2000 Dodge Dakota developed a brake problem. ** answer required***. The brake would pulsate when braking and cause severe problems with the abs which almost took the vehicle off of the road. The brakes were replaced a year prior.
I have been having brake problems with my Dodge Dakota 4x4 club cab truck since the first 6,000 miles. Warped rotors have been replaced at least 5 times and I have also complained about poor stopping power of back brakes. Dodge dealership "checked" them and found nothing wrong. Also having lots of problems with noises from front suspension and am suspecting ball joint problems now because of all the news coming out regarding this problem recently on cbs news.
While driving home from work I needed to slow down to make a turn. I pressed the brake and it went completely to the floor. Luckily I do not have an automatic because I had to power shift down and I barely made the turn not to mention almost hitting a telephone pole. I was just about home so I proceeded driving slowly because I knew I had no brakes ,and I then I saw smoke coming out of the hood. I quickly then got to the house and sprayed it down with the hose. I am in the process of figuring out what happened and the last that I heard was the main switch went out, which should have never happened. I am just thankful that nobody got hurt. (luckily it did not happen where there were people).
Front brake rotors pulsate. Brake effectiveness is failing. Stopping distances has increased. Rotors are starting to go every 14,000 miles. Dealer is aware. Please add more details.
While driving and with no warning brakes went out ,causing and accident. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.

When slamming on brakes abs braking system worked. However, when at a traffic stop and applied brakes, pedal went all the way to the floor. There were no holds, and he went though intersection. Dealership was aware of problem.
Brake rotors are warped. When applying brakes they will pulsate or flutter. Also, vehicle has extended stopping distance. Contacted dealer, and had to replace rotors.
Vehicle pulses while braking, and stoping distance has increased. Dealer has turned the front discs once, at app. 11000 miles, but the problem has since returned at app. 17000 miles. Something must be done to fix this annoying problem. There are too many complaints, of the same problem, by so many owners.
When applying brakes vehicle wobbles. Dealership is aware of problem. Rotors were replaced but the vehicle was wobblying again after 4,000 miles.
Brakes are out of round, and vehicle vibrates real hard. Hard to handle, and hard to stop. Dealer feels that consumer is hitting brakes too hard, and may be abusing them. Consumer went through this once before with rear brakes, and then with front brakes.
Front rotors are warping on a regular basis. Rotors were replaced at 18000/40000/47000/57000. Currently at 59000 miles, rotors need replacement again. Consumer states the front and rear brakes were replaced this time, vehicle has 68000 miles and it feels as if the front brakes are hanging up, there is a lot of brake dust on the rims and rotors, in the winter time the brakes would lock up and cause the vehicle to skid.
My Dodge Dakota sport 4x4 4. 7ltr v-8's brakes started sputtering and hopping at about 13000 miles. Since that time the problem has only gotten worse. I am currently at about 24000 miles. I have talked to several people where I work that have owned Dodge vehicles (99 and newer) and all of them have had the same problem. I researched this on the internet and found hundeds upon hundreds of people have this same problem. Using brakes that are defective on a vehicle is a major safety issue. How come Dodge has not yet recalled these brakes? how can so many people buy a brand new truck and have to replace the brake system within a year? this is very frustrating and dangerous for all the Dodge vehicle drivers throughout the world. Thank you, todd stack, federal law enforcement.
Abs system only works when pedal is applied very hard. When applied on ice front will lock up and rear will keep going. Vehicle taken to 2 dealerships, both stated this was normal for vehicle.
I took the vehicle into the dealer at 7000 miles for the rotors being gouged. The dealer said it was normal. Called customer service in michigan and they told the dealer to replace the rotors. One thousand miles later they are gouged again and squealing. Service advisor told me that brake system is under designed for vehicle weight and can't do anything for me. Please help. My brakes on other new Dodges didn't do this until 15 to 20k. Lots of excessive brake dust. Something must be wrong. Thanks.
Intermittently when brakes are applied pedal becomes hard, resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has inspected vehicle several times.
Right rear brakes grab/lock up intermittently while driving, the vehicle has been taken to the dealer on several occasions but the brakes continue to lock up. Nlm.
