While driving to the store (with my son in the front passenger seat) all of a sudden, and for no apparent reason, the front passenger seat headrest popped (came forwards) striking him in the back of the head with substantial force stun him temporarily. The startled me. He had a headache for a couple hours afterwards.
Driver's active head restraint (ahr) deployed while driving the vehicle.
Unknown.
The rear bolt which holds the automatic lift for the rear hatch broke off and is stripped. The trunk door is no longer being supported by the arm and is quite heavy. Every mechanic is unable to address the issue and this seems to be very common among this model of the car. The broken bolt is flushed against the frame of the vehicle. Images of the issue are included. Here is a discussion post of consumers discussing this same issue for reference. . Read more...
Passenger side active headrest deployed without warning. No lights/ alarms on dash display.
The rear taillights are taking in water and causing the lights to go out. This appears to be a systemic issue with Dodge Durango's as based on the fact of the high number people indicating the same issue on Dodge Durango facebook pages.
The front passenger headrest sprung out and hit my husband in the back of the head while we were driving.
Driver headrest randomly deployed hit me in the back of the head and strained my neck.
**subject:** request for investigation – Dodge Durango taillight water intrusion and safety hazard to whom it may concern, I am writing to formally request that the national highway transportation administration (NHTSA) investigate a widespread and potentially dangerous manufacturing flaw affecting Dodge Durango vehicles. Both my vehicle and a significant number of other Dodge Durango owners have experienced a recurring issue where water enters the taillight assembly. This intrusion causes the taillights to malfunction, resulting in the lights going out unexpectedly. This defect not only compromises vehicle safety by reducing visibility and signaling capability, but also poses a risk of further electrical damage. In some cases, owners have reported concerns about potential electrical failures and even fire hazards due to water exposure within the taillight housing. Given the prevalence of this issue among Dodge Durango owners, I strongly urge the NHTSA to conduct a thorough investigation and require the manufacturer to address this defect. Importantly, any corrective action should be provided at no out-of-pocket cost to affected vehicle owners, as this is a clear manufacturing flaw that impacts safety and reliability. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your response and to seeing appropriate action taken to protect consumers and ensure vehicle safety. Sincerely, [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] . Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The passenger side headrest deployed (popped forward). The vehicle has not been repaired and is available for inspection. This is a major concern since this could happen to the driver as well while driving and potentially cause an accident. The manufacturer knows about this and has an active warranty to cover it. However, why is this not an active recall? it’s a major safety concern for drivers if this happens while driving the vehicle.
The power actuator for the rear lift gate broke free of its mount causing the actuator to damage the interior of the vehicle as well as causing the rear lift gate to slam closed. Luckily there was no one under the lift gate when this malfunction occurred, but if a child were in the way of the lift gate serious injury or death could have occurred. It is unacceptable that this powerful of an actuator is relying on one single bolt as its connection. When I took this to the dealership to get fixed, they told me they could not fix it and referred me to a local body shop. I live in a small town of around 65,000, and I was the forth Dodge vehicle in the last year or so they have seen with this same issue. I have contacted mopar who makes these vehicles, and they were not interested in repairing this with the warranty and referred me to the NHTSA. If there are four of these issues in a town of 65,000 I can only assume there are plenty of others throughout the nation. I have attached a photo of the part that failed.
Active head restraint on drivers side deployed while parked. Visual inspection shows broken plastic internal parts and will not reset when compressed.
Was at a red-light when the driver side headrest deployed. Got hit forcefully in the back of the head.
While driving my drivers side headrest popped open and hit me in the head.
Spontaneous active head restraint deployment, passenger side, while parked. No collision occurred. Drivers side headrest also deployed spontaneously while parked in closed garage.
I made a complaint on Saturday but did not attach photographs. While we were driving our 2015 Dodger Durango I needed to pull over to check on my children. I was not in any traffic accident as I was driving the posted speed limit of 35 on the street. When my wife and I exited the vehicle the passenger headrest deployed. Scared and unsure what happened, I asked my wife if she had touched or pulled the headrest. She stated they she did not. We were not aware nor informed at the time of purchase that this vehicle has a safety feature that deploys the head rest in a rear and collision. I began researching this issue online and found that this has been occurring for several years. With some cases leading to injury and litigation. Scared, I took it the following morning to the dealership on which we purchased the vehicle. They held it for the day, inspected the vehicle, ran diagnostics. The end result was that my extended warranty did not cover a defective safety feature head rest. Now I have to pay $970. 00 dollars to repair or drive the vehicle without this safety feature. I am currently calling fca the parent company for Dodge to address this issue.
