2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2022

I have had my Durango for about 2 years, one day I went to start it and it clicked as if battery had died. When I jumped it, it started right up. I noticed that my dash had a tire sensor light and a light saying overhead lamp on. I turned my overhead switch and all my lights in the car turned on and then off when I turned switch. ( normal) so I knew something was up. After doing some research I read about the recall. I made an appointment on the 15th of June to get a recall for my instrument panel fixed. I dropped my car off at 7 am my appointment was at 8am. I called around 11:30 to get an eta since I was on a time limit for work and live an hour away. The dealership called to tell me that he needed to take out cluster and test it and if it was cluster he would have to order it and it could be a few days. If it was fine it was a circuit issue and he would need to fix it. Thank god my mother was in the same area visiting and was able to give me a ride home. He then called that evening and asked if I owned another key/fob. I told them I didn't and my fob has never worked since I purchased the vehicle. He stated that he got the recall all finished and fixed but now all the lights on my dash were flashing, my headlights the horn, flashers and something" went wonky" there. He then tried to tell me they needed to order a new fob to program it to my car and it was going to cost me almost $400. I told them I was not going to pay that amount and that it seems like they messed something up when they put it together. I picked up my car Friday the 17th and my tire pressure light was still on. After getting home and checking tires they were all fine. The next day I went to start my car and the headlight lamp light came back onto my dash. I already had to take 2 days off work and now have to miss more to have this recall done right. I looked up my VIN today the 20th and it says my recall is incomplete! to top it off they never gave me any paperwork or have me sign anything.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2021

I have had problems with the 4 wheel/ all wheel drive engaging on it's own. The problem exists even when the vehicle is turned off when using the key fob to lock the vehicle. I have on a two occasions have the transmission shift into four wheel low while doing over 55 mph which made the vehicle slow down skidding drastically and made the engine hit high rpms. After checking online for some information I've found that it's a problem with many owners of 2004, 2005 and 2006 Durango and dakota owners and found that the body control module, 4 wheel module and shift actuator was part of the faults. They had disconnected the wire harness to the shift actuator to remedy the chance of having an accident. I have done the same and looked into replacing faulty parts but also found that the fix was also temporary many owners reported the same problem just days after repairs. Please look into this, it's dangerous and it's well known that this problem exists with many owners why has mopar not addressed it. It will kill someone.

It is a awd car but sometime the 4lo light comes on with a very annoying noise from the bottom of the car or engine, then the speed being slowed down significantly, the car becomes hard to keep going. The streaking sound and the speed being reduced like the break being stepped on abrubtly makes me pull over for safety.

Failure Date: 11/13/2017

My service 4 wheel drive light came on and my SUV and my car started jerking unexpectedly while in traffic, as if it were changing or shifting gears, which could have caused an accident. When I took it to Dodge, I was told that the front control module for c1404, needed to be replaced, and that the part alone would cost $1200. 00. I am reading many articles about issues with the 4wd in this make, model, of vehicle and want to know if there is a recall on this and if not there should be, before someone is killed because of this issue (if not already).

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2017

Started with the ser 4 wheel drive light coming on intermitly . . Then passenger side window intermitly stops working . . Next the transfer case motor switches all by its self into 4 wheel lock and 4 wheel lo with no lights on the dash. . When its in 4 wheel lock its very hard to drive and turning almost imposable this creates a very unsafe condition when your driving when its in lock you can barely get out of a parking spot or get turned around even more scary on the road when it shifts all by its self . . Many times no lights on the dash to tell you it has changed . . . Other time while driving at highway speeds the 4 lock of 4 lo lights come on . . Very dangerous . . . Sometime the key fob also makes the transfer case motor change when the truck is not even running.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

I vehicle likes to turn its 4 wheel drive on while I am making turns. Also when it is parked you can hear the 4 wheel drive system making clicking noises. This happens when the vehicle is turned off and the key is not in the ignition. I have read thousands of complaints about this same problem. I see that some people have spent thousands of dollars to fix this problem and it does not. Some people have stated while driving on a highway or road it has kicked in and caused traffic accidents, some serious and some minors. When will this problem be addresses? will it take someone dying to get an investigation started? I have had this problem for a couple of years and thank god, nothing has happen to me or my family when this issues happens.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2017

For no reason the vehicle shuts off with no warning. No lights on the dash or anything, shuts off and no steering. Not safe to drive. It has happened while driving and while sitting at a light, no warning signs. Acts fine, both times during city street driving.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2017

While traveling on I-90 eastbound at 70 mph my 05 Dodge Durango suddenly lost momentum and the engine rpm went up. I managed to get to the shoulder safely. The engine was still running and the vehicle still in gear but the vehicle failed to move. The vehicle was towed to a repair facility just off the next closest exit. Examination showed the transmission fluid was okay, the repair facility found the torque converter had been stripped out. This vehicle had been displaying problems with the transfer case shifting without touching the selector switch. Also you could hear the transfer case motor activating while unlocking the doors ??? research has shown that there are many such incidences of problems with this vehicle. Repair costs me $1403. But the vehicle is still doing the same thing. There are reports of people changing out parts with no fix. I feel this vehicle is unsafe and the dealer should recall before someone gets killed. Repair facility said my torque converter had been totally stripped out as a result of whatever caused the problem. I am disheartened as I like this vehicle but can't afford to spend thousands of dollars chasing a fix that many including dealers have been unable to resolve. Whatever assistance would be greatly appreciated. . Read more...

