My 1999 Dodge Durango dies while driving without warning. This happens everytime I drive and multiple times while driving. I have replaced the pcm (per Dodge) and it hasn't changed how the SUV runs!!.
Same as all the others, my Dodge Durango gets hot then shuts down. As it stalls, if you look at the digital odometer it will read "no bus" and the digital thermostat reads 141 degrees. After sitting anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes it restarts and runs fine for a while before doing it again. After much research I found it was the computer needed to be replaced. There's a company out in florida that will send you a remanufactured one for about $500 and it's 4 bolts to change out. Come on Dodge, why can't you fix this mess?????.
You go down the road doesn't mater how fast or slow you go just shots down put 2 pcm in does the same than shut down and say no bus had to pay a shop to say the pcm was no good to send it back to get a no one.
1999 Dodge Durango. Stall out while driving for no reason! look at some of these websites. . . . Read more...
There was no warning signs leading up to the problem. My 99 Dodge Durango has shut down on me twice in the past week or so. I have been to many websites and heard from many that this is a common problem with this car. No one really knows what is wrong. I have heard that the ecu is too close to the engine's heat and causes it or the wires to short out especially in the summer heat. One it shuts off it will start again but it seems it needs a bit to cool down. I have not done anything to fix it yet cause I hear there is no solution. I have purchased some heat shielding tape and sheets to put around it but have not received them in the mail so have not tried it yet.
Driving the vehicle and it shuts off without warning. I have replaced the pcm. After a short period of time the vehicle will restart and go a couple of miles and shut off again with out warning.
The pcm/ecu fails giving the no bus signal on odometer while driving the truck shuts down and losing power steering making it hard to steer and loss of vacuum making it almost impossible to stop.
Recently I have been having issues with my 1999 Dodge Durango losing all power. The odometer ready "no bus" and nothing in the truck works, not even the brakes. I did some research online and found out that this is a common problem with the Durango. I also found out that it's due to the location of the truck's computer. It is extremely close to the engine and with the increased heat during the summer, the combination is too much for the computer to handle so it shuts down. The best reference of this I read was "the brain stop talking to the body" that indicates how serious this is. I haven't done anything to fix the issue because it was manufactured this way and I'm unsure if the computer can be moved without causing other problems. This has happened to me at least 10 times. All occurrences were days it was hot outside. At least 90 degrees. This problem is so dangerous. I was on the highway when it happened the first time, and had no clue what to do. I know now to let it cool off, but I would like to be able to drive my truck when I need to! this is a very serious problem. I'm sure that someone has been killed or injured as a result of this.
1999 Dodge Durango. Truck has been stalling and dying for over a year now, with no warning. The vehicle will shut down causing you to lose power brake + steering. I've changed all sensors. Plugs, wires etc, and still stalls. No mechanic or dealer can re-create the problem and Dodge has no record of this problem being an issue, I'm the first! ha!.
Dodge Durango 1999 engine just dies while driving gauges drop engine stalls, then hold on and pray that nobody hits you, I have had the pcm replaced at the dealer $850. 00 only for it to start the same problem 5 weeks later, I have taken it back to the dealer they say it shows no error and without it being down they are unable to test any further. This is very dangerous. I have spent over $1300. 00 and many hours on the side of the road. This needs to be addressed by Dodge! I have been lucky to avoid numerous accidents.
Truck shuts off and looses all power when the computer gets too hot. Either driving 70 mph on freeway or just idling very unsafe when you loose all power and cant stop or steer. Truck will not start till the ecm cools off then will happen 10 minutes down the road again.
I have a 1999 Dodge Durango and as almost everyone else my pcm failed and the second one is failing now just one year later! Dodge dealers here all knew about the problem so one would assume Dodge knows. The placement of the pcm on the passenger front fender gathers exes heat off the manifold which causes it to fail. This problem not only cost way to much to repair, it is a dangerous situation, while driving when the pcm fails the vehicle shuts off dead. A loss of power steering and breaks is a terrifying experience on a vehicle that is as large as this one. With all the complaints filled on this vehicle something need done!.
I have a 1999 Dodge Durango 5. 9l v8 with 173,000 miles on it. I bought it from a private seller and two weeks later I was driving down the road and the car just stalls and reads no bus on speed odometer , then I found out if I wiggle the left black computer plug for a few min it starts back up like nothing happened. Then I searched google and found pages and pages about this problem stalling. I had the car for two months now and took it to the shop and no one can find how to fix this problem.
My 1999 Dodge Durango turns off anytime the temperature gets above 85f. This happens in stop and go traffic and even driving at 70 mph. When this happens you loose all control of the car. I have replaced the pcm but it still keeps happening. One day someone will rear end me and my children.
The Dodge Durango 1999, stalls completely with no warning or reason. After a brief period of time (5 minutes) it runs again. There is no apparent problem when scanned or is serviced. The imminent danger is that when it stalls everything locks and if you are driving on a highway it is potential risk to the driver and the passengers.
