The contact owns a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was coasted to the shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle was then coasted into a nearby parking lot. While coasting into the parking lot, the vehicle jerked and bucked abnormally. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. In addition, the contact stated that the transmission was replaced by the dealer three times within 107,000 miles. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.
I purchased this van from a used car lot in December of 2025. After driving it for a little over 2 weeks the check engine light came on. My mechanic did a computer check on it and it showed that the transmission is bad. Apparently, through much investigation work on my part, the warranty I paid for on the vehicle is “void” because the dealer that I purchased it from was well aware that it needed a transmission! they reset the computer according to what I was able to find out, and then sold it to me. It’s a 2019 model and for the transmission to be in need of replacement already, I’m questioning why! I’m surprised that no other owners have evidently had this issue. Please let me know if there have been other owners that have experienced transmission issues in this van. Thank you.
09/26/2024 transmission had to be replaced at 47,000 miles. Without warning, the van began lurching forward at a stop light almost causing a collision and then completely stalled having to be towed to the shop. Luckily, I bought a service plan and only had to pay $100, but the parts list was $6,000+. Sliding rear doors have the electric assist option. On several occasions myself and my children have nearly been closed in the door as it malfunctions and randomly starts closing. Once I was getting my child out of the car seat when the door began closing on me, it did not stop closing as it met the resistance of my body. I have not had this issue serviced, as it is very intermittent. 10/28/2025 my driver's side headrest exploded. Thankfully no one was injured and I wasn't driving at the time. This could have caused a really dangerous situation had the vehicle been in motion. I was in the parking lot with nothing touching the headrest. Looking at the headrest there are jagged pieces of plastic that just crumbled to bits. Upon further investigation, this is a known issue with this type of vehicle, but it's not a recall. 70,000 miles. I'm waiting to see what the bill for this repair will be, but I'm concerned it is going to be replaced with the same malfunctioning equipment and I may not be so lucky next time this happens.
At 99500 the transmission went kaputt! repair man says metal shavings obstructed flow of fluid, through the filter, into the transmission, not allowing for running the car forward or backward. Very dangerous as we were driving down a highway when it just stopped working. Vehicle is only 6 years old. Why would this happen so soon?.
2019 Dodge van gt when driving in about 2/3 gears(automatic trans. ) was slipping and hesitating around August 2025. In July 2025 I decided to have the trans. Fluid and filter exchanged. The dealership was said it was on the schedule for it to be done. After that is when the problem started. Took back to dealership and they ran some tests and noticed the problem. The tech told me to drive it for a while that could be that the transmission needed to get use to the new fluid. It started getting worse. I took it to a transmission shop. They said the fluid was burnt and they needed to open the transmission to look closer. $1500 to check. They said they found issues. Total cost to repair/rebuild would be $6700. I thought it was a lot but it’s my main vehicle and needed it. The van has 92k miles and the transmission should not go out that soon. I’m filing a complaint because I believe the transmission should last longer than it did.
Transmission had a complete failure on July 24, 2025. There were no warning signs it was operating fine until that moment. Odometer 86,948. Had van towed to my mechanics shop where he diagnosed the problem. A new factory trans was ordered and installed at a cost of $6,316. 23.
My wife drove to and from a doctor's appointment. When she went to leave the vehicle did a hard jolt and would not drive anymore. There was no indication or prior warning lights about the transmission. Had it towed to a shop. Did my research and between 2016 -2018 there was a known issue with power trains on the Dodge Grand Caravan.
I have the oil changed regularly and keep all records and receipts. I've had the coolant and transmission fluid flushed, the thermostat changed twice, the coolant temperature sensor changed, the oil cooler changed and I checkmy transmission fluid regularly. My van was over heating frequently and no one could figure out why. I changed the coolant our and the temp. Sensor. It doesn't overheat now, but the heater quit working the day it was changed out. It hard shifts from 40 mph and up. Transmission fluid is good. I reset the power module by unhooking the battery for an hour. Still hard shifts . Scanner doesn't bring up any codes. 98,800 miles on it. Back sliding doors won't lock and tire sensor and radio dont work. What can I do? I cant afford a new transmission. The van was bought 2020 and for $19,000. I'm broke.
