general problems of the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan - part 2

It cut off while driving.

Over the past 2 months our 2012 Grand Caravan has been having an unknown issue. We will be driving along normally then the power and engine will all cut out this has happened in multiple environments from crossing railway tracks to running down a smooth road, thankfully this has not happened yet on the highway, we are left coasting with no power steering or anything until we can safely stop put the van in park and restart the engine. The van restarts every time straight away with no problems. The other day before we took the van to the local Dodge dealership for them to investigate the issue, the console stayed with no power but I was able to start the engine, the fan and radio also worked at this point, after driving 5 to 10 meters the dash console came up with all the gauges working again. It has now been to the dealership twice now and they are unable to replicate the issue or know of a cause. After reviewing forums it seems that other van's from various years are having the same issue. Sometimes when it does it, it catches itself at the last second and the engine stays on and the console comes back up to normal though this is maybe a 1 in 5 occurrence. One of the times it happened we put our fixd in the care and the screenshot attached is what information it showed, the dealership only found 1 of these 4 fault codes.

My fuel pump kept running when the car was off and the key was out it was the tipm computer that was bad I bypassed the tipm when this was fixed at Dodge now my battery light is coming on its a brand new battery and alternator and im being told its the tipm. It also was effecting acceleration it would ramp up rpm but speed would not change this issue occured while in motion driving on a freeway.

We just bought a used 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan with about 99,000 miles. When I drove it the next morning, I made a turn onto the road when it completely shut off. It alarmed me. I turned the key to the off position and then back on and it started up again. I didn't think much of it until today (2 days later) when my husband called me concerned that the car stopped on him as he was turning onto a different road. He had our 2 yr. Old and 7 month old in the car, so that really concerned me for their safety.

Rod bearing failure due to debri in oil. Recall reference #11v487000.

My car stopped running. Luckily I was able to get it to the mechanics. The engine had to be rebuilt due to engine block debris. This is a recall for 2012 Grand Caravans but only manufactured until Aug 2011. My vehicle was manufactured in April 2012. The recall number is l33. I have spent $5,734 in repairs. I've waiting in hopes Dodge would extend the recall but they have not.

Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph the vehicle engine completely shut off. The contact coasted mostly off the highway to the shoulder and was able to restart the vehicle after a few minutes. The dealer and the manufacturer had not been contacted. The VIN tool could not pull up the VIN provided by the contact. The failure mileage was 128,090. Tf.

Bad ingnition module. Van turns randomly off by it self while driving. If you push on the fob in the ingnition it will start to run again. When van turns off you lose control of the power steering and brakes making it difficult to come to a safe stop. Same issues that Dodge recalled other model years for but not the Grand Caravan. It has occured numerous times to us in this van.

The van cut off while driving. Eeverytime, I tried to start it, the instrument panel said "no fuse. " I had it looked at by a mechanic and he said that my alternator and battery were dead. After they were replaced, the car started up and I drove it to work. On the way to work, while the car was driving, all of the lights in the car went out and the instrument panel reset itself (date, time, and trip computer) after about 5 seconds. This repeated itself every 15 minutes or so, until the car cut off. I refastened the battery connectors, got the car a jump, and it started to run. I parked the car. Later, I got in and started it with no problem. The next day, I went to start the car and it wouldnt start. I got a jump and it started up again. Driving into work, the car cut off while I was driving on the street. I had to steer to the side of the road to get to safety. The worst thing about it all, is that when the electrical system fails, the key gets stuck in the ignition, and you can not shift into neutral if you need to push the car off the road. I have read multiple reviews about this car's electrical system, but it is a danger to everyone on the road for a car to consistently have electrical problems, especially ones that cause it to cut off while driving. This needed to be addressed before anyone gets hurt.

More then a dozen times our vehicle has completely shut off while in motion going straight at various speeds causing loss of power steering and putting us in unsafe conditions. The a/c will blow hot air in half the vehicle and the radio has turned up the volume to full and the controls are inoperative to turn it down. I feel the dealer intentionally did not tell us about the known tipm issue and told us we had to replace the alternator which we did with no help in correcting the issue. This has been ongoing for a few months. I dont have the vehicle with me and am guessing on the mileage also this happened on multiple dates so I entered one of the random dated below.

I send my vehicle to freehold Dodge dealer after many days the dealer didn't do anything because my vehicle under warranty and the corporate doesn't pay well to the dealer I don't know where I can file complain.

My engine keeps misfiring all the cylinders and I have changed multiple cylinders. While the vehicle was in motion the lights on the inside illuminated and the vehicle stopped in traffic. The engine light came on and I took it to get the codes read and it said p301, p302, p303, p304. I have got this fixed multiple times because it keeps happening.

I have continuous problems out of this vehicle, sensors, and the vehicle down shifts regular on a strait way, and up slight hills, loses speed ,extreme loss of fuel mileage.

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving at low speeds, the vehicle caught fire. The contact was not injured. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not towed to a local dealer. The contact called 911 when the vehicle burst into flames. The battery was disconnected on the scene. The vehicle was taken to a local body shop the following day, but was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 82,000.

