12 problems related to front air bag sensor control have been reported for the 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Air bag sensor light stayed on. As a result, the horn failed.
First air bag light came on, followed by subsequent failure of horn & cruise control. Our dealership mentioned the clockspring and the air bag module needed replacement. Thanks to the sumarries on this site, we will not be approving the module replacment (an additional cost of about 650). Last eight VIN: xb527782.
The clock spring inside of the steering wheel malfunctioned. As a result the air bag sensor light stayed on and the horn became inoperative. The cruise control was also inoperative and there was a chance that the air bag would not have functioned during a crash.
When turning a corner air bag light went on and off. Then, horn went out, and cruise control failed. Recall 02v293000 was issued for 1996 and 1998, but none for this vehicle.
Air bag warning light came on and horn stopped working. Was told it was a clock spring and needed replaced so both would work properly. Also noticed Dodge had a recall on this item for years 96-98. Well the problem still exsists on the 1999.
Clock spring malfunctioned. As a result, the airbag sensor light stayed on, and horn become inoperative.
The steering wheel in my 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan se started making popping noises whenever I turned the wheel. I brought the vehicle into a Chrysler service center since I have an extended warrenty on it. I was told that the clockspring had gone bad and needed to be replaced. I was also told that this was not covered under warranty. It cost me $250 to get this fixed. I've heard there was an investigation on this being possibly a recall item. At the very least, something like this should be covered under warranty. I have kept the receipt of this problem and would like to be notified if I can get some feedback/reimbursement for this.
Clock assembly faulty on 1999 Grand Caravan. This vehicle is used as a company van. First aiirbag light came on then the cruise control and horn stopped working. Twice in emergency situations the horn did not work. Had clock assembly replaced at a cost of $304. 53. This seems to be a manufacturer problem and a recall should be in place.
I have a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan with the "air bag" light on. I have been told that I need the "clock spring" replaced. There was a recall on this issue with Dodge in 1998 and 1999. I will send feedback to you when I get this fixed. I also will keep the part that is replaced. Many thanks john bousman.
The consumer stated, that the airbag sensor light continued to stay on, horn and cruise control had become inoperative. The dealer was notified. Ts scc.
Consumer stated while traveling without any indication the air bag indication light started flashing and vehicle horn would not sound off. Dealer was contacted and noticed that the clock spring needed to be replaced. Please provide further information. Ts.
Air bag light stays on. There is no horn or cruise control either. Dealer refuses to repair, saying the extended warranty does not cover any air bags or safety restraint system.