The right rear brakes locks up and release at low speeds, we tested (mechanic) the brakes and the abs didn't work at sometimes, but then again it work fine.
While traveling at 10 mph brakes locked up and vehicle started sliding, and touched the bumper of another car, when consumer applied brakes there was ajumping motion like brakes were trying to lock up.
Loss of control when braking at moderate speeds, see your consumer complaint database.
We purchased the vehicle 2/26/00 and had no apparent problems. Beginning in may it developed an intermittent brake pulsation. It progressed quickly to a very steady and violent shaking everytime we applied the brakes. On7/29/00 we were driving and saw traffic slowing ahead and began to slow as well, traffic then proceeded and we did as well. We were never closer than 8-10 car lengths. Traffic again slowed suddenly,we applied our brakes, they shook violently,we heard a squeal from the tires, and the brakes released,we then rear-ended the vehicle in front of us. . The dealer and all applicable parties were notified of the occurrence, the body shop did not notice anything obvious with the brake system. Once the body work was completed it was towed to ron tonkin Dodge wher daimler/Chrysler had arranged for an independent evaluation. They fond nothing in the computer and found nothing wrong with the brakes themselves(even the pulsation was gone). They released the vehicle to us. 3-4 days later the truck resumed the pulsation the same way it did originally. We waited 10 days from the evaluation and took it to the dealer to have them test drive the vehicle to verify the problem. Dave cordray the abs tech test drove the truck with me and felt the pulsation and said" thats not right". John geraci the sevice manager asked if it was safe and dave said if its his name on the repair order he wouldnt let us drive it. . We were given a rental car. 3 days later they called back and said the vehicle was fine and we could pick it up. John geraci explained that he drove the truck as well as the service advisor and said they felt a definite brake pulsation but they felt the same characteristic,to a much lesser degree, in the new vehicles they checked it against. John geraci checked with Chrysler and they determined it was safe and operating safely and normally. When asked for a written copy of our conversation concerning what all parties had felt on the test drive, john geraci said that Chrysler had said no.
While coming to a stop pedal went half way to the floor, and consumer could hear a ticking sound. Took to dealer, and dealer could't duplicate problem. The left rear wheel locked up and slided briefly while trying to stops.
When applying brakes abs braking systems was defective, and vehicle didn't stop. Rear wheels lock up during snow conditions but the dealer was unable to correct the problem.
Braking system fails to properly slow/stop vehicle when brake pedal is depressed. When brakes are applied vehicle is sluggish to slow down, and will impact an object in front if a hard stop is necessary. Dealership has examined vehicle and determined that brakes do not function properly, but a cause for this defect could not be determined.
At 6000 miles I had a jerk when applying the brakes, I got much worse as time went on. At 14000 miles I finally had the dealership replace the rotors because braking was very dangerous. Now at 30000 I once again have problems. I have to replace the rotors very soon again and I have a feeling that the rear drums are also warped. I also have a awful squeel coming from all 4 brakes. I work with 3 people that have 97 or newer and they all have the same problem.
When consumer applied brakes in gravel sand on street, front two tires will lock up, and rear wheels will not slide. Dealership was aware of problem. The consumer states that the dealer failed to properly fix the brakes and the problem still exists.
Abs braking system is defective causing the vehicle to shake. Dealer has changed front & back brakes, but vehicle is still having same problem. Please provide further details.
This is a case of poor braking quality, rotors were turned by dealer, but should have been replaced. Braking uneven once again.
This vehicle has a little more than 12,000 miles on it, and it has been at repair shop twice for warped rotors. Brake pedall goes to floor when brake pedal is pressed. On. Dealer has been contacted.
Brakes jumpy have been replaced/repaired 3 times, rotors replaced 2 (5,000 mi between replacement).
When traveling 15-20 mph and when pulling out a parking space on wet pavement, brake pedal went to the floorboard, causing extended stopping distance, and resulting in an accident. Consumer has contacted the dealer. Please provide any further details.
Intermittently when brakes are applied, the vehicle pulls to the right causing failure. Dealer has inspected the vehicle and claims that brakes pull because of road.
