When my tank is full to around half full it leaks gas and there is a very strong smell on the back passenger side outside of the car. Inside of the car is intolerable. You have to drive with the windows down. I've read this is a common and very dangerous Charger problem but yet there is no recall.
Strong fuel order when fill gas tank. I looked online it looks like a common issue. This is extremely dangerous someone's going to get killed if it hasn't happened already. The gas leaks out at the top of the fuel sending unit located under rear seat on the passengers side. When I took the seat off there was a puddle of fuel. Again this is extremely dangerous and seems to be a very common issue after reading online.
Gas tank is leaking on top right side, when full. Dealership says there is no recall. Need a recall. Fast!.
I started smelling gas inside my car. I noticed a wet place on the ground under where my gas tank is. I took my car to my mechanic. He stated that when the tank is full, it is leaking on the top right side of my tank because that side is not welded correctly together. This is a safety hazard. I have children that ride in my car. My mechanic said just the cost of a new tank is $1,100. 00. That is not including the labor to remove the old one to put a new one in. This problem should be added as a recall due to so many others having the same issue.
My car started smelling like gas all the time. When I got back from the store I noticed the gas was leaking from the passenger side back door. There was a gas puddle and the inside of the car smelled like a lot of gas. My brother lifted the back seat and there was a lot of gas leaking from the fuel tank.
On the morning of 8/20 I drove 2 blocks from my house when the chattery save mode turned on accompanied by the battery light on the dash shortly after the car lost power steering and all electric components shut off and then the car shutoff and was immobile after that. I pushed the car home and the car hasn't turned over since. I disconnected the battery and used a battery Charger to recharge so I can put my windows up when I reconnected the battery I put the car in run knowing the alternator was bad and pending recall. As the windows hit the closed position black smoke started coming off the alternator and I promptly disconnected the battery again completely after turning the car into off position again. The alternator continued to smoke for 5 minutes as I stared at it with fire extinguisher in hand and phone in the other with 911 dialed and ready. As the car sat in the driveway after all this I noticed a fuel smell that came from the car then I noticed a fuel leak. A constant dripping of 1or 2 drops per 5seconds. The leak comes from below the door hinges area of the passenger side rear door. I cannot find the origin but this is where it drips from. I've read that this is also a common problem but Dodge or any other affiliate has recalled any fuel components and people that have changed the full fuel system tank hoses pumps everything still continue to have this issue when the vehicle is filled with gas to max capacity and the leak stops once the fuel level reaches 3/4 tanks or less.
My vehicle is a 2011 Dodge charge 80,000 miles. For about 4months its been smelling like fume, gasoline inside the vehicle like if there was a leak when the car is stationary, in motion at all times. When I fill my gas tank the smell gets worst. Since it began to smell like gasoline the check engine light has been on. I have not fixed the problem because mechanics are wanting approximately $500 to fix the gasoline fuel system. I hope I don't blow up. It is a unsafe condition to drive my vehicle because I have twin 1year olds. I have contacted the dealer to find if there is a recall but they state they don't.
When the car is filled with gas, it emits a strong odor of gas and leaks under the rear passage side of car approx. 16 inches in front of rear tire. As the tank gets lower of fuel, the smell is not as strong and leak disappears. This occurs when the car is parked. If the car is driven with a full fuel tank, there is a strong gas odor inside the cabin. This smell lessens as the fuel tank empties. I have taken video of the exterior fuel leak approx. 17 hours after fill up that show a steady fuel drip every 12-15 seconds.
If I fill up my tank of gas it starts leaking from underneath the vehicle. Fumes can be smelled inside of the vehicle and outside as well. Its very penetrating. When its hot outside if the car remains close when u arr inside the fumes begin to givr you a sore throat and short of breath. Very dangerous.
Every time I fill up a strong odor of gas is observed inside the cabin of the car and area around the car until it get's down to about 1/2 tank of fuel. I've read several complaints and costing us consumers like $1,000. 00 to $1,800. 00.
Strong odor of gasoline whenever gas tank is full. Will make driver light headed.
As I approached my car there was a heavy odor of fuel. The next morning under the back right tire there was a puddle of fuel. I removed the back seat and under the cover there was a puddle of fuel on top of the plastic of the gas tank. Dodge has been clearly made aware of this issue and since changed the design of the gas tank. For me to replace it would cost me over $2,000. This should be replaced by Dodge ASAP. This puts my family and I in grave danger being that of the electrical wire that run along side the unit. This only happens when I fill my tank and it is a continual drip. I contacted Dodge and they said they "know" nothing of such issues. All it will take a one dropped cigarette to close to the car and things will be bad.
We have a gas smell for some time ,and we took it to dealer ship and they did not find anything , this happened when we have a full thank, so this morning I did it and we can see the gas leak from the tank and we are scare that this may catch on fire,. I read that there is 6 complaints about the same thing. And they tried to fix it ,. And cost like 2000 ,. Please make sure that they do something before something happend,.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. While the vehicle was parked and after refueling, a strong odor of fuel was noticed. The contact noticed fuel leaking from an unknown area of the rear passenger side and the engine check warning light illuminated. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was refueled. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 70,000.
