1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2021

Van has failed to turn on multiple times, park turn off vehicle and in as little as 10 minutes later it would not start. I replaced alternator and battery apparently after going to multiple mechanics that didn't find the problem with diagnostics I found out it was neither it was a faulty tipm. 6-8 months later started having issues with the car stalling out and having an issue turning back on. I have stalled on multiple occasions on the freeway I have contacted Dodge and the recall is not for my year of vehicle. Parts for this are expensive along with labor. Dodge needs to recall this issue because the last time this happened to me I was driving 60 mph on the freeway car behind me was close and my van stalled could of got hurt or killed and so could the other driver. Brakes need to be changed often as well more than I've ever had to change them for any other vehicle.

2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

Van won't start. No noise at all when I turn the key. The symptom is just like trying to start a car with an automatic transmission while the car is in drive, or there's no sound at all (the van has always been q inin park). Everything else powers up, radio, wipers, lights etc. The battery is new and the alternator is good. Dealership installed a new tipm and the car started for 1 week and died again. I'll never buy an american made vehicle again. Owned the van for 1 month and problem has happened 5 or 6 times previous to the last two times when the van wouldn't start at all.

3 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2020

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced intermittent start-up failures after multiple attempts, without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the alternator was replaced however, the failure persisted. The contact then took the vehicle back to the same mechanic where the fuel pump was replaced. The contact had the vehicle serviced by this independent mechanic a total of eight times and after each repair, the failure persisted. The contact then took the vehicle to key Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram - tobey auto group (2020 n detroit st, xenia, OH 45385) where the dealer was able to diagnose the vehicle with a defective totally integrated power module. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2018

Saturday 15, 2018 my family and I were driving back from the mall, I was driving at about 55 miles an hour when the vehicle stalled and just died in the middle of the highway without any warnings or signals on the dash. I managed to use the momentum and pulled over to the shoulder, it restarted after 9 times try. Thankfully we were able to make it home. A month before vehicle was parked in driveway and it wouldn't start, towed it to mechanic and replaced alternator. Till now vehicle always stalls when slowing down or coming to stop. This vehicle acts like it have been taken over by supernatural forces and what happened last Saturday was very scary to my family. I have read a lot of the same complaints on this site about this vehicle and it is very upsetting that the maker have not taken responsibility in addressing this safety issue. I wonder how many people will have to die first before they address this safety issue. Let it be clear I will sue, god forbid any happen.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2018

The van cut off while driving. Eeverytime, I tried to start it, the instrument panel said "no fuse. " I had it looked at by a mechanic and he said that my alternator and battery were dead. After they were replaced, the car started up and I drove it to work. On the way to work, while the car was driving, all of the lights in the car went out and the instrument panel reset itself (date, time, and trip computer) after about 5 seconds. This repeated itself every 15 minutes or so, until the car cut off. I refastened the battery connectors, got the car a jump, and it started to run. I parked the car. Later, I got in and started it with no problem. The next day, I went to start the car and it wouldnt start. I got a jump and it started up again. Driving into work, the car cut off while I was driving on the street. I had to steer to the side of the road to get to safety. The worst thing about it all, is that when the electrical system fails, the key gets stuck in the ignition, and you can not shift into neutral if you need to push the car off the road. I have read multiple reviews about this car's electrical system, but it is a danger to everyone on the road for a car to consistently have electrical problems, especially ones that cause it to cut off while driving. This needed to be addressed before anyone gets hurt.

7 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2018

More then a dozen times our vehicle has completely shut off while in motion going straight at various speeds causing loss of power steering and putting us in unsafe conditions. The a/c will blow hot air in half the vehicle and the radio has turned up the volume to full and the controls are inoperative to turn it down. I feel the dealer intentionally did not tell us about the known tipm issue and told us we had to replace the alternator which we did with no help in correcting the issue. This has been ongoing for a few months. I dont have the vehicle with me and am guessing on the mileage also this happened on multiple dates so I entered one of the random dated below.

