I was driving on a busy main city road at night, traveling around 35 mph when my van shut off and the wipers and horn went crazy. I lost all power steering and brakes. Headlights also cut out. I struggled to get to the side of the road and into a parking lot. The front wipers stopped when I turned the key off, but the back wiper and horn continued for about 10 min. I did not have tools to disconnect the battery. Suddenly there was a flash of all the lights in the car and everything seemed to be back to normal with the exception of the check engine light appearing on the dash. I was able to restart the vehicle and drive another half mile to my home. This is the first time this has happened while driving, that I have lost all engine power and steering, it is not the first time the van has acted out. Wipers will suddenly start moving when I am driving or the horn with suddenly sound and radio will cut out. I have also had it go crazy with windshield wipers moving, horn honking, locks malfunctioning and fluid sprayed all over the car when I unlocked it. My wife once had my kids trapped inside of the care for 10 mins until I could I drive over and disconnected the battery. I have been told it is the tipm acting up. It has happened more than 10 times. I do not trust the vehicle. I have read about many more instances online. This could cause an accident if it was in rush hour or on a busier road.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. While the vehicle was parked and unlocking the doors, the anti-theft alarm engaged and the wipers independently activated. In addition, after turning the vehicle off with the key removed from the ignition, the engine continued to run. The check engine warning light illuminated. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system, air bags); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
We had taken the vehicle to the Chrysler dealership in bloomfield hills, mi 3 days prior to our trip. We had it all checked out, they charged us around 400 for flushes and such, the rest was great and ready according to the dealer. 2 days into our trip, we got a check engine light. We went to the dealership in atlanta, left it for 2 days, and rented a vehicle. They said no issues found. We started for florida only to find the check engine light would always be on after then. When driving back, in kentucky going about 70 miles an hour in the mountains, the gauges all went to 0 and the entire dash went black. This was very scary and I assume unsafe. I maintained my lane and speed, as I was assuming there was no power steering or power brakes for the ten seconds it took for the power to somehow come back. We have lost power on this vehicle multiple times, and Chrysler/Dodge dealerships have attributed it to the key fob. We have had several replacements. This is unacceptable to loose power on a vehicle when driving and multiple dealerships to misdiagnose the problem. Please help. !! :(.
Van was parked in our garage. We got in to go to church and the van would not start!! I put my foot on the brake and it was rock-hard and when I turned the key it just klicked and tried to start then died. I continued to try to start by moving the shift lever/hitting the brake/turning the key and the van started and we went to church. Today, 10/29/14, I parked my van at winn-dixie and went inside to shop. When I returned to leave the same symptoms exhibeted and finally the van started. I called my dealer and was told that it may be associated with the recall on my key fob electronic shifter recall, but there were no parts available yet. I was also asked if there was an engine light that went on and I said no. I was told that then they could not check on their computers for the problem unless the "check engine light" had exhibited. So, here I am--------------------what should I do?????.
I bought a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan XLT on February 3 of 2012 from a local dealer in milwaukee, WI. On that time the mileage of the car was approximately 60000 miles. Two months after I have the car we saw the oil change light coming out on the screen which was unusual for us we took the car to the dealer and they fixed the light. Two months after I saw the engine light on the screen, we took the car to the dealer and they keep the car for 3 days while they made a repair that cost me $850. 0, I made this payment because I trust them when they told me that was going to be the only repair. Weeks after I was on the high way with my whole family and I say smoke coming from the engine and we perceived a strong burn smell, the mileage on that time was approximately 67,000, we just made it to arrive to the dealer service and they found a very low coolant level which means that the overheating was related to the coolant line. Next day I took the car to the service, the car was there for 7 days after I was told that the car needs an engine change which I can't afford to pay. The dealer contacted the manufacturer but all I received from them were 8 oil changes. I received and offer to have another car but the trade value for my car is very low compared to the original price I paid and the new monthly payment is out of my possibilities. I'm driving this car taking the risk for my family with the winter coming. After reading the complaints on the NHTSA I was able to see that I'm not the first owner of a 2008 Grand Caravan with a potential problem of overheating and fire on my car. I need assistance with this case. Thanks.
Going high speed, engine suddenly stops, all lights on dash light up, power steering does not function. This happened (3) times last year. I was fortunate enough to be able to pull over on the PA turnpike but was in danger of being hit as I was traveling in the left lane. Car would not restart. Waited 20 minutes and car did initially restart. However, when it restarted, once driven, it would not shift gears--it was stuck in 1st. (automatic transmission) pulled over again. Waited 10 minutes, started driving, and car functioned but "check engine light" was on. Car was taken to dealer immediately. They initially blamed the fob, which I replaced. When this incident happened again a few months later, it was again taken to dealer and since they could not replicate the problem, they said they could not fix it. In July of this year, started this behavior again but now would not restart after the engine cut off. (again traveling high speed) then the engine cut off a day later while only going 40 miles an hour. Took car to the dealer again and they changed the win module. (but tell me that all three electrical system are registering errors) I paid to replace win module, had car for 1 week, went to start it and there was no response. Had car towed to dealership. Replaced starter relay. Picked car up on a Wednesday and on Thursday, engine shut down on me while doing 20 mph. Again, would not restart. Car currently at dealership but they claim they have no idea what's wrong. This is a hazard!! I feel I am going to die in this car because someone is going to run into me at high speed when I don't have a engine to get out of the way. My young kids are constantly in this car. Dealership throws up their hands and says "I don't know or care if you die in this vehicle we simply can't fix the problem" I am still paying this car off and can't afford another car!.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure and a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter was replaced twice but the failure was not corrected. The check engine warning light remained illuminated. The failure mileage was 79,605 and the current mileage was 85,000.
