Equipment Problems of Dodge Dart - part 1

I purchased the car used approximately 3 years ago, and the vehicle has experienced intermittent loss-of-propulsion and transmission/gear-engagement problems since then thru today. Getting worse. While driving, the vehicle has repeatedly and unexpectedly lost propulsion and behaved as though the transmission shifted into neutral. The engine can remain running, but pressing the accelerator does not result in normal forward propulsion. The vehicle has also intermittently refused to engage a gear. This creates a serious safety risk because the vehicle can unexpectedly lose its ability to accelerate or maintain propulsion while in traffic. The problem is intermittent and unpredictable. The vehicle's records indicate that a previous transmission shift cable bushing recall repair was performed before I purchased the vehicle. Despite that repair being recorded, I have continued to experience these symptoms. Before the recall issue was later raised again, I took the vehicle to an independent mechanic because of these problems. The mechanic advised me that the symptoms appeared related to the previous recall issue and that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. Because of the safety concern, I stopped driving the vehicle for extended periods and rented another vehicle. I later had the Dodge Dart towed to an authorized Dodge dealership for inspection rather than driving it there. I explained the problems I was experiencing. The dealership inspected the vehicle and charged me approximately $200 but reported that it could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. The intermittent symptoms continued afterward. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. I am concerned that the vehicle continues to experience loss of propulsion, unexpected neutral-like behavior, and intermittent failure to engage a gear despite records indicating that the earlier recall repair was completed. I've spent thousands on rental cars to keep my family safe. No help from dealer.

Pulling back in to drive way, car wouldn't go into park and just cut off. Took it to randy marion Dodge of salisbury of nc, and they're saying its the recall but there is not parts available to fix it because Dodge hasn't released the parts. This my only car I have to have to means of transportation to get back in forth to work. Meanwhile Dodge said they could fix it, but its going to cost me $920. Dodge should be to ones paying for this. They also want release a loaner car or a rental provision. How is this right??????????.

On July 24th 2026, while operating my 2015 Dodge Dart, I was backing up in reverse and attempted to shift the vehicle into park. During this normal shifting process, the transmission shift cable failed/broke, causing the vehicle to become stuck in reverse and preventing me from safely shifting the vehicle into park or another gear. The failed component is the transmission shift cable, which is the same component involved in the current safety recall for this vehicle. The failed part is available for inspection upon request and is currently with the dealership. This failure created a serious safety risk because the vehicle could not be placed into park and remained stuck in reverse. A vehicle that cannot properly shift gears creates a risk of unintended vehicle movement, inability to secure the vehicle when parked, and potential danger to the driver, passengers, and others nearby. The problem was confirmed by the Dodge dealership after inspection. The dealer verified that the shift cable had failed and that the issue involved the recalled component. The vehicle is currently at the dealership awaiting repair. There were no warning lights, dashboard messages, or other noticeable symptoms before the failure. The shift cable broke suddenly while I was attempting to shift from reverse into park during normal vehicle operation. The failure happened without warning and left me without a usable vehicle.

I contacted a dealership to get my recalls (25v-674, u90, and w20) fix and I spoke with eric at the dealership and he told me they can’t fix it because I have a salvaged title and they don’t work on salvaged cars.

My car was stuck in drive. It would not shift into park. My father had to use the emergency switch under the hood to put it in park. A local dealership was contacted and parts have been ordered to fix the problem. The car has not been inspected. There were no warnings. I did not receive a recall notice in the mail.

When I got in my car to leave work, the shifter cable had broken. It would not shift to reverse, neutral, or drive. I was left stranded in the middle of the night with no one to pick me up. Also, if it had broken while I was driving I wouldn’t have been able to put it in park and it would have potentially rolled into another car or person. At this time it has been 6 months since the recall and Dodge has no remedy for it. The dealership looked at it and did confirm that the shifter cable had broken.

The vehicle's shifter cable brushing was what was originally recalled. The dealership I visited informed me that the vehicle still has concerns about not being able to recognize when the car is in park. This means the vehicle is still unsafe to drive and a remedy has not yet been released for this. The dealership in question was sky Dodge in provo ut.

The transmission shift cable on the vehicle may fail to maintain its connection to the transmission. According to the manufacturer’s safety notice, this defect results in an unexpected and unrecoverable loss of park function. The manufacturer has acknowledged that this condition can lead to unintended vehicle movement in an unintended direction, even when the shifter indicates the vehicle is in "park. " this creates an immediate risk of a vehicle crash without prior warning and poses a severe threat of injury to the driver, passengers, and bystanders outside the vehicle. The manufacturer issued the safety notice on March 8, 2026, but stated that a remedy is "not currently available. " as of may 12, 2026 (over 60 days later), the manufacturer has failed to provide a timeline for the repair, failed to respond to formal written inquiries regarding a safety remedy, and has not provided interim safety measures or alternative transportation. The vehicle remains an active safety hazard that cannot be safely parked or operated.

