I bought my 04 Durango from a dealer and im outside of warrenty im a little irritated with my wife calling me complianing she is stranded! I paid big money for this truck and dont think I should be responsable for paying a mechanic to play guess and check. I have my truck randomly shifting in and out of 4lock mostly while driving slow but has happend on the expressway im worried for damage to my tranfercase from this I cant afford to replace a transfercase let alone the truck its self I see alot of others with the same issue and I think it shoulde be a recall before someone is hurt by this common problem.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2014

Rod pierced thru the bottom of engine and locked up (110k miles), family on board and happened while turning at busy intersection. . Had to replace engine used( found one with 70k, waiting on this one to do the same) consumes tons of oil. Electrical within driver seat and cd player are faulty/broken. Rust on rear outer wheel wells. (noticed this rust is apparent in every same model make year that I run across).

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2013

The black box on the inside of the dash got so hot that it melted off the actuator for the blend door. I currently have no control of my air placement. I was sitting idle with the heat on then noticed a plastic burning smell coming from the dash area.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

Truck was parked in the driveway and it was raining and without warning the lights turned on and smoke was seen from the hood, the key was not in the ignition or no one was near the truck at the time the fire departmnet was called in and the battery was disconnected. The truck was taken to the dealer for repairs and $1000. 00 was spent on repairs and when the truck was taken for a car wash the same thing happened again the Dodge dealer does not now what causes the water to go in to the engine I was told to change the spark plug wires and cables another $600. 00 but I was told that as water keeps going in the same problem may accur. Tests were done in the Dodge dealer shop and they confirmed that water in going in to the engine but can not explain why and how to solve it. If driving and it rains this may cause an accident if the truck turns off while driving.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2013

My truck was parked in the driveway, it was raining and then the lights started flickering without the keys being in the ignition. I tried to move the truck to the inside of the garage and the smoke came out of the hood and from under the dash. I turned the truck off and the engine remained running, we had to call the fire department because it was smoking and the keys were off. The fire department came and removed the battery and said it may be a short when it rained. The truck is in the garage I cant drive it when it rains because water goes in to the truck from the front I can actually see water leaking into the floor. I owned the truck for 3 years and never had this problem until it reached 100,000 miles.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2013

My 2004 Dodge Durango sat outside in the rain while I was away on a trip when it returned and restarted it, I heard a load pop and the engine idling rough, got out to check and seen and smelled oil coming out of the side of the engine block. Motors toast, good job Chrysler for a quality product!.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Vehicle was running fine until storm came through dumping continuous rain on vehicle. I went to move the vehicle later that day and noticed standing water on drivers side floorboard/carpet. It was soaked! I went to start the engine it didn't respond initially so I turned ignition backwards (off direction) and tried to restart. At that moment it started very rough and made a loud noise from the engine and continually does so whenever it is started now. I can't and don't drive it. Looking closer under the hood apparently water is getting inside the engine compartment when it rains. The black material lining under the hood was soaked also. On the engine there were water droplets and most components of the engine had dried water marks/streaks throughout the compartment.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

When raining vehicle wants to shut off due to water running down the hood/ windshield cowl and directly running onto engine electrical components. Perform a search for vehicle and issue. I am not the only one to have this issue.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

2004 Dodge Durango limited, 5. 7l hemi, purchased on 5/15/13. Extended warranty purchased with vehicle at time of sale. Vehicle has been returned for service five times to date for same root issue. In under one year, only approximately 2600 miles have been driven due to lack of reliability and service related problems. In this case, the root problem is known to the service department and is not unique to this specific vehicle, but rather a known issue with this year, make and model. Chrysler is unable to provide direction or any technical support to assist the service department with solving the issue. It has been clearly acknowledged by the dealership service department, as well as Chrysler directly, that this matter involves a manufacturing defect that has not been corrected and was never issued as a recall. Most recently, I was notified that engine damage had been repaired and the vehicle was ready to be picked up. In the same conversation, however, I was advised that the cause of the damage, being the defect that allows water to enter the engine compartment during heavy rain or car washes, was not rectified. This issue is clearly unresolved and the safety of my family and other motorists could be in jeopardy if catastrophic engine failure were to occur. Chrysler has opted to ignore this frequently reported issue and simply push those who complain away.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2013

