My car repeatedly cuts off while I am driving. I noticed that other people have the same issue with the same model as I have which a 2005 Dodge Durango. I did my research and it was identified by Dodge as a low maneuver issue. One incident that happens a few days ago was that my vehicle shut off on a curve while merging on the highway. I am very luck that it was a car behind me and they were not going fast. My car shut off and I lose control of the steering because of the loss of power. I have to put the car in park and then try to start the vehicle. I would like this issue addressed I have complained about this since 2006.

My Durango has started to engage into 4 wheel drive on its own. It does this when parked and when driving. It now is stuck in four wheel drive and cannot drive on the pavement. This seems to me to be a serious problem and should be recalled by Dodge.

Ac/heater blower resistor and harness burn out leaving the vehicle with no heater or cool air. I have had to have this now replaced once by the dealership, once by my brother who is a mechanic that teachers at unoh in ohio, and the last couple of time by my husband and myself. The part is not real costley but the labor is for a dealership to fix it. Dodge/fiat need to find a solution.
I have not had a accident thank god. I brought my 2005 Dodge Durango february2, 2015. Make a long story short with in the past 2 month I have had to have my tank dropped 3 times now I have to have it dropped again so this will be the forth time &my truck wil not start &the pump is not coming on. I got a letter about the airbags recalls, my question is have it ever been a recall on the computer or the electrical system for this SUV? I think my whole fuel system is messed up cause when I go to fill it up gas come shotting back out the tank at me & I see it was a recall on that & I have not recieved my letter to go have it checked out. Please please please help.
Driving on I-43 to work, the 4 wheel lo light flashed and went out. A few minutes later it flashed again, except this time it locked in 4 wheel lo at 70 mph during morning rush hour traffic. This caused the vehicle to rapidly slow down from 70 mph to 25 mph. I had check the vehicle codes with no errors. On the way home, I had to stop several times to cycle the transfer case, in order to disengage the 4 wheel lo. Reading many blogs on the internet, this seems to be an issue with 2004 through 2007 Dodge 4 wheel drive vehicles. Mechanic states that without a code, they will just start replacing parts until the correct one is found. This could take $2000. 00 to $3000. 00.
This has happened on multiple occasions!!!!! it happens at any speed, the truck will lose all power and shut off without warning. I can't steer or do anything but put the truck in park and restart the truck. I have taken it in the be looked at and nothing can be figured out as it does it randomly. I have four children and this last time we were turning and the truck just shut off while another vehicle was coming down the street. I have researched this and sees others are having the same issue. I have had some of the suggestions done such as replacing the egr valve and flushing the system. I need an answer as I do not feel safe!!!!!!!!!!.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. In addition, the contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v313000 (air bags) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Djr.
Transfer case motor engages while driving going from awd to four wheel lo. This can potentally cause a very bad accident. 4wlo light fickers and transfer case motor engages even with vehicle shut off.
Was driving on the freeway. The service 4wd light started flashing, and the transmission shifted into 4lo by itself. All efforts to shift back out of 4lo failed. Had the vehicle towed. Service shop diagnosed transfer case as the problem, and replaced it. The problem persists. Vehicle continues to shift into 4lo by itself which impacts the ability to turn the vehicle.
As I went to work today, I noticed my truck was kicking when accelerating down the street. As I would come up to a complete stop, the truck would still keep on going. I have been hearing clicking when I open up the driver door , and on occasion on my daily commute to work, I was noticing the 4lo light blink. Well, today, I drove to work, and on the interstate, the 4lo light came on without blinking. A solid color. I started to see a lot of white smoke come from under the hood of the car, and from the bottom of the car as well. I pulled over to look at the vehicle and noticed that the truck was leaking all the tranny fluid. I was blocks from work, when I went back into the Durango and noticed that the extreme heat light had turned on in the dashboard. I waited about 30 minutes until I turned my truck back on , and begin to drive to work. It was still kicking and now it felt like the tranny was slipping. I finally made it to work. The truck was engulfed in smoke . Ive noticed that when the 4lo lights start blinking, I have a hard time trying to turn the wheels left or right, and my wheels lock. This should be a transfer case recall. . . Its a real big safety issue.
Vehicle engine shut off/stalled with no warning. Dash lights turned off, brakes wouldn't work.
