Dodge Durango's with two wheel anti-lock brake system problems* the rear brakes locked which caused the axle to bounce severely. The back of the vehicle started swerving to the side. The rear axle bounce and the vehicles instability seemed to reduce the effectiveness of the front brakes. The ultimate result was a very slight bumper impact with a semi-trailer.
On wet surfaces, in seattle area, when, the brakes come on by abs, but the braking capacity goes down to less than 50 percent brake capacity, resulting in collisions, even though distance factor is safe. Car has 70,000 miles on it.
While applying the brakes pedal went to the floor and jerked. This caused the driver to hit another vehicle in front. Driver's foot was on the brake, but the vehicle failed to stop. The driver had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and mechanic was not able to duplicate or resolve the problem.
Abs applied when a pedestrian walked in front of vehicle traveling about 30 mph, Durango would not stop, chugging motion, clunking sounds, rear of vehicle skidding to the left. Dry road, sunny day, about 70 degrees outside.
While driving at 20mph abs brakes locked up, causing consumer to lose control of vehicle. Vehicle had frontal damage. Contacted dealer, and dealer stated that abs brakes were not suppose to lock up, and would get back in touch with consumer. Consumer was infomred that anti-lock brakes are in the rear not the front.
When requiring to stop quickly, front brakes lock up, and vehicle skids, rear anti-locks work but dont keep vehicle from skidding. Clicking noise from under dash when this happens. Have had several accidents due to this problem. Even at 35 mph on dry street they still lock up. Dealer wouldnt talk to me, refered me to Dodge complaints, they tested the brake system and read that the computer showed no failure in braking system.
While consumer was driving on highway and without any notice vehicle started to do 180 degree turn, and then brakes would stop working. Has not contacted dealer.
When trying to stop, the brakes seem to grab and then the car slides and then the brakes would grab again. This has happened about 5 times and resulted in concern the safety of the brakes. Sometimes there is a clicking sound after this happens. Therefore the car was taken to the Dodge dealer to have the breaks checked and no problem was identified. But on 4/7/01, when the brakes were applied, a loud roaring sound occured and the car continued to slide as if there were no brakes, which caused a collision into the rear of a vehical at a stoplight. The noise continued after the collision for about 30 seconds, followed by a strong burning electrical smell. The car was driven to a parking lot and has been driven home and does have braking action now.
Brake pedal became hard, resulting in extended stopping distance, and causing a collision. Dealer inspected vehicle.
Pressed brake abs kicked in and would not stop. Clear day, dry clean road, and no skidding. 3times in shop still a problem.
Consumer was in traffic and tried to slam on brakes because another driver in front had stopped, and consumer's vehicle would not stop, consumer stood on brakes, and vehicle still didn't stop. Depressing brakes to floor caused the engine to rev up to a higher idle rpm.
Driving on wet, snowy road at 40 mph. My car swerved violently to the right and into an embankment. Have had repeated brake problems with brake rotor warping in the past. After the accident and repair, the car developed violent vibtration in front end. Repair shop diagnosed bad front wheel bearings. Repair shop informed me that replacement parts are on "national back order" with 600+waiting list. Appears to be yet another design flaw which may well have contributed to my accident and loss of vehicle control.
