3 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 03/03/2024

After driving on the interstate highway for a couple hours from phoenix, arizona I noticed that the left turn signal started malfunctioning, and the right signal flashed instead. After several hours of driving, noticed that sometimes the right signal only flashed 3 or 4 times when turning on the right indicator. I also noticed that the emergency flashers would usually blink once or twice left, then switch to right only. While stopped, I verified that the right front and rear turn signals were actually blinking as indicated on the dash. The next day however the problem was gone. I drove the car on the interstate again for several hours, without any issues.

1 safety recall found, reprogram pcm and inspect catalytic converter. I never got a recall notice in the mail just happen to go on line and find it. My engine light, anti -brake light and emergency light stays on. My speedometer and odometer quit working. I took my truck to the Dodge dealership and they said the parts are discontinued and they cannot get them but they did do a inspection and said everything was ok. I still have the same problems and I am concerned about my safety and the safety of others involved while I am driving my truck.

6 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 08/30/2022

While driving my 2004 Dodge Dakota all the gauges, including the speedometer and the tachometer stopped working. Everything went off although the truck was still running. I had headlights turn signals an emergency flashers nothing else. I don’t know how fast I was going how much fuel I had or if my engine was running hot nothing. This is something that could spook a driver to a point where he/she would be distracted of their surroundings. Possibly causing a serious crash and hurting or killing someone.

7 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 03/09/2022

*incomplete recall status* ***defect in transfer case*** complaint of manufacturer defect in 2005 Dodge Dakota quad cab 4x4 3. 7l v6. While driving at a speed of 30mph on a smooth paved highway and selector switch turned to 2 wheel drive mode; out of nowhere, the transfer case tried to engage 4 high which resulted in svc 4x4 warning lamp illumination and a loud grinding/stuttering sound from under carriage as well as halting me to 10 mph without any help from me. After pulling over on the roadside and putting truck in park and turning the engine off, I waited a couple of minutes and svc 4x4 indicator and 4high dash light had gone. I restarted the truck only to find that the svc 4x4 warning lamp immediately returned and now the 4lo illuminated dash light is constantly showing and truck is still showing in 2 wheel drive with selector switch but 4x4 will not engage at all now. Took to a mechanic shop 1/2 mile down the road and had it read for any dtcs and inspected. Code came back as c1404. Transfer case still tries to engage as soon as truck door is opened and dome light comes on. Svc 4x4 warning indicator stays on the dash lit up and 4lo warning light flashes non stop. Manufacturers communication letter has been sent to dealerships for the proper installation steps of the transfer case on the model of my truck due to improper positioning. I have noticed no recall but have found a campaign id listed for this issue. I've owned this truck for only days now with the intention of presenting it to daughter for her 16th birthday next month and now there's a big concern here for safety and the fact that a recall hasn't been issued is crazy! . . . . It's completely absurd and should be escalated immediately until a consumer resolution is made. This truck is not safe at all with this defect by manufacturer transfer case! I am demanding that this faulty part be investigated and taken considerable responsibility for just for the amount of time allowed to pass!!.

Failure Date: 09/19/2020

It is constantly overheating throwing off more codes. Passager airbag also keep turning off. Also well driving the car jerks back?.

11 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 06/11/2020

I have had electrical issues since last year. First time the wipers, lights and blinkers quit working late in the evening, almost didnt make it to the auto shop. Told me the computer was the issue but they got the truck working again. Then it happened again but I knew to try the disconnect the battery trick and that worked. Yesterday I was in line to pick up a food box, idling and the truck just quit, I tried to get it to restart with no luck. Thankfully this did not happen while I was actually driving so I was safe where it happened. I got it towed and am pretty sure it is the tipm based on the steps I took, switching out the working relays with the one for the fuel pump. Still wouldnt start so pretty sure it is a bad tipm.

12 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 04/25/2020

1. While sitting in park on a automatic transmission. In a still position rolled front or back more than a couple inches. Had to step on brake while in park and had to block wheels when engine was off to keep from rolling. Emergency brake does not hold or work properly either. 2. The heater has only high position working now. The dash gets to hot to even keep heat on very long. Fuel cap with key. When getting fuel truck has to be turned off before pumping otherwise engine light comes on the dash and needs to be reset or driven miles before engine lightor goes back off. 3. The upper ball joints had to replace twice now. Breaks had to replace twice also due to suspension being out of whack and problem above. Now there is noise in front driver side wheel area. 4. Put all new break lines on it because they kept blowing out. Leaking in different locations by too much pressure build up in sections of lines. 5. I bought it in 2018 used from a dealer. But I have put so much work on it that now there's a transmission problem. 6. Having no or little breaks all of sudden in a crowded intersection or having to block wheels so it doesn't roll into another car but no accident yet but could happen.

13 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 03/03/2020

The gauges would stop working. Seems there was no communication cmt and I had the emc checked and it was fine. It only costs $90 to have it checked out. Seems there are a number of complaints in regard to this failure.