My vehicle was leaking gas near the rear passenger door after I filled up. When I took it to have it checked the dealership told me it was a leaking seal and fixed it. About two weeks later when I filled up again the problem occurred again. After keeping my car for nearly 8 hours the dealership told me that the fuel tank on the car cannot hold the weight of a full tank of gas which causes a separation near the seal which in turn causes the leak. I googled this problem and many people are having the same problem, but Chrysler refuses to pay full cost to repair it. They offered to help pay for the repairs but said they cannot fix it free of charge because it is not a recall and my car is out of warranty.
Gas leaks when tank is above 3/4 fuel. It leaks beside the right rear tire, and it gives off a very strong odor inside cabin. This is a hazardous situation. The gas will leak until under 3/4 tank of gas.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. While the vehicle was parked, a strong smell of fuel was noticed within the vehicle. The contact observed drops of fuel leaking underneath the rear passenger side door. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred when the fuel tank was filled. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
Anytime I fill my gas tank it gives a foul smell and later noticed fuel leak on rear passenger side right in front of passenger side rear tire, now I have to fill my tank only half because it leaks when I fill it up,this is a huge safety issue.
2011 Dodge Charger / 50,733 miles: when adding 5 or more gallons of fuel into the tank, there's a strong odor of gasoline coming from the car and gas is leaking by the back tire. Lifting the seat, there's a puddle of gas. Logging a complaint now in case a fire occurs that destroys the car, property or injury. Its encouraging to see other have reported the same failure but I cannot locate any recall information.
Hello I read on a lot of 2011 Chargers of the smell of gas when u fill up the car the inside of the car still smell strong like it's leaking somewhere it says it's a defected gas tank. I have that issue going on now and was wondering why there is no recall for this situation since a lot of people are complaining about this? this is a very dangerous situation since my kids are in the car inhaling these fumes.
Out of no where and for the past 8-10mo. , my 2011 Charger has been leaking fuel. Anytime the vehicle is filled with fuel over 3/4 full, it leaks onto the ground of the passenger side back tire and fumes fill the cabin, so badly you can't drive it unless all the windows are down, so your not asphyxiated by the fumes. The fuel odor is so bad that you could smell it from a distance in my drive way. The engine light is on for this reason and my a/c recirculate will not work (as a safety precaution), as well as the auto start on the key fob. I took it into the shop and they replaced the first seal. All seamed to be fine until I filled up with gas which was the day after the repair. I took it back to the shop and they said that there was a side seal that needed to be replaced. That repair did not fix the issue. I got under my car to see where it was leaking from and how much was leaking and I shot a video. I couldn't attach the video, but it appears that it is leaking directly from the tank itself. From what I have read on other complaints it is a manufacture's defect of the tank itself, and over time can not support the weight of the fuel. With the battery and cable's being extremely close to the location of the tank and leak, this is an explosion waiting to happen. If someone drops or lights a cigarette near or by this location it is an explosion waiting to happen. Merely starting the vehicle is a risk. The investigation regarding this issue needs to be accelerated. Its sad that people have to be seriously injured or die, before something is rectified. The vehicle is not old enough for it to be a "wear and tear" issue. This is a manufacturing defect that needs to be addressed and a recall needs to be issued.
Every time I fill the car up with gas to full I smell fumes inside the car. Also, if the car is parked in my driveway which is at a downward slope, fuel runs down the fuel lines and onto the paved blacktop, leaving two visibly large gasoline stains. Until the car has burned off half of the filled tank, the odor of gasoline is so strong in the interior of the car it gives me bad headaches and I have to roll the windows down to get fresh air. This has been a noticeable problem for 6 months. I have owned this car since July of 2011. I am concerned that the car may catch on fire if I can smell the gasoline fumes from inside my car.
About 30 minutes after refueling I noticed a strong fuel inside and around the vehicle. The first time I didn't think much of it thinking the maybe fuel spilled doing refueling. On the next fill up I noticed the same odor. This time I decided to check to see where the odor was coming from. While parked, I noticed fuel was leaking from under the car near the rear right passenger door. It was a continuous drip. I called the dealership about the issue and to see if there has been other complaints/ recalls. They stated that they was not aware of this problem. Then I researched online and found out that there had been other complaints of the same problem. This is a very serious problem and need immediate attention. This problem could cause some serious injury or even death. Due to the cost of the repair, I have not been able to get this fix. I have noticed as long as I didn't fill the tank pass 3/4 tank, the fuel doesn't leak. Please look into this matter!.
Gas tank rubbing on back seat causeing hole in gas tank leaks into passenger compartment.
On 7-25-15 I filled car up with gas and after doing so smelled a strong gas smell on the inside of the car. I came home and parked the car. My husband went outside near the vehicle and noticed smell and begin to do a walk around the vehical and notice that it was leaking gas from the tank. He immediately went to the inside of the car and pulled out the back seat and notice the gas were come from around the seal of the gas tank. He said we need to get some of the gas out of the tank. We drive it a distance to see if the smell would go away but it never did until it were at a half of tank. He then on 7-27-15 replaced the seal and went back to the gas station to fill the car up again and the strong fuel smell returned and the tank being leaking again. I then started to look and see if there has been a recall on this issue and noticed it seems to be a know dangerous issue with the gas tank on this vehicle that needs to be looked into ASAP. I am so afraid that if some throws something flammable near this vehicle its going to ignite. Very dangerous and needs resolving!!.

My 2011 Dodge Charger is persistently having strong fuel smell while driving at all speed when the fuel tank is 3/4 to full. After parked overnight, the smell subsides. This problem started in 2013. As of 2018, it has been driven 28000 miles.