Engine cuts off when cpu gets hot, you can wait a few minutes & engine will start & other times not. A lot of people online have had this same problem. Most of them have to get a new cpu, but looks like the problem will come back. The computer gets very very hot where it is located under the hood.
1999 Dodge Durango 5. 2 shut down without warning.
I have a Dodge Durango 1999 it keeps on dying for no reason sometimes it starts back up in 15 minutes or so but there are times when it doesn't start at all until the next day, I change the GS pump three different sensors more than once each took it to different shops they always change the same things it shows that is on empty (no gas) when it does have gas it also shows the no bus light im frustrate it I I've spend so much money on it and I depend on it to get me and my 7 month old baby around the problem started about 6 months ago please help. Dodge really needs to do something about this because this is a big problem that hasn't happened to one or two people there are hundreds out there plus the ones that haven't said anything.
I purchased a 1999 Dodge Durango and the vehicle shuts off when driving without notice. It is unsafe and dangerous. This happens everytime the vehicle is driven. I have invested thousands of dollars to fix and not even the dealer can fix. I have replaced the pcm, sensors, fuel pump to no avail. The vehicle is just sitting in my driveway, I cant do anything with it.
I have a 1999 Dodge Durango and I have done research over the vehicle and alot of people are having the same problem it randomly shuts off in the middle of the road and is very very dangerous mine shuts of no less then 7 times from home to the store which is right down the road and I have to drive it I have nothing else and I cant afford to pay hundreds of dollars to have it fix I feel many more people are in the same shape as me and I feel that this is an issue the needs to be addressed immediately for instance earlier today I went to the store and it shut off at a stop sign and I tried to move it out of the road and it was to heavy for me to push until one man came to help me and its the same problem at red lights and much more normal people are always being harassed about no insurance,a light being out and another thing that can be fixed easily and yet when a vehicle shuts off in the road all the police can say is move it or we will tow it its kind of hard to move it when I will not start so please investigate this problem for the safety of myself and others thank you for your time.
Component: electrical system details: I own a 1999 Dodge Durango it has 130000 miles on for the past 2 months it just shuts off no power to gauges and engine dies just like I turned the engine off doesn't matter where you are just have to wait about 30 min and will start back up this is very dangerous to my family after searching the web for this problem I noticed several other people have the same problem this happens daily several mechanics have looked for the problem but it has not been found Dodge needs to step up to the plate and repair there defective vehicles. Last year I had to replaced the master brain was told this was the problem. Now one year later after the warranty is out it is doing it again, no one can find out why it is cutting out again, been in shop several time with told nothing is wrong. I have had this 1999 Dodge Durango since 1999 and always taken care of it as far as maintenance goes. Someone please tell me what is causing the problem. I do not want another SUV to roll over because of cutting out and not being able to control the SUV. I bought a Dodge because this happen once to my Ford and I almost lost my family (3 children and husband) that time. I did lose the full use of my left hand. This problem need to be taken care of please help I see I am not the only one.
I purchased the 1999 Dodge Durango 2/8/09. The truck ran good for one week. Then it would just stall with no warning and a "no bus error" would flash on the odometer. After about 20 minutes the truck would start back up. But that is unacceptable. It has been stalling every week since may 12, 2009. It quit 8/11/09 and it was stuck in traffic with no where to go. It took one hour and 15 minutes for the truck to start back up. Dodge needs to be held accountable for this issue. If you just take 3 minutes and google "no bus signal on odometer of 1999 Dodge Durango" you'll spend the next 3 days reading all the complaints with no solution to fixing the problem. I am a single parent and I depend on this vehicle to get back and forth to work and the doctors. I have had the diagnostics run on the truck and it doesn't even read. They don't know about it unless they're in the truck with you when it happens or there within 15 mins of the truck stopping. All this money for cash for clunkers and couldn't even drive it to a car lot if I wanted to. It wouldn't start. I am very upset and angry and feel that Dodge has Dodged another bullet. Never will I buy a car from Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep again, because they are not being responsible. Believe me, they are aware of the issue. Just don't give a *^$!.
