14 problems related to front seat power adjust have been reported for the 1998 Dodge Durango. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The drivers side power seat moves backwards about 2 inches when I accelerate and comes forward the same amount when I brake. I purchased the vehicle used and the previous owner said it has always been that way. After researching online I have found hundreds of cases of the same thing. A recall is in order here as not only does this malfunction affect the safety of driver and passengers, it will only get worse as the movement will eventually cause the entire thing to fail.
While accelerating, heard a "snap" under the drivers seat. This power seat now has a rocking motion when accelerating or slowing down. Checked the internet and found countless number of blogs and comments on this exact problem, with some saying their seat is actually sliding back and forth on the seat rails. This is a known problem and I cannot believe that this is not a safety issue, warranting some recall or remedy by Chrysler. If this seat can slide free in a hard acceleration or emergency stop, this could create accident or severe injury. This has not been addressed by the manufacturer !.
I just purchased a 1998 Dodge Durango with 116,000 miles. When I drove it off the dealer's lot I noticed the drivers power seat travels at least an inch back and forth when accelerating or decelerating. The dealer says this is normal for this model. The travel interferes with braking. Online research indicates this is a common problem. Dodge indicate the problem is a failure caused by cracks in the seat track. Shouldn't the seat track be expected to last as last as the vehicle?.

1998 Dodge Durango slt drivers power seat rocking and tilting due to faulty power seat track.
The driver seat broke while I was in the car. I leaned back to adjust my coat and seat belt and the seat broke off its mounting to the floor of the vehicle. It rocked violently backward. I momentarily lost control of the vehicle. Had I been in traffic this could have led to an accident.
Drivers power seat is rocking back and forth. There was no event leading up to the failure. One day I got in the car and it was rocking. Vehicle has not been in an accident and from research I have done it seems that many other 1998 Dodge Durango owners are also affected. This defective component is costing Durango owners between $500-$600 to replace. If this seat issue isn't addressed, it can cost Dodge Durango owners their lives if these "cheap" seats let loose during a collision. I am calling Chrysler customer care to report problem.
Drivers power seat uses plastic nuts that have both broken requiring me to by a new seat for $500. The nuts are used to change the level of the seat cushion and after the nut broke the seat reclines back when I excellerate making it difficult to drive as you can imagine.

1998 Dodge Durango (purchased new) drivers power seat slides up to 1+ inches backward and forward when applying brakes or accelerating. Problem began several years ago, thought it was an isolated issue to my vehicle, however, upon reviewing other owners' online comments it appears that there may be hundreds or more with this serious safety defect. When driving, if you do not hold onto the steering wheel 'tightly' you slide 'back and forth' to the point of it affecting both braking and acceleration control of the vehicle. This is only one of many website locations that has been describing this serious problem since year 2002 or before. . Read more...
I would like to report 2 safty defects with my 1998 Dodge Durango. First is the poor quality wheel studs. During various tire rotations at a qualified service center, six studs have broken (twice at the dealer). I'm really worried that at some point a wheel may come off while I'm driving. Second, the drivers power adjust seat rocks back and forth during braking & acceleration. This is annoying and I'm afraid that eventually, it's going to break all the way loose.
While driving 65 mph noticed that driver's seat was rocking back and forth. Vehicle at dealer at this time.
Driver's side seat is fastened to an electrical motor with a three inch piece of plastic. Plastic piece had snapped in half which has caused seat to back away from seat frame while driving. This has caused seat to fully collapse. Consumer has contacted dealer. Please provide any further details.