Was driving and all of a sudden I smelt something burning in the dash board and all instrument lights started to get dim and dimmer and then I notice smoke coming from the dashboard and all most immediately the door locks and windows stop working, the car would lock itself and the windows stop working at all and at this point the rear door do not open at all. I ask the dealer at the lot that I bought it from at the time of purchase if the vehicle had been in a accident or was there any recalls on this vehicle and he said no and that I bought the van as is and to this day I cant get this dealer to see that this car is unsafe to operate and that I am not going to risk mine nor my kids life to drive it and he will not even trade me out of this car for something better. The other day I was fueling the van and all of a sudden gasoline shot back out the tank and spilled gas all over me, scared the hell out of me. Not only that, I was driving down the interstate in my state and out of no where my seat on its own terms began to move forward all the way to the steering wheeling pressing me to the wheel and I am 6ft 3in tall and weigh 230lbs I again call the dealership to complain and got the same story that I agreed to purchase the vehicle as is, I agreed that I did but I told him that I do not think that he told me everything that I needed to know about possible safety issues. And again I have four children age 6 months to four years old whom I love very dearly.
My 2005 Dodge Durango has an issue with the transfer case. When using the key fob to unlock the doors, the transfer case will switch from awd to 4wd hi on its on. Also while driving the service 4wd light will appear and it will switch to 4wd hi and if going around a turn. My wheels have locked up causing me to slide and almost hitting another vehicles. I believe this is unsafe and have been many complaints. How many more of these have to happen and ends up taking someones life. I would like to see this issue resolved.
Having 3 major issues that can be life threating. . 1) driving at any speed sometimes vehicle will completely shut off leaving me on the highway at 60mph no power steering 2) filling gas tank up no matter if I go slow will always spit lots of gas back out of the neck 3) 4x4 is engaging by itself. I can park it turn motor off and you can hear it going into 4x4 without me being in the vehicle or touching the 4x4 knob. This has cause me issue steering when it decides to go into 4x4 mode by itself. I need to know if their is current complaints about the above issues and how can I get them fix without me paying.
Vehicle stalled while driving, completely froze up. Was unable to use brakes, steering wheel was also affected. Was very scary as we were driving in traffic. This has happened on more than one occasion while driving and also when backing out of driveway.
Summary: when I parked and exited/locked my 2005 Dodge Durango, I could hear the transfer case switching all on its own. On my way home the svc 4wd light lit and then 4lo began flashing. We left on vacation and when I came home and backed the car out there was a loud noise and it is undriveable. I have read many reports of other ownwer's vehicles doing the same thing on years 2004 & 2005 with the hemi motor and the dealers not knowing what is going on and charging several expensive repairs for different findings not always fixing the problem.
As I approached my vehicle and used the remote to open the doors, I heard a noise under the vehicle like gears were shifting on their own without the vehicle even running. I started the vehicle and started driving. When I went into a parking lot and turned left to park, it was like someone was putting on the brakes making it difficult for me to turn and to accelerate--felt like I was in 4wd despite not shifting to 4wd from awd. I nearly hit the car next to mine because I had to accelerate so hard to get into the spot without getting hit from the rear. I turned the car off and let it sit for 1/2 hour and restarted it and drove home. When I let the car sit in the garage, I was in the garage and heard gears shifting on their own while the vehicle was not running. This has already happened 3 times and it is quite scary! if I try to turn left and this happens on the road, I could get into a serious accident.
My Durango is one of hundreds possibly thousands of vehicles that has the transfer case mysteriously shifting on its own. It can be triggered by the unlock button, even the dome light. The transfer case is now shifting all the time in and out of position both when the vehicle is under operation and parked. The is dangerous and Dodge claims to know nothing. I spent 10 minutes and found hundreds of Chrysler vehicles with the same symptoms and no definitive answers. (google Dodge Durango svc 4wd light) please help.
Ac/heater blower harness and resistor burning out, leaving me without heat defrost or air conditioner. This model of Durango can not be driven down the road with all the windows down for cool air in the summer. You get such a deafing thump noise.
I have replaced the cylinder switch on my truck which cost me $465. 00 to get a new 1 in order to crank my truck aaa repaired this for me in 2014,I've also had a leak sealed up in the coolant area all my freeon was leaking out now the windows on the truck will not go down the only thing that opens is the sunroof. I had the truck put on a machine at a shop here they said it was the canbus system under the hood that is inside the computer that is causing this but my truck also has a recall on it as well,I have a white 2005 Dodge Durango hemi 7. 5l truck VIN number 1d4hb58d15f610689 yet to hear anything on the recall 07/25/2015.
