Dodge Dakota owners have reported 3 problems related to steering rack (under the steering category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The vehicle's steering rack failed resulting in noise while steering. The vehicle was originally taken to the dealer to have the ball joint recall done. The consumer informed the dealer of a creaking noise in the steering and was informed that the noise was a symptom of the recalled ball joints. When the vehicle was finally taken to the dealer they indicated that the steering rack was faulty and causing the noise in the steering wheel. The consumer had to pay $1000. To have the steering rack replaced. The consumer believes this part should have been covered under the recall for the ball joints.

This vehicle was purched used with less then 30,000 miles at the time I noticed a shimmy in the right front wheel, took it back to the dealer and was told there was nothing wrong with it. The wheels now have an excessive shimmy and grinding when making a right turn. The shimmy can be felt in the steering wheel as well as noticed from the outside when the truck is moving. Have taken it back to the dealer and told that this is something that Dodge is aware of and has done nothing to fix the problem, as the service machanic said its just Dodge, then he went on to say he wouldn't own a Dodge Dakota and he services them!!!.