I have a 1999 Dodge Durango which has stalled while driving numerous times. The first time I was in stop and go traffic and it died. 3 minutes later it started back up and ran fine. Then, a month later while traveling 65mph on the freeway it died again. Luckily I was in the right lane and was able to coast to the shoulder lane. After 10 minutes it started up again and ran fine. A week later I was driving it and it suddenly died again. This time it took over 2 hours to get it started again. It died again 10 minutes later. Another 15 minutes to get it started again and it died pulling in to my driveway. I am afraid to drive this vehicle, and don't know what to do to fix it. I was told by a mechanic it might be the fuel filter, and when I looked for the part online, I came across a website with hundreds of consumer complaints for the same problem. People are afraid to drive this vehicle since it is a safety issue that it will just die unexpectedly irregardless of where you are driving it or how fast or slow it's going. Diagnostic tests reveal no error codes, people are being told to try changing out several different parts on the vehicle, at great cost, with no consistent success at solving this problem. I cannot afford to spend money guessing what the problem may be, and it seems Dodge is well aware of this problem with 1998-99 Dodge Durangos across the country. All seem to think it is a manufacturer defect in design of this vehicle, as the pcm is located in a very high heat location under the hood which seems to fry the pcm as well as numerous other parts it is running in conjunction with. . 1999 Dodge Durango shuts down, electronically, while driving in warm/hot weather. This is directly related to the pcm and/or it's location. Very dangerous, even life threatening if on the freeway. Dodge does not recognize the problem, or safety issue, so forums and consumers are left to resolve this very huge problem. Only seems to exist on Dodge Durango's with the years 1999 and 2000. Problem can be resolved, for freeway use, with modifications to the vehicle; a 3-4 inch tube from the grill to the pcm. No fix, so far, for local use on hot days.
I will be driving on the freeway up to 70mph then the car will turn off, goes dead everything gets locked really hard to keep in control after everything locks up. This happens every time I drive it, I have stopped driving it on the freeways due to it goes dead after a few miles. I have been told it will be my (cbm) or the main computer it gets hot and it reset it self after 20min of no bus which will appear on the mileage reader and I read lots of the same issue I am having .
My 1999 Dodge Durango shuts off while driving on the road . Sometimes it takes 15-20 min for it to start up . . . But it seems to get worse in the hot summers. Lately I have been driving it and it does it more and more . I have come close to being hit by a 18 wheeler!.
Vehicle dies sporadically, has the "no bus" indication on the odometer. It is a common anomaly causing $800 to $1500 in repairs on my 1999 Dodge Durango.
The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the vehicle had stopping issues. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle stopped without warning. There was a loss of all electrical components, power steering, and abs. She had to pour cold water on the computer in order for the vehicle to restart and was almost struck by a semi-truck in the process. The contact was concerned for her safety and her life. The manufacturer would not assume any liability for the failures. A Dodge specialist stated that this was a frequent issue. The current and failure mileages were less than 170,000.
I bought my Durango last year and it has left me and my kids stranded on road many times in very dangerous situations because of no shoulder to pull out of way of other drivers, it shuts down without warning, loses all power, restarts in 1-30 minutes but will shut down again within a few miles especially on hot days. First replaced fuel pump then relay switches and problem still continues, nothing ever shows on the diagnostics. Three mechanics have been unable to figure it out but I still had to pay for their time so here I am with only one vehicle that I still owe money for and can't depend on it to get me anywhere. I drive everyday in fear that my car is going to stall and get me or my kids killed.
I own a 1999 doge Durango it has 145000 miles on for the past 2 months it just shuts off no power to gauges and engine dies just like I turned the engine off doesent matter where you are jsut have to wait about 30 min and will start back up this is very dangerous to my family after serching the web for this problem I noticed several other people have the same problem this happens daily several mechanics have looked for the proble but it has not been found Dodge needs to step up to the plate and repair there defective vehicles.
When I turn on my headlights the instrument cluster, panel, lights go out the turn signal arrows light up. At night this is very dangerous as you can not see how fast you are going and also if any of the warning lights were to come on you would not know because you can't see them as they do not light up. This is also a problem during the day because of the instrument lights are out. When I crank car the chimes do not always sound. I am getting shocked when I stop turn off car and get out and touch the door to close it.
I was on the highway and my vehicle shut down. When this happened I was doing 65 m. P. H. And lost control of the steering and braking which almost resulted in a crash with my toddler in the vehicle. I finally got some help from a passer by to get it off of the road and let the pcm cool down and it started again. This happens whenever it is above 70 degrees out side. I have contacted Dodge and they will not warranty this problem nor recall it. We need help. I have found over one hundred cases of this happening and Dodge will do nothing about it. Please help before some one gets killed if they haven't already this is serious. A new p. C. M. Cost between 800. 00 and 1200. 00 dollars and the same thing keeps happening. The other thing on the 1998 and 1999 Durango is the oil pump screens are to small and keeps CA]using engine failure in the same manner as the problem above. Please investigate you are the only ones that can save a life. Thank you.

1999 Dodge Durango stalls and reads no bus on dash. I have replace the pcm and it worked for a while now problem back. Stalled in busy intersection.
1999 Dodge Durango-so many problems with this vehicle. Had to replace the computer due to overheating-common problem I hear. Now the upper and lower ball joints are bad and need replaced or my tires could fall off? lots of information that this is an extremely common problem and very very dangerous. Other years of derange have been recalled because of ball joints being bad. I have not had an accident yet and am hoping not to. Can't afford all these repairs for things that seem to be a common issue with this vehicle.
