. Engine, 180amp alternator. ) Dodge had a recall on the 3. 6 l, 160 amp. Alternator. My car had the every same problem (11/20/2016) was towed to the dealership, called Dodge and was told our car was not in the recall but if they recalled later they would reimburse. We believe the 180 amp alternator should also be recalled, the car shuts down completely and we were very lucky it happened at a low speed, could have been a serious accident if going high speed because there is no warning , and steering, brakes, everything is gone. The tow driver had to remove the console to get it in n to move. The bill for the repair is over a $1000. 00, Dodge should pay all or at least some of these bills for t heir customers.
Alternator failed while driving vehicle with a child as passenger, approximately 4 minutes and 1 mile from home, resulting in a fire immediately after pulling over. Fire occurred after vehicle stopped. Dodge refusing to acknowledge any issues with alternator despite recall on same equipment for v6 engines.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. While driving approximately 30 mph, the engine failed without warning. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
My vehicle started making a whining noise and I started smelling something burning, the battery saver mode came on and the abs and I turned the vehicle off and popped the hood and my alternator is fried less than 60,000 miles on the vehicle and it won't start or I can't jump it. I was sitting in a parking lot and my car is still in that parking lot right now.
My Dodge Charger last night would not start. I got it jumped and it started, I left the cables hooked up for a while then unhooked them. After unhooking the cables the car still would run but lights started popping up on the dash, I put the car in drive and the wiper blades came on, radio turned off, battery power saver came on and all the abs lights check engine light etc came on and the car just cut off. I did a little research and comes to find out that is the alternator and this is a common issue in the 2011 to 2014 Dodge Chargers.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. While driving 70 mph, the alternator failed and caused the vehicle to stall without warning. The vehicle was towed to a dealer to be repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
Car died at intersection with almost no warning. Lost all power with in 1 min of stall. Alternator is fried. Came to a stop and within 30 seconds a battery light came on and said "battery saver mode". Bells started to ding and the wipers turned on. Tried to pull over and car stalled in middle of the road. Turned hazards on and 1 minute later there was no power at all. When we tried to jump the car in order to close the windows and sunroof, the connectors started to smoke where the jumpers were connected. For a high performance car there is no alternator warning or gauge to determine if it is starting to fail. That only shows that this is a known problem and they do not want customers to see what is happening. Car was running perfectly fine until that point.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that the battery warning indicator illuminated. The contact replaced the battery. In addition, while driving the vehicle, an abnormal odor entered the interior. It was determined that the alternator assembly was on fire. The fire extinguished on its own. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic for further inspection and diagnostic testing. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system), which addresses the 160 amp. The contact had an 180 amp and experienced the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
As I was driving I smelled a burning odor and also noticed my vehicle going into a battery protect mode. . . Radio, air conditioner shut off. I immediately pulled off the road and looked under the hood and smoke was coming from the alternator. I entered my vehicle and the vehicle had no power at all to start it to move it or get it out of gear.
When leaving my house one day my radio cut off within 1 minute of the car being started. I pulled over, turned the car off and then turned the car back on and all sound went out again within 1 minute. I rode my whole trip with no sound. Upon arriving to my destination I noticed my car was in battery saver mode (a mode that I have never seen). My battery has been bad before and I never received this message. Within a week my car would not even start and had no electrical power. I attempted to do research on the battery saver mode and found out that this issue with my Charger is actually a common issue and was a recall for the v6 Chargers but not the v8s. The issue is the alternator and I am truly upset that the manufacturer has not created a recall to fix this issue. I have had several Honda's and Toyota's and never had an alternator issue. This is pathetic and goes to show how Dodge/Chrysler values their customers. I can honestly say that this will probably be my last Dodge vehicle if the manufacturer does not solve this issue.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was diagnosed as needing a new alternator. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 46,841.
In August my car out of nowhere warned and activated itself for battery saver mode and not long after that same day the car lost all power causing me to loose total control of brakes and steering as well as unable to unlock my car to get out. Imagine the fear I had especially having my fiance and daughter in the car with me. Thankfully no collision occured but what if? the battery died because the alternator needed power to perform itself. Why? Dodge Charger r/t mopar 5. 7 hemi. Autozone charged my battery and checked it for free and diagnosed it as a healthy battery. When installing the battery back I turned on my car to diagnose it with the sensor reader the engine was shacking and the belt began to smoke up and whistling loudly right away turned it off but not before getting the code p60 but my car doesnt qualify for that recall cuz its a v8. . So if I would of died then would my car been eligible cuz u guys would actually listen that all Dodge with alternator 160 amp are faulty. I dont got $$ to be throwing I fixed it once and the same dashboard light keeps warning me and before it kills my alternator I charge the battery doing this every time I have to drive my car cant imagine a girl seems to know much more than the dealership mechanics or whoever decides what car qualifies for recall.
Alternator died out of no where at 56k miles and they don't want to take responsibility. I was driving on a busy street and all the lights went off and power steering went out , then power and rolled into a parking lot. Almost got killed driving and car went crazy with all lights and now is dead.