On 3/19/2014 I was driving in the middle lane of a very busy street called gratiot Ave with heavy traffic and the engine just stopped. I could not accelerate and had just enough speed to slowly merge right and turn into a shopping mall off the street in order to miss oncoming traffic. My truck had completely stalled.
Vehicle switches in & out of 4wd on its own while driving, or puts itself into neutral on the 4wd, also hear something engaging when unlocking doors with remote when parked or remote won't work at all to unlock doors. Mechanic found lots of other mechanics working on same issue on a forum he subscribes too and I found tons of Durango & some pickup owners complaining of and trying to get the same issue fixed. I have had several other minor electrical issues in my Durango for the past two years so I am convinced this is an electrical issue.
When you go to put gas in it the gas wont shut off and I have an inside light that says gas cap even though we have replaced the gas cap and I have rust where the gas has run down the car. Im also having trouble with my gages in the vehicle and it takes spells that it doesnt want to take gas.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph over a pot hole, the lights on the instrument panel and the radio failed. The contact stated that he tapped on the instrument panel and the lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they stated that the vehicle was repaired once before for the same failure. The failure mileage was 127,000.
Beginning Friday, January 31, 2014 in the evening the dome lights of my Durango would not turn off after the normal delay. We tried several things to shut them off but they stayed on. The car started fine Saturday, February 1, 2014 in the morning and I took it to run errands. I noticed again though the lights stayed on. That evening we parked the car as normal in the garage. At about 3:30 am Sunday, February 2, 2014 we were awakened by smoke in the house. We found the heaviest smoke in the room connected to the garage. We got our children and pets out of the house and called the fire department. When they arrived the Durango was on fire. The entire interior burned. There was substantial damage to our garage and some damage to the interior adjoining room. The fire inspector told us that the fire originated in the interior headlining of the Durango. Starting at the front by the windshield and then moving to the back of the vehicle. The fire department put the fire out and the vehicle was towed to a body shop.
When actuating the left turn signal, the right turn signal comes on. Problem occurs for a short time (a day) and then disappears. Problem appears intermittently. If you are watching traffic, you will not even notice the problem and that you are signalling the wrong direction.
I was pulling into a parking space and the car started skipping and jumping, vehicle was hard to steer and it also hesitated to go, turning was very difficult. The 4 lock light was flashing on all by itself and the knob has been on awd I only rarley switch the vehicle to 4 lock in the winter time. This makes about a dozen times it has happened to this vehicle. Twice in one day is very scary. I am very afraid of what might happen if I am going a higher speed at the time it decides to mess up. I have talked to a mechanic and he has never heard of the issue but says it could be very dangerous if it would happen while driving a higher rate of speed. I have search on line by typing '05 Dodge Durango 4 lock by itself' and there are a lot of people having the same issue. Also with no luck figuring the problem, one person had replaced the transfer case 3 times and it was only a tempory fix.
My Durango shift into 4 wheel hi and 4 wheel lo by itself while driving and while sitting. This cause my truck while driving to jerk and it locks the wheels up. This situation causes difficulty to turn also.
While operating the vehicle the service 4wd light came on. At some point after that the transfer case shifted into 4hi lock. I scand the obdii and had no codes present. Also scand the 4wd selector switch and it showed the switch was operational, but the transfer case shift motor was not shifting. Dropped the vehicle off at an independent transmission shop one week later and it sat for a few hours and when they went to road test it no warning lights and it was now in awd. Again the repair shop did an obd scan and came up with no codes. If these vehicles were to shift into four wheel drive (low or high range ) at highway speeds of 65 mph I feel major driveline damage and or failure will result, which could lead to serious injury or death.
Vehicle stalls at low speeds and deceleration, idling hard at a stop and while in park, will stall when idling hard, gas spills out of inlet when filling up completely, sluggish in temperatures below 30 degrees and above 80 degrees, requires more than normal maintenance, service tech's can never diagnose the causes of stalling or idling issues, think it might concern the throttle body, transmission has torqued itself out before, stripped screws, rebuilt at 90000 miles. Just waiting for it to go again. This vehicle has been nothing but issues ever since I bought it used. Every fix just feels like a band aid to the manufacturing problems it has.
The vehicle stalls while making turning maneuvers at low speeds which disables the power steering and brakes. This has occured on numerous occasions but the dealer is unable to duplicate the prolem and has not been able to correct this issue. This has always occur during decelerations, such as braking for a stop sign or traffic signal. When it happen I must immidiately put the vehicle in park and restart it, but luckily this has not let to an accident yet.