While driving I pulled over and my wife and I exited the vehicle to check on our two crying toddlers, when my wife excited the passenger side of the vehicle a loud bang occurred and the headrest ejected forward. I asked my wife if she had touched the head rest and stated she did not. We researched this issue and it's a safety mechanism designed for rear impact collisions to prevent whiplash. We were not in an accident, we were driving and pulled over. We pulled over on surface steers. No impact to the vehicle. I took the vehicle to the dealership this morning and they are looking into the issue. I feel from conducting research that the dealership will not repair this safety mechanism.
Getting in the passenger seat the head rest poped out. While the car was in park and no accident. Now I am scared the drivers headrest will do the same while I am driving.
Dodge Durango water in taillights causes waterlog in the led lighting area and not draining led out on the left side of vehicle. Replacing item cost around $1085. 00 and up manufacturing design defect. Vehicle has 31954 miles on it.
Vehicle will turn over but will not start. Dealer claims battery issue, but most individuals discovered that it is a fuel pump relay issue. 2nd time this has happened with same vehicle.
Passenger headrest came apart. A piece broke inside and caused the headrest to separate. Vehicle was not moving at the time of separation, it was parked in the driveway.
When driving vehicle rear clunking noise on driver side is present over small or moderate bumps. Noise is becoming worse over time and dealer has no explanation. Sound is becoming more concerning and worried about my safety in the vehicle.
Passenger head restraints deployed while car was parked in driveway.
My wife put her 2015 Durango into park and exited the vehicle. She was standing at my passenger window speaking to me when her car suddenly rolled toward her. The Durango pinned her between it and my vehicle from the chest down.
Premature wear on tail housing seal gasket. Water leaks in when it rains and fills the tail light. Water then affects the led when then flickers before it kills the led.
While using the vehicle on marksheffel rd we noticed that the horn was not working. That was our first sign for concern. Shortly afterwards while at a stop light we noticed that the steering wheel controls were not working either. Lastly we noticed that there are multiple indicators on the dashboard that are displayed indicating a failure somewhere. One of the indicators relates to an airbag. The vehicle is only a few years old. According to many forums and reports online this is a recurring Dodge issue that they fail to fix year after year. They have had recalls for this issue on other vehicles and years but not this 2015 Durango and they will not cover it under any warranty. They should have had this issue resolved by now considering it has been going on since at least 1997. We drive our kids in this vehicle and feel that it is cause for concern but feel we should not have to pay for their mistakes.
I have taken great measures to ensure the safety of my family and other drivers related to an ongoing issue of service shifter. I have taken my vehicle under extended warranty 3 times for the same problem and suspect autonation has been unable to identify issue nor troubleshoot. My vehicle unexplainable is not accelerating and down shifting properly. The last time I used a rental car only part was covered and we had a seatbelt scare because it wasnt securing my child. I desperately seeking resolution and have parked my vehicle for now until I can turn it over to the correct mechanic. Are you able to read error codes? where do I take my vehicle? I feel unsafe as the vehicle is unpredictable. For the fourth time, we almost experienced an accident leaving my parents enroute home. Warranty and autonation are closed. If someone could give me the correct procedure or steps I need to take. Incidents surrounding the service shifter has gone from inconvienant to traumatizing. This is a family vehicle and used to transport children. If someone could please advise. Where should I take my vehicle? how can I be assured problem fixed and vehicle safe to drive? this vehicle acceralates, shifts to neutral, jumps and doesnt properly down shift when prompted. I've taken it in for service 3 times within months and even weeks apart. What do I do next?.
Stationary - whenever someone exits the vehicle, it would continuously beep and display a message saying key fob not detected- but it's sitting in the cup holder. There have been several occasions when I'm stopped at a streetlight and the car would shut off. Dodge has noted the problem, but could not find anything wrong. Ongoing since 2015.
This vehicle has rolled back while in park at least 4 times now. Yesterday being the most severe as I was standing behind the vehicle when unloading groceries in my driveway. The vehicle rolled back over me injuring my leg. Luckily my kids were not behind the vehicle or it could have been really dangerous. I know longer feel safe with this vehicle. It was purchased used through carmax.
Water and condensation on the tail lights.
The rear windshield exploded. On 02. 05. 2018 I used the remote starter to start the car at approximately 6:15 am. The temperature at the time was approximately 25 degrees farenheit in new jersey. As part of remote start the heat and rear windshield are automatically turned on below a certain temperature. I entered the car at approximately 6:22 am and after driving for about 3/4 mile there was a loud explosion. Part of the glass had shattered as well as glass around the perimeter of the rear.
The passenger side tail light collects water. This is the 3rd light assembly that has been replaced and it now has water in it. Research online shows this is a widespread issue with 2014+ Dodge vehicles.