8 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle spontaneously downshifted and stalled. Also, the alternator warning indicator illuminated. A towing company jumpstarted the battery and the contact was able to drive the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

9 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2017

The vehicle has 92,000 miles and when traveling last month the alternator went out. Was told at the dealership that fixed it there have been some alternators recalled. With parts and labor the bill was $797. 77. They said ours was not on recall list. How do I get reimbursed for surprise expense.

10 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2017

The battery light illuminated on the instrument panel. Shortly afterwards, the traction control, abs, and air bag lights illuminated and the rpms fluctuated while driving my kids to summer camp out of town. When I arrived to my destination the car would not restart due to the battery being dead. I got a jump start and was able to make it to a local store to replace the battery at a cost of $163 and make it home. The next day I still have the same issues. Many others have had the same problem and it would appear this is a common problem. I will be making an appointment to have the vehicle towed to the dealer. I am sure it is the alternator and I will need to replace as others have done. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle is not even paid for yet and the failure mileage was just over 52,000. I really hope this issue will be investigated soon.

11 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2016

My van suddenly shut-down at highway speed (70 mph) with cruise control engaged due to alternator failure which placed my wife, myself and others on the highway in extreme danger of collision. Luckily we were in right lane and were able to coast onto the shoulder. The engine would not restart (nothing - no sounds, only bright whiteout of dashboard) - tow was required. Sudden sequence of events - charging system light illuminated shortly followed by abs light, electronic stability control light, cruise control would not disengage, engine uncontrollably accelerated / decelerated leading to engine shutting down and dashboard going to total bright whiteout. This alternator failure is identical to NHTSA campaign #14v634000 / fca recall #p60. My Grand Caravan has under 39,000 miles - 3. 6 liter engine / 160 amp alternator same as recall for other Dodge models built in same year as my Grand Caravan. Repairs made following day (9/6/16) at tyson Chrysler Dodge Jeep / shorewood, IL - alternator failure, removed and replaced alternator.

12 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2016

Bought this van used in January 2016. We had it towed to the shop within a week of purchasing. The dash lights and headlights were flickering while driving. When braking the instrument panel, radio/navigation system and dvd player would shut down and restart itself. They eventually said there was a short in the transmission causing the vehicle to become stuck in 4th gear. It was fine for a month or so, but started doing the same things again. This time the alternator was replaced. Again it was fine for a short time. We let the problem continue without taking it to the shop until it started dying. At first it was only dying when stopped at a traffic light or stop sign. Once I was not able to immediately restart. Then it started dying while driving down the road. Both times were instances of deceleration. The dealership said it was recording events of low voltage. After having it for a week, they told us there was a malfunction within the new alternator and put a new one in. The day after we picked it up it started shutting the electronics down again. Clearly the alternator did not solve the problem. We also had the alternator tested on our own the first time this happened in January as we thought that could be the problem and the alternator tested fine.

13 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Battery light came on while driving kids to school. Drove a short distance home(5mi). Tested battery and alternator. Voltage on both appeared within normal ranges. Let vehicle idle within my driveway with the lights/radio/heater on. Battery was dead within 20min.

15 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2015

While driving my 2012 3. 6l Dodge Grand Caravan with a 160 amp alternator the battery light came on, within 5 miles the transmission control system stopped working. Further all of the system lights on the dash came on and the radio and hvac system stopped functioning. The cause of these system conditions was the denso tn421000-0770 alternator failing. I believe that this is the same alternator that is used on vehicles that are included in NHTSA recall no. : 14v-634. Chrysler claims that the alternator fails only on cars that are equipped with ehps. I believe that my alternator failed in a similar fashion to this recall. The Dodge and Chrysler minivans that are equipped with a 3. 6l engine and the denso 160 amp alternator should be recalled. In the end my car stalled in the middle of the road which could have resulted in a terrible accident had I been on the highway.