My daughter made an attempt to start the vehicle, one night after community theater rehearsal, to drive home and found the vehicle would not start and she heard random relays chattering throughout the vehicle, had the windshield wipers move, the instrument panel lights flickered on/off along with displaying error codes "no fuse" and "no bus". The fuel pump could be heard running, even with the key off and she said the van acted like it was possessed. Based on online information, I replaced the crankshaft position sensor, which was listed as a top culprit in the problem and that solved nothing. Further research indicated the tipm unit is most likely the cause and we found that her make/model of vehicle is part of a lawsuit for this problem.

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving 35 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated and the temperature gauge showed that the vehicle was very hot. In addition, the electronic throttle control indicator illuminated. After pulling the vehicle over to the side of the road and allowing it to cool down, the contact checked the coolant and noticed a sludge like substance instead of coolant. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 119,000.

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle lost power without warning. The vehicle was able to be restarted and operated normally. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure could not be diagnosed or repaired. The failure occurred three times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,196.

My van is only 3 years old and have had to replace the battery in sept 2015. It's mid November and now I'm having trouble with the battery dying frequently. I went to where I purchased the battery from and they checked the battery and said it's fine. The motor ranks without starting 2-3 times before finally starting. I believe this is because of the fuel pump or fuel pump relay. The relays chatter a lot and the fuel pump sounds much different now than it did when I purchased the vehicle. It's as if the battery is being g drained slowly because of either the fuel pump or fuel pump relay or both. I am a certified aircraft and auto mechanic with electrical troubleshooting capabilities. I have yet to approach the Dodge dealer with this because it has only happened twice so far with me being at work while my wife has had to deal with this issue both times so far.

On January 4th, while pulling into a neighbor's driveway, I tapped the brakes to stop (I was going less than 5mph, so I didn't need to press hard) the engine suddenly accelerated hard. I immediately slammed on the brakes harder to stop the acceleration, and my van ended up five to ten feet in my neighbor's yard. Two weeks later, I was pulling into a parking space at my son's work. I was moving slow and straightening the wheel approximately two to three feet from the sidewalk curb, when the engine acceleration surged and my van lurched forward. I again slammed on the brakes in order to not slam into the building wall just past the sidewalk, the van stopped on top of the sidewalk after hitting the the car parked next to my van (as my wheels were still turned from turning into the parking space. The damage to my van and the car hit by my van totaled over $10,000. If a pedestrian had been on the sidewalk in front of my van, they would have been seriously injured or killed. Both times the engine unexpectedly surged, my foot was on the brake, and the van was traveling less than 2 to 3 miles per hour. When the acceleration surged the van forward, it was extremely hard and fast as if the accelerator had been pounded to the floorboard. I have checked with my local Dodge dealer, who states there is no problem with this van and they have had absolutely no complaints about unexpected and powerful acceleration on the Dodge Grand Caravan. I find this hard to believe as there are many other reports on Dodge forum boards stating this exact unexpected and dangerous acceleration. I am afraid to drive my 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan.

When idling, a ratteling sound came from engine, it was continuous with any speed. Took vehicle to Dodge dealer in ventura, CA for repair. They stated it was some type of plate in engine and was ordering part. Was supposed to get my van back within 3 days but "part was still being tracked" after 3 days of calling for status. Around June 27th we finally asked for a rental. Dodge said they would pay for rental and I would pay for gas. Was supposed to have rental for about 3 days. Around July 1st we were told still working on vehicle, they would call us if it was finished that night, no call back. It is now July 8th and they still have our vehicle. Over the weekend we received a letter from Chrysler stating our warranty was extended to 10 years, 100,000 miles due to engine heads. We were never told anything about engine heads by Dodge, and still have not heard back, still have rental. Shouldn't this be a recall, instead of just extension of warrant? sounds fishy to us. . . Thank you for your time.

Engine runs very rough, idles low almost dies at intersections. Does not have power when gas pedal is pused down, looses power while driving as well. These vans have something majorly wrong with the engines and transmissions. Dodge needs to investigate and recall/repair these vans. They are harzards. I cannot wait to be rid of mine before something happens to me and my four children. Doesn't sound like I'm the only one with the problems either. Maybe Dodge/Chrysler is going to be like gm and let people die before repair a minor part. Very dissappointed in this vehicle. It will be my last Dodge purchase.

My 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan been in the shop 3 times for transmission problems it's no good. I don't know what to do about this but, I don't want to keep on paying a car note for a car that is going to give out and any giving time. It's not going to last long. I want a new car free of charge.

1. Vehicle drags to the right. 2. Engine loses power at times 45mph and or 60 mph 3. It seems there is gear shift problem based on item 2. Stevens creek Chrysler Jeep Dodge, 4100 stevens crreek blvd, san jose, CA 95129 I have taken it to dealership several times and latest being: 8/20/2014 invoice #184949 mileage :6669 they did find the problem and did suspension repairs. They say they were unable duplicate problem of losing power - it seems they did not do test drive at all obviously from mileage record! I took it again with same complaint on 11/12/2014 and they say everything looks okay it is just road crowning on the right lane causes it. Again they could not find or duplicate loss of power and shifting. I am terribly afraid of driving this vehicle with family and friends even though mileage is less than 9000 miles in 3 years. Warranty expires on 7/21/2015. Please help me to resolve these issues and safety of driver and passengers.