Went out to start 2004 Dodge Durango morning after a heavy rain, turned key and rod went thru block. Had problems with it when it rained (caused multiple misfires) found out later after the engine blew that the company was aware of the cowl leakage probelm that allows water to leak onto motor. Think there should of been a recall or letter advising us this needed fixed. Evidentally these complaints arent beeing read or no one is paying attention to them. Guess were all screwed by Dodge. Vehicle was maintained proper every 3000 miles just for information Dodge will not help anyone if engine is out of warranty, they will tell you your on your own. Sale, sale, sale, your Dodge Durango and dont buy another one. Sale it and dont keep because it will happen again. By saling it the problem is then solved because Dodge or these guys wont do anything for you.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2012

My 2004 Dodge Durango limited stalls at slow speeds and when coming to a stop and also while making turns. Have had at dealership and they cannot find out what is causing this since there are no engine codes. Vehicle is becoming very dangerous to drive due to this issue. Durango has a 5. 7 hemi engine. Why is there no recalls on this issue when it involves over four years of production? are we waiting on a incident like Toyota had before we react? this has happened to Durango's with mileage low to high. Please help us now on this issue before it happens to you. Thanks !.

53 Electrical System problem

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2012

Water is getting under the cowl and onto my motor. I have taken my 2004 hemi Durango to several shops/dealers and the water is causing all kinds of problems. The cylinders are misfiring, some of the metal parts under the hood have rusted irreparably (ie. Motor heat guards), the windshield gets ice on the inside of the vehicle, my headlights blink on and off while driving, the heat works only sometimes due to the wires under the passenger side dash getting wet, and this water getting through is also causing my car to stall or almost stall every time it rains or take it through a car wash. This water is causing electrical problems. It is also rusting horribly fast near the wheel wells and on the back trunk hatch. Within only 2 weeks of cold weather I now have a solid hole from the rust. Why can't they recall some parts and fix this? the dealer is no help, they only want to charge me huge amounts of money to repair problems that were factory defects.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2011

At 93000 miles wheel indicator light stays on replaced tire at normal time to change, but light does not go out. . Also having other inside problems, engine is making bad noises, wipers don't work half the time ,air conditioner not blowing cool air even having it fix with freeon ,center panel over heats. Air bag light come on and off while driving with no one else in truck.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2011

I purchased the vehicle in 2009, within a 1 years, I noticed while driving during a heavy downpour the car would shake and sometimes stall out. I took it to the dealer in 2011 and they replaced the intake gaskets. I am now realing that this seems to be a common problem and should have had a recall on it.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2011

I own a 2004 Dodge Durango and let me tell you the problems I have had with it!! the radiator, throttle position sensor and brakes. The biggest problem is when it rains. The truck just shuts off, no matter where you are when this happens. You could be on the highway going 65mph and it just shuts down. I thank god that I haven't gotten in to an accident yet. It is so dangerous to drive it like that not knowing if when you re out and its starts to rain I head for home because I am so worried. I don't even let me teenage daughter borrow it in cause she is out and god forbid it starts to rain. When it shuts down there are no brakes no nothing. Someone has to do something about this. There are so many complaints and no recalls on this part. That is insane!!!! someone somewhere is going to get killed!!! Dodge - you have to do something!!!!! I will never buy another Dodge again!!!.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2011

I have a 2004 Dodge Durango hemi 5. 7 with 62k miles. I maintained the car well. I have two major problems: 1) while driving on the highway the checking engine light and the lighting rod light comes on and the car jumps out of overdrive and remains in 3rd or 4th gear. My temporary fix would be to pull over, turn off the car wait 3 seconds then restart. The check engine light stays on but the lighting bolt goes off and the car is able to shift back into high gear. 2) recently the while driving the oil light comes and the car stalls leading me to stare the car off the road without any power. This is extremely dangerous!! I have no fix to date.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2010

I have a 2004 Dodge Durango that I have only had for 2 months well we had been driving through a bad rain on the highway doin 55 and all of a sudden the car started to sputter and shake I went from 55 miles a hour to 10 in 30 feet and almost got creamed by a tractor trailer with my kids in the car no less, well I had it towed to the dealer the said it was do to the rain and told me it would be 600 dollars to fix because it was general mat. Not covered in our warranty. So here me and my wife and kids go out in the storm. Pretty sucky for a dealer to do. So we made it home I got on line there are numerous sites about this problem so I call Dodge they say I'm the only one that has called in on this problem yeah right. What happens is the coil packs and wires get wet and arch and causes a miss fire I cant even wash my car that's how bad it is. Me and the other owners want to know why it hasn't been a recall???or does someone have to die first. This is a major problem and needs to be addressed thankyou.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2010