The contact owns a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the vehicle made an abnormal sound, hesitated while responding, and the transmission shifted hard. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving at various speeds, and the vehicle felt like it was going to stall. The contact stated that while coming to a complete stop, the vehicle jerked, the transmission shifted hard and made an abnormal clunking sound. Additionally, the contact stated that the passenger's side sliding door automatic locking mechanism was inoperable, requiring the contact to manually unlock and lock the door with the interior door lever. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
My van has only 88,509 miles. In the middle of a snowstorm, when I was 200 miles from home, it died. It had weird noises during the day, but the engine light had not come on at all. As I was trying to get to my mother's house in blinding snow, it simply stopped on a hill on a dark road. I was terrified. I had to rent a car to get back to NJ (which cost $100). I had my van towed to a Dodge dealership in vestal, NY where I was quoted $9000 to replace the transmission. See attached. This problem seems to be a known issue with the 2019 Grand Caravan based on research online, and I am concerned that Dodge has not adequately addressed this major transmission defect. I rejected the $9000 repair cost and had my van towed to a small town garage and I am still waiting for them to finish it. They estimated $4000. I have not gotten my van back yet so I do not know the final diagnosis/repair cost.
The transmission failed. Yes, it is available for inspection. My safety and the safety of others were put at risk because the vehicle lost all forward propulsion as I was pulling into busy, fast moving traffic. The vehicle is pending repair at this time. There were no warning lamps or other symptoms. There was a loud pop, the rpm's immediately skyrocketed until the rev limiter was activated, and the vehicles was immediately disabled in the middle of oncoming traffic.
Cylinder 2 misfire code p0302. I replaced the spark plugs, coil, and injector. Code still remains. Vehicle seems to run fine.
Transmission pump failure. Same issue as previously recalled models from 2013-2017. Transmission failed while driving. Vehicle will no longer shift. Vehicle is maintained properly and up to date on all other repairs/maintenance. Code pulled at mechanic is p1790. No response from Dodge. Any interaction is either ended by their representative disconnecting or rerouting me to a department that has no clue what to do.
I was driving down the road at about 40 mph when the transmission suddenly went out, posing a safety risk to not only myself, but other drivers on the road. It went out of gear, wouldn't go back in, and luckily enough, I was on a town road and not a highway. I had my vehicle towed and a transmission repair shop confirmed the entire transmission was completely blown out, which is ridiculous for a 5-year-old vehicle. Despite having over 150,000 miles, this still shouldn't be an issue. Besides the obvious safety risks, I'm now left with an over $5,000 repair bill.
Transmission went out.
I had the check engine light on for an unknown amount of time, as the initially lookover of the vehicle with the dealership advised it was a gascap sensor. However, they did attempt to fix by changing the sparkplugs when it was inspected June 2024 which didn't correct the issue. Since then, it has been looked at by 2 mechanic shops due to the following problem. When I drive at 40+ mph, the car starts shaking violently. When ran with diagnostic/ testing the engine, it was found that cylinder 2 keeps misfiring/ has a pressure issue, even after replacing the spark plugs and the fuel injector. Even after replacing those components, the cylinder misfire , lowered compression, and the shaking while driving all still persisted. They suggested fixing the issue with replacing the entire engine and avoiding driving until then, as driving it could potentially cause the engine to stop working while driving/ cause an accident. The dealership advised the engine issue would fall under the powertrain. It is available for review, as I have avoided driving it since, due to worries that the car will either stop working while I drive it, or the engine could result in an accident.
P1790,p0868,p083b, p0736, p0733 codes. Transmission went bad. See attached invoice for more details.
Drove it one day and it was fine, then next day I went on my lunch break and it lost power, I pull in a parking lot put it park then tried to pull it in reverse and it would only go into neutral. After a couple times it have went into reverse but found out the transmission has to be replaced. Only 110,000 miles.
