Dodge Dakota owners have reported 9 problems related to transmission not go into gear (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving to work yesterday morning driving around 60mph, my wife stated the transmission of our 2007 Dodge Dakota suddenly down-shifted and would not shift out of gear, she could not travel past 55 mph. The truck made a loud noise and she noticed the rpm reaching just over 4500. She pulled over, turned the truck off then re-started. The truck still would not shift. The truck only has 36,000 miles. Truck is at the used car dealership getting checked out and the mechanic stated he could not duplicate the problem.

I purchased a 2007 used Dodge Dakota still under factory basic warranty. The test drive was fine and we did not hear any noise coming from the transmission while the windows were up. We took the vehicle home and I had turned off the radio and rolled down the window to put the truck in reverse and all of a sudden I experienced a loud bang, and grind noise. I thought nothing of it and the next day I heard the same but then also the automatic transmission would not go into gear right away and started hesitating while going form park to reverse and vise versa (reverse to park). I took the truck to the Dodge dealer and they said it was common form the transmission to do that and did not bother to run a diagnostic on the truck. They just put the car through its gears and heard the noises and experienced the hesitation in the transmission and said it was normal. The truck has 16,500 miles on it and is a 2007 model. I wanted to register this complaint because I feel the problem is going to get worse and could put someone's life in danger if the transmission delay and hesitation become more pronounced and the Dodge dealer continues to says that the automatic transmission delay and hesitation is normal.

I was driving in rush hour traffic. Traffic had stopped and when it started moving again, the vehicle would not go into gear. There was no grinding. There was nothing. It was like there were no gears there at all.

While driving vehicle, the transmission would miss a gear when trying to shift into 2nd gear. This caused the engine to rev up. While on a hill, the engine would rev up when transmission fails to shift properly. Then it would not shift out of gear. This had happened to the first transmission. Ts.
While accelerating transmission will not shift into gear. The driver has to deaccelerate and then accelerated . Dealer has repaired/replaced the transmission twice.