14 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 01/02/2020

This 2001 Dodge Dakota comes up with code p0601 it says it is a memory check sum error. It comes on intermittent in cold weather. If you clear the code it might come right back or it might stay off it is annoying sometimes it messes with the abs making the front right brake hang up.

15 Electrical System problem of the 1999 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 09/23/2019

Often when I start my truck the oil pressure gauge will go all the way up, the gauge for the battery stays down, and when it does start, the serpentine belt will squeal, sometimes it will start and idle, other times it will not idle, unless I keep my foot on the gas, as soon as I take my foot off the gas it will stall, after about 15 minutes, everything will go back to normal and it runs fine, but lately, its been doing it more often, when it does this, there is a foul smell coming out of the exhaust. I have had it scanned and no codes came up on the scanner. I do not have a lot of money, so if there is a recall please let me know how a recall works. This has happened several times, but the last time was 9/23/2019, when I started it today, it ran fine.

Resistor and wires replaced numerous times. Same results. Front ball joints keep going bad causing dangerous driving conditions. Many resistor and ball joint complanta all over the internet. I fear someone will die if the 2 issues are not resolved.

18 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 05/22/2019

Risk of fire by wrong sized fused in power outlet. I almost burn the truck charging a drone (57w charger) parking and left alone for about 20 minutes, when I back the cabin was filled with smoke. First I think in the lithium batteries catching fire, but no, the smoke comes from behind the dash. Quickly I removed the 20a fuse and left like this. I ordered the replacement outlet and today when I was to change I found the wires complete melted. Check the service manual and shows a 18awg wire protected whit 20a fuse. Probably a inherited from some old Dodge ram which one have a 20a fuse and 14awg wire. Checking some news models and have 18awg too, so it could be more vehicles in potential risk of fire. The user manual, printed, digital online, the fuse box cover, service manual, everywhere says 20a fuse for a thin 18awg wire.

19 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

Vehicle goes in and out of 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel lo on it's own, whether the vehicle is running or not and moving or not. There have been times when I open the door, not unlock, just open, and you can hear the transfer case shifting . Sometime "service 4 wheel drive" light comes on, other times just 4 wheel indicator and other times no light at all. Though it is a 2005, I only have 80k on it. This has been going on for about 6 months now.

20 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 02/18/2019

My engine turns off while driving. I cannot restart the engine until I have stopped, shifted to park, and cycled the ignition to off. The engine stalling started as a low/slow idle condition, and now has escalated to cutting off at full acceleration while merging into expressway traffic. This has happened on several dates. I am selecting the date of my last remembered occasion.

23 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 10/09/2018

Lost exterior lights (parking lights, license plate light, tail lights, and instrument panel lights) while driving. Headlights, turn lights, and brake lights functioning. Ctm was diagnosed and replaced to correct the issue, however safety concerns caused the vehicle to be unused in low light conditions until problem diagnosed. Repetitive postings about this models ctm failures all over the internet and adjoining safety consideration with only a limited recall, which did not include my vehicle. No after market parts were found and replaced with a item for a local junk yard which may simply fail again.

24 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 09/09/2018

Approximately two weeks ago from this complaint, while driving the aforementioned vehicle (2005 Dodge Dakota) during normal, summer time road conditions, writer noticed that the "svc 4wd" warning indicator light illuminated. Light remained illuminated for approximately 3 miles before turning off. Light didn't illuminate again until Sunday, 09/09/2018. When unlocking the vehicle using the vehicle's remote unlock on the key, writer noticed a sound that sounded like the vehicle engaging the four wheel drive mechanisms. Writer started the vehicle, noted that the vehicle was not in four wheel drive, and the service light was not illuminated. During the course of this week, the service light has intermittently illuminated on occasion, remaining on for a short period of time, then turns off. Today, 09/14/2018, when leaving my work for an errand, I noted that the "svc 4wd" light was illuminated immediately after starting the vehicle. Writer noted that the vehicle was also, in fact, in four wheel drive, as the vehicle was "skipping" the tires while turning and exhibiting signs of a vehicle in 4 wheel drive while driving on dry pavement. Writer noted that the "4wd control knob" was in the 2wd position. Writer parked the vehicle and made several attempts, while both in park and neutral, to engage the 4wd and disengage using the 4wd control knob. None of these actions were able to disengage the transfer case. Writer drove the vehicle to my destination, (approximately 3 miles), noting upon my arrival that the service light was no longer illuminated and the vehicle was not in four wheel drive any longer. Writer also notes electrical symptoms such as vehicle now honks after locking with the remote lock on the key. Complaint is concerning spontaneous engagement of the four wheel drive mechanism, without cause, possibly related to defects associated with the tipm.

25 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 08/09/2018

The fan in my truck randomly shuts off so in turn, my ac does not work nor does the heat when this occurs. This happens every three months.