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

The front heat/ac controls stop working. It doesn't matter rather the heat is on or the ac is on. It will randomly stop blowing air. When this happens the wires under the passenger side dash (up under the glove box) get extremely hot and smells like burning plastic. When my mechanic looked into it the white plastic pigtail part was half melted away. He replaced it but a few months later we had to replace it again with the same issue. I didn't drive this vehicle for about 6 months after it was repaired. Now after 2 days of driving it since it was sitting it has gone out again.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2017

As I was driving home, all of the dash warning/service lights came on. At the same time, my turn signals, brake lights, windshield wipers, hazard lights, and all gauges malfunctioned. I believe this to be an issue with the "front control module".

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2017

The vehicle doesn't want to drive like the brake is on this happens even worse when trying to turn. The service 4 wheel drive light is on. I got on a forum and was blown away by all the people having the same problem. Some say electrical some say transfer case. They was 2005 or all in this area. The vehicle only has 69000 miles on it.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2016

When in motion, vehicle's rpm will drop to 0 (randomly, no way to tell when coming), along with a loss of power steering and various electronics within the vehicle. Problem is usually fixed by restarting vehicle, but it has been very dangerous - especially on the highway. Has happened at least 5 times during my ownership of the vehicle (4 years).

25 Electrical System problem

Interior lights won't go off. Smell burning wires inside the vehicle.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2016

While stopped at several traffic lights and construction work zones, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to napleton Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram (located at 1460 e osceola pkwy, kissimmee, FL 34744, (855) 437-9197) to be diagnosed; however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was also taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted or made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

27 Electrical System problem

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

My vehicle will kick into 4x4 lo with no warning or notice. Happens on tight turns. Seems this is a huge problem on 2004-2005 Dodge druango.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2015

I am experiencing the same exact issues with my 2005 Dodge Durango as other posts. The 4lo and svc 4wd warning lights on the instrument panel periodically flash on and off, and frequently when I slow down to pull into a parking spot or driveway I hear a clunking sound and the transmission actually shifts on its own into 4 wheel drive. The wheels will lock and when I accelerate it actually jerks the car and drags the tires. Recently I heard a loud thump as if something broke and it shifted into 4wd on its own. In addition, when I shut the car off it will occasionally start clicking as if its locking and unlocking the car doors. This will continue for 10-15 seconds before stopping. I have had the vehicle into the local Dodge dealer numerous times for service but they claim to have not heard of the problem before and seem baffled as to what¿s causing it. Clearly this is not an isolated incident because of the hundreds of reports I¿ve seen from people experiencing the same issues. After waiting 6 weeks for an aftermarket instrument panel the dealer replaced it, but that made absolutely no difference and I am still experiencing the same exact issues as before.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2015

Vehicle keep trying to shift into 4 wheel drive mode by itself while parked, driving and when vehicle is turned off.

31 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2015

The car sv 4d light comes on. And when driving the car shifts into 4wd which causes the car to stall and almost caused me my life and family life on the highway.

32 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2015

When filling the gas tank, a large amount of fuel always shoots out of the filler neck and spills onto vehicle, ground, and objects around vehicle. Also the vehicle does not come with tpms, however the tpms warning light on the instrument panel stays on all the time. Also if the rear lift gate is opened the cargo light indicator on the instrument panel stays on until you open and close the lift gate a total of two times.

33 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

In my 05 Durango, the 4wd keeps clicking on and off randomly. I could be driving down the highway or just turned the car off. The engine has not been able to go in drive, reverse, etc. I had a mechanic look at the transmission, spending a ton of unnecessary money when the whole time the 4wd has been stuck in neutral. Dodge knows about the problem, why isn't there a recall? apparently the switching into 4lo at high speeds can cause serious damages -- even death to me or my children or other innocent people on the highway. What am I supposed to do????.

34 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2015

On my vehicle the 4 wheel drive will automatically engage while I am driving. It has switched into 4lo a few times which almost caused a serious accident. There is also a clicking noise that sounds like the gears are switching back and forth, when I use the remote lock/unlock on the key fob. The Dodge dealership did not know why it was happening and said maybe I should replace the transfer case but they did not know for sure if that would do anything. So I lost over $100 and got nothing out of it. I took it to my mechanic who said that unplugging at the transfer case would stop the issue but the 4 lo and other switches would not work and the service 4x4 light would remain on. Since I have to drive I had him do this and it did fix the problem but now I don't have any 4 wheel drive which really sucks living in utah with all the snow. The fact that the vehicle would switch into 4 lo when I was doing 70 mph on the freeway is a major safety concern. There needs to be a recall on this problem.

35 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2015

About six months ago 4lo light started flashing then when I shut the car off I can hear shifting into and out of 4wd. Had it checked for codes and they found none. Now as I was driving it locked into 4lo vehicle made a popping sound and stalled. Right in the middle of a busy intersection. I was able to start it back up but now I can't drive this car due to fear of it doing this again.