Purchased my hemi Dodge Durango 2004, with approx. 90,000 miles on it. Only 20,000 miles into the purchase, turning from a complete stop accelerating into a 40 mph. Lane at approx. 25-35 mph, (clunk) after hearing a loud thump, car would not move. Towed to experienced maintenance, contacted my local Chrysler maintenance dept. , only option to resolve my matter was to replace my now dead 110,000 mile engine with a re built engine at a purchase price of $2,500/approx. 70,000 miles. Approx. 15,000 miles and only local driving (3 miles tops/per day), I am experienceing faults which lead me to believe, I will experience this unfortunate problem again. Vehicle also, turns off in heavy rain, air bags alerts are faulty, stereo eqipment faulty, electical seating faulty. Please advise.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2010

2004 Dodge Durango slt 5. 7 litre. 85k mikles after driving on highway for at least 2-3 hours, check engine and electronic throtlle control warning lights come one. Happens everytime on the highway after 2-3 hours. Turn off car, wait 2 minutes, and it starts up and only check engine light stays on until it recycles. Now, the oil light comes on and the car shuts off in the middle of the road. After waiting 2 or 3 minutes and starting, ti is fine. Mechanic says Dodge needs to replace ecm / ecu. I see a lot of issue with this car stalling in the middle of the road. This is a dangerous issue that Chrysler needs to be held accountable for.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

The blend door which controls where heat and ac are directed breaks on this vehicle. Im unable to defrost the windows.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2010

On a 2004 Dodge Durango, when accelerating, the car basically dies and gets no power. The lightning bolt light come on. This is happening during acceleration on the highway causing a huge hazard and is now a safety concern.

66 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

2004 Durango shuts off while driving. Brake light and abs light up then the entire electrical system goes dead including power steering, brakes, lights, etc.

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2010

Incident occurred on a hot, humid day while traveling down the interstate at 70 mph. Without any previous warning, the a/c, blowing at full capacity, just stopped; there was no sound from the a/c motor nor was there a burning odor. Approximately 10 minutes later, I turned the a/c back on to find it was blowing extremely cold air on the low setting. I made several stops and everytime the a/c would work; however, the last stop and start I made the a/c did not work. The small town of natchitoches, la does not have a Dodge dealership anymore; therefore, I took my vehicle to an independent reputable auto shop in this small town. The mechanic and owner of the shop said that he has replaced about 3 or 4 melted blower motor resistors. Is this a common problem or is it a defect that needs to be addressed? it seems as though if something is melting that a fire could start and cause severe damage to the vehicle or worse, death to those in the vehicle.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2010

I bought my Durango at a used dealers. It had 56000 miles one owner, 2010, center column panel over heated and you could smell plastic burning. The radio shut off the air condition controls well actual everything was so hot you had to turn of truck to let that center panel cool down before you could turn them off,the next thing I started hearing a bad shifting noise and it banged really loud like from the rear end I assumed. No matter if you were driving slow or fast the truck would downshift and sounding like a rod or something was going to come through the floor. I have all of the maintence down when was told but this did'nt help at the time the downshifting started it was 90,000 miles ,now I am at 93,000 -or 98,000 miles and something is really knocking to me I thought it might have been a fan hittting the ratorater but not the case, it also stalls out in the rain and engine wont start until after rain has stopped, it stalls out on sunny days for no reson. You still here a thud noise or it downshifting hard at 15 miles an hour or if you go any speed it continues to down shift shaking the vechile. The windshield washer button broken off from under the hood the rubber around the hood keeps falling off inside panel lights are shorting out. Whats wrong with this truck good care fantastic vechile love it but it has issues bad issues. Not drivable 930000 #.

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2010

I own a 2004 Dodge Durango that has a safety recall on it in 2007-2008 for a potential fire in the cluster panel. I experienced a problem with the interior lights and hatch light not going and brought it to a Dodge dealer to have it looked at. The service mgr told me that it was the cluster panel (which was the recall on this vehicle) that had to be done again. Now Chrysler no longer has the part and due the potential fire hazard the vehicle can not be driven (all stated in the earlier g07 safety recall. I have put 10 phone calls into the Dodge cust service line and have heard no response from them. Please let me know if you can be of any help or perhaps direct me to someone who can. I have 2 small children and this is my only means of transportation. Thank you.

70 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2010

My 2004 Dodge Durango (5. 7 l) shut off while my husband was driving it. We were making a left hand turn into a parking lot and the truck shut off. He barely missed hitting another car because the steering and the brakes went out. It took 4 tries to get the truck started back up. This has happened to me 2 others times when I was sitting at a red light, thankfully I was not driving. The truck also stalls out everytime there is a heavy rain. The check engine light has not come on so every dealership I've spoken to says that there is nothing that can be done about it, but they are aware there is a problem. I use this truck to drive my children everywhere and I do not understand how this problem has not been addressed.