I am reporting a serious safety concern involving a 2016 Dodge Dart gt (VIN: [xxx] ). The selling dealership represented the vehicle as accident?free and undamaged, but after delivery I discovered significant, undisclosed front?end and structural issues. The affected components include the front bumper, radiator support area, subframe, suspension, brakes, and cooling system. These components are available for inspection. My safety was put at risk because the vehicle shows clear evidence of prior impact and improper or incomplete repairs. A mechanic’s inspection documented a salvage?yard front subframe installed for unknown reasons, a leaking lower radiator hose, rusted struts and shocks, suspension bushings beginning to fail, a bent left?rear lower control arm, and brakes that “feel like they don’t want to stop the vehicle,” possibly due to rusted rotors and pads. The mechanic also noted alarming rust inside the frame and stated that the rust alone would justify returning the vehicle. All four tires show high/low spots consistent with belt separation, creating a wobble at speed. These conditions create multiple safety hazards: compromised crash protection, potential airbag sensor misalignment from prior front?end impact, cooling?system failure risk, loss of braking ability, suspension instability, and possible loss of control due to tire belt separation. The carfax also shows a radiator replacement shortly before sale, strongly suggesting a front?end collision that was not disclosed. The problem was confirmed by an independent service center. The manufacturer, police, and insurance have not yet inspected the vehicle. No warning lamps appeared prior to discovering these issues; the defects were concealed and unknown to me at purchase. I unknowingly operated a vehicle with compromised structural integrity and multiple safety?critical defects, placing me and other drivers at risk. I received a safety recall on my vehicle in October, and it is now almost February and there is still no remedy. This safety recall is the transmission shift cable a0c. The recall states: "this can cause an unexpected and unrecoverable loss of park function and/or vehicle movement in an unintended direction which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning and/or injury to others outside the vehicle. " this is putting myself and others at risk. The dealership has confirmed the issue and has no remedy. They informed me to wait for the remedy. My vehicle has been developing the symptoms of this recall for about 3 years. The key gets stuck in the ignition, the car does not go into or out of park easily, it sticks. After I park my car rolls backwards. My vehicle does not feel like its in park. The shifter has become stiff and does not want to move. The form says " do not drive" on mopars official recall. I do not feel safe driving this car.

I will be driving and there’s a click and suddenly no power just goes dead.

When I want to turn off my car, the key gets stuck in acc and does not turn to off. The key wont turn all the way off gets stuck, even though I am in parking. I saw that their is a recall for this and their is no answer for this yet or remedy I mean. But it has been happening to my car every single day, every single time I drive and I am very scared for my safety. Especially when having kids or other people in the car with me.

The transmission shift cable detached from the transmission, causing the gear shifter to move freely without actually changing gears. When this happened, the vehicle could not be shifted into park or drive and became unsafe to operate. This created a serious safety risk because the car could roll or move unexpectedly even when the shifter was in park. The vehicle is affected by recall a0c / NHTSA 25v-674 for this exact issue. The failure has not yet been repaired because local dealers have been unresponsive. The problem can be reproduced by simply moving the shifter, as the cable will disconnect again. No warning lights appeared before the failure. The issue was visually confirmed by observing the detached cable under the hood.

The shifter cable on my car has completely worn out so the gear box no longer shifts correctly. I took it to my local dealership, watsonville Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram, in watsonville California and they said the remedy is not yet available. They also are trying to charge me $800 something dollars for a “temporary fix” and I can maybe apply for reimbursement.

Unknown. When trying to switch gears from reverse to drive, the gear got stuck in neutral. My gear shift is able to move when pressing on the brake as it is intended to do. However, the actual gear does not change and on the dashboard and the light display from the gear shift still shows "n" for neutral. My brake lights are still working and the solenoid still clicks when pressing on brake. I was able to shift gears manually from underneath the hood. I did a complete complete reset and still the gears do not change. My e-brake is on and the car has not moved due to not being able to shift gears. This has never happened before and there have been no problems with my steering wheel, brakes or gear shift before. There were/are no warning messages or displays. Even though, there is a recall, dealerships have told me that there is nothing wrong with my car and there are no recalls at all. I am currently looking for a mobile mechanic since my car is unable to move. My car has not been seen yet.

My car had a recall which was repaired with a previous owner in 2020 an the defeat is still active an the dealership is refusing to honor the service due to it being done I am currently homeless an currently rely on my car for basic transportation my car is stuck in reverse the key is stuck in the ignition an the power is draining in my batters causing more issues due to the issues related to the call that was repaired an now refract is still active.

Shifting shaft linkage shaft bushing shaft stuck in park won’t shift anymore shaft moves but won’t come out of park.

The transmission and powertrain were inspected due to concerns about the car possibly jolting in a different direction and causing an accident. The issue has been confirmed by the dealer, and the vehicle has been inspected by both the dealer and a mechanic. The car does indeed jolt unexpectedly.

