2002 Dodge ram 1500 4. 7 engine defect defective cylinder heads, loss of oil pressure engine lock up with loss of power steering and power brakes I have found hundreds of reports of engine failure they most often start with a cylinder misfire and go from their.

2 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2009

Check engine light came on code says its related to a condenser fan and wiring harness problem there is a technical service bulletin out on it and dealer says it is not covered.

3 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

2002 Dodge ram 1500 quad cab has a surging problem at highway speed. The check engine light will come on and it is read as transmission fluid pressure sensor. This was replaced with a factory sensor and within 2 weeks it did it again. After 200 miles the light went out and the surging stopped only to start and stop repeatedly up to this date, 8/23/2010. How can a sensor repair itself? impossible! mileage at first check engine light was less than 100,000. Also dash is cracked to a completely unacceptable level for the age of the vehicle and mileage on dash at 138,000 with care taken to keep it clean and conditioned. Cracks began at 85,000 miles. Wipers when operating on high will lower speed and will continue to change from high to low intermittently unless they are turned off and turned back on several times. Do not consider this safe in any way. Intermittent wiper use with delay feature seems to be completely okay. Air conditioner will only blow cold air on driver's side and blows warm air on passenger side. After 45 minutes of a/c use, roaring sound issues from the vents and a gradual decrease in all air begins until only wisps of air escapes from driver side vents.

4 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2006

I have had several alarming failures with my Dodge Dakota quad cab. It is a 2002 v6 auto transmission pw pl. I have had the ball joints replaced because of the recall, my transmission has failed (twice), my front hubs & spindles completely disintegrated and could have killed my family, my water pump has failed and had to be replaced, the driver side taillight seems to fail often, the vacuum hoses have all had to be replaced because of the cheap rubber used by the manufacturer fail by cracking and causing all sorts of leaks causing engine lights, loud noises under the hood, and horrible gas mileage. I have done everything possible to be proactive in my maintenance of the vehicle. I have had the major repairs done professionally. I do not understand how a 2002 vehicle can have so many potentially fatal problems and be ignored. I have searched high and low for quality bulletins but cannot find anything. My gas mileage is now down to 14 mpg and the truck is falling apart.

5 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2004

Vehicle stalled. The manufacturer stated that they could not get the vehicle to repeat the problem. Manufacturer replaced the vehicle chip on four occasions, but it continued to stall.

6 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2002

I drove this pickup three times before running into a bad overheat problem. I was driving at a very slow speed because of traffic that day. My girlfriend and I were heading out for the weekend for some camping and fun when my brand new truck overheated on the freeway and spilled coolant all over the freeway. This problem ruined our whole weekend and my hopes of having a good reliable truck. Now I am having extreme difficulties in getting anyone in the customer service department to help with my problem about reporting to the manufacturer.
