1 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2001 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 12/12/2004

When needing to brake quickly, the brakes do not function. I assume it is an anti-lock brake malfunction, and have seen many complaints. This has happened numerous times, mostly during the need to brake quickly. I have always had a way to maneuver around the obstacle (car, pedestrian, etc. . ), but what will happen when the day comes that I don't have anywhere to go and a person gets hit, because of deimler-Chrysler's lack of morals to make right what they did wrong, and not recall this poor design. It does not feel good knowing that you put on your brakes, and you can't stop. . . Very helpless, and nervous. We need to do something about this now, to save a life. Hopefully this complaint along with the numerous others will raise a red flag, and something will be done.

2 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 08/17/2004

Anti-lock brake system. While driving along at aprox 40 mph with the windows up and air conditioning fan on high speed, I didn't hear an approaching fire truck as I neared an intersection. Upon entering the intersection, I was starteled by the loud blow of the fire truck's air horn and immediately slammed on the brakes. The anti-lock brakes system engage in a very perculiar manner! immediately upon feeling the brakes engage, the anti-lock brake system released the brakes and allowed my vehicle to coast forward nearly 20 yards before the brakes re-engaged bringing my vehicle to a halt. If it were not for the skillful driving of the fire truck's operators (both front and rear drivers) who swirved and steered around me, the outcome would have been disastrous (even fatal).

3 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2001 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 06/20/2004

Rotors warped at 25000 miles. Had dealer replace rotors with brembo rotors and pads with raybestos ceramic pads. Received from dealer after replacement- brakes dragged. Took back to dealer twice- finally, dealer discovered that abs system is non-functional. Dc paid for the parts to repair system- labor was my expense ( I had timed out of warranty). Dealer says that new pads are cracked from damage done after repair. Have to replace pads.

4 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 05/28/2004

At just 24000 miles my brakes were replaced because the front end would shimmy when stopping. Upon inspection, the rotors were gouged but there was plenty of wear left on the pads. Because of these faulty/poorly designed brakes I was involved in a mva when my brakes failed to stop me when attempting to slow down when approaching an intersection. I applied the brakes while only going 20mph (in the rain) but my anti-lock brakes locked up. When I first pressed on them there was no effect, when I pushed a little harder they locked. I released them and tried to stop again but they locked again and I slid into the car in front of me as there was no where to turn. My dealership was notified of brake problems prior to this but told me the brakes and rotors only last 25000miles. These brakes didn't work and this isn't the first time.

7 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1998 Dodge Dakota

While driving to work, both the abs and brake lights came on. Took the truck straight to a dealer and they found "no codes" in the computer. Have taken the truck to another dealer and they can't find anything wrong. Both dealers claimed to have throughly checked the brake system and found nothing wrong and it was not dangerous. I called chyrsler customer care and reported the problem. They told me "if it happens again, take it to the dealer". It is a daily occurance. If I were to take the truck to a dealer every time the lights came on, I would never be able to get to work. I checked the brakes the other day while the lights were on, and the abs system does not work!! the tires locked up without much effort. I was also told by the second dealers service manager, "even if the abs pump is not working properly, you still have old fashioned non-abs brakes". I am sorry, but that is the wrong answer.