I was driving my vehicle, 2015 Dodge Dart to get a regular oil change service back on xxx. The oil change service hub was only 10 minutes or so from my home. Upon arriving to the oil change location([xxx]), I was about to turn into the intersection when my vehicle had started to shake abruptly & my steering wheel started to wiggle left & right. It was very difficult to control my vehicle while turning with on going traffic coming my way. I was able to turn & safely park my vehicle. After the oil change my vehicle was able to be safely driven back to my apartment home. My vehicle has been parked in the same spot since this day & this day was the first time I had experienced this issue. The issue does flare up sometimes when I move my vehicle parking spots to avoid tow. I have contacted the Dodge dealership by my home via phone call & also via email in which I am regularly advised to check back again with in the following month as the parts or remedy is unavailable. Thankfully I have been able to manage my transportation priorities for work and other events for the past year this has been going on for. Recently it has added a descent amount of stress on everyday living & also putting a strain on expenses due to uber & rental reservations for transportation. Recall number a0c and NHTSA recall number 25v-674 has yet been addressed by the dealer or manufacturer. I contacted the dealership back in October of 2025 when learning about the recall at which time I was told there was no remedy as of yet. We are now in April of 2026 and there remains no remedy for a recall that imposes a risk of losing control of the vehicle's movement which ultimately will and can lead to a crash.

Open recall for transmission shift cable failure since October 9, 2025 with no available fix/parts yet. This is my 20 year old's vehicle and we feel this is extremely unsafe and are requesting a manufacturer buy-back immediately.

My shifter cable snapped while driving home from work. Found out about the recall trying to get it fixed.

I received a letter notification of this recall a0c/NHTSA 25v-674, which applies to my vehicle. Dodge stated that the remedy for this condition is not currently available. The vehicle has not been inspected after the recall was issued. There were no warnings, messages or any symptoms.

There was a safely recall sent on oct 9, 2025 and there’s no remedy by manufacturer and I am unsure of what to do now ?.

Shifter cable was replaced for recall in February of 2025 and it’s messed up again. .

I was at a intersection when the incident occurred. I was unable to shift it into gear. I was able to roll it into the gas station at the intersection. Bushing on tension rod disintegrated. Causing the transmission to be stuck in neutral.

2nd recall on my Dodge Dart sxt for the same reason transmission shift cable on this time been waiting 7 months and still hasn't been fixed I'm scared for my safety at this point!.

I had the recall for the transmission bushing shifter cable fixed at greenway Dodge. Clearly still a defective piece. It broke again… they’re trying to charge me $850+ to fix it again. I can’t afford that for this car that’s been nothing but a lemon. Why should I have to pay for a repeatedly defective part? it’s wrong.

On 9/25/2025, I was on my way home from the grocery store, stopped off in a different section of my condo complex to check the mail. I attempted to place the car in park. The handle moved forward but the gears did not shift. I still had my foot on the brakes and put on my the emergency brakes on. I contacted aaa, paid the $100 so aaa could tow the car in front of my property. It was still very hot outside and I did not want the food I just brought to spoil so I took most of the perishable food that I could carry to my home. Once I put all the food away in the fridge the porter knocked on my door telling me that I could not leave my car near the mailboxes. I let him know I had already contacted aaa and was waiting for them to arrive. Well the porter immediately had my car towed before aaa could get there. My car was towed and is still in the tow company’s possession.

Shift gear assembly failure.

This complaint is in regard to the most recent recall on Dodge Darts, the transmission shifter cable detachment. I was in the process of parking my car on an incline. All was normal. I had been out running errands, driving, and shifting for a few hours. The gear shift felt disconnected from anything; there was no effort required to move it back and forth in the shift. The car was not recognizing any movement I was making with the gear shift, and would not lock into place for any gear. I had to hold my foot on the brake even while "shifted" into park; otherwise, I would drift backwards into the car behind me, and potentially into a ditch/creek. I had to call for help to stabilize my car, with bricks behind the tires and a 25-pound weight left on the brake so I could exit the vehicle. We had to lift and open the gear shift to the compartment underneath and manually shift the car into park. During this, we unfortunately broke something under the gear shift. This happened on a Sunday evening (July 20), so no repair person was available to help me. Chrysler refused to offer any assistance or information about the last recall of this issue, and advised me to call the dealership that did the repair (they would not tell me which one I went to, just that it was marked complete in 2019). I know I went to a shorkey location, but not which. I called three jim shorkey Dodge locations in pittsburgh, and they all refused responsibility. I was told to call Chrysler again. I did not, because why would I? a local mechanic was able to acquire the part from Dodge to "fix" the issue. However, he had to override the safety mechanism that causes the car to recognize what gear the car is in before it can turn off. So now I have to drive around, hoping I don't accidentally press the power button and shut off my car on the road. The car was inspected by a representative from progressive. They determined a mechanical failure and denied my claim for coverage. This is bs.

Today, 7-12-25, I tried to place my 2016 Dodge Dart in park. The car would not go into park, and I could not get the key out after trying to turn it off. The shifter would not go into drive, and was stuck in reverse. I had the car repaired for a recall on the shifter cable bushing at my local Dodge dealer a few years back, and now it's doing the same thing it was prior to the recall. Car is now stuck in a parking lot.