May 30, 2024 to whom it may concern: this is to report a very serious matter on the 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan. The vehicle vehicle has an issue with the transmission. It shifts very rough. To make it worse, when driving on bad traffic, the minivan gets stuck on one gear after several stops and goes, the transmission seems to overheating and gets stuck on one gear.
10/2020 - bought this van at findlay Honda in henderson, relied upon carfax report provided by the dealer that no manufacture recalls reported to carfax. Vehicle qualifies for the carfax buyback program. [xxx] - @ around 1am I was driving at [xxx] towards [xxx] when the van lose power and was forced to parked near a safety zone. Waited out for an hour and was able to arrived home safely. 02/24/24 - called findlay Honda about the incident but was told it was not covered by an extended warranty. Was told to call towbin Dodge henderson. The van was towed by agero towing to towbin Dodge for diagnosis. 02/29/24 - towbin Dodge henderson confirmed that the automatic transmission failed and must be replaced and fix for $8,100+ coz it's no longer covered by a manufacturer's warranty for driving 60,298 miles. The vehicle was not inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives. [xxx] - I noticed a dashboard warning to change oil so I went to a mechanic friend for change oil that day. Went back to mechanic on 02/21/24 because the warning for change oil still popping up. Ask to check the transmission oil and showed me the oil level is proper and color is red. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My engine light came on reading stated #2 misfire. I have had spark plugs, wires, coil boot intake gaskets replaced. Now #2 misfire is reading a permanent code. I need to know why this is not a recall on my van there are reports of thousands of Dodges having this happen and has become quite costly for me. I'm afraid to drive the vehicle because it could apparently cause my valves to crack and cost a large amount of money to repair I'm almost 65 years old very sickly, I also still make payments on the vehicle.
The vehicle has a permanent cylinder 2 misfire. The misfire has at times produced an unexpected change in the vehicle's acceleration which could be dangerous in certain traffic conditions. The vehicle has been inspected by an independent service center who determined that the source of the misfire is either a mechanical component inside the engine or part of the valve train. I have been told that this issue could result in sudden engine lockup during operation.
The contact owns a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the vehicle lost automotive power before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The transmission was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 260,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, the vehicle shifted into neutral and stalled. The rpm increased to high. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. While driving at undisclosed speeds, there was an abnormal whistling noise detected. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that there was no recall coverage for the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000. The VIN was not available.
Complete transmission failure at 87,447 miles. All recommended maintenance completed with local Dodge dealership. Denied any warranty help due to mileage. Transmission issues are common with this vehicle but Dodge will not offer any assistance outside of limited powertrain warranty.
64398 miles, transmission failure. Complete failure in about 5 miles from first hearing a whining type noise till barely being able to move. Dealership said not covered under warranty because we are 4398 miles over.
Vehicle has been well maintained. It has 71,xxx miles. With no warning or indication of problems, we had complete transmission failure. It worked fine, we exited highway and it was noisy. Within 2 miles, the transmission was slipping (jerking van) and then totally went out (won't accelerate at all). Still no warning lights. Towed and repair center said complete transmission failure. Looking online, this has happened to multiple people in very similar fashion (no indication of issue to being undriveable within minutes). For a vehicle with 71,xxx miles and being 3 years old, this is terrible. . . Still a substantial loan in place :(.
Hard misfire and rough idle creating issues while in traffic, almost rear ended multiple times because of loss of acceleration. Inspection by mechanic says misfire in cylinder 2 couldn't be fixed. (multiple coils and spark plug replacements) mechanice made contact with a gm certified mechanic who indicated this is a common problem in the 3. 6 engine used in these vehicles. Issue is deep within engine and requires complete engine replacement. It was explained to me that the engine could keep going as-is, or debris could begin breaking off inside the engine and cause total loss at any time. Researched and found similar issue with 2012 engines.
While driving vehicle it began to made a horrible noise and then stalled in the middle of the road while driving. Was able to restart and move out of the way but stalled again. Car would no longer move into drive. No warning lights came on until after the car stalled for the second time. Then the check engine light came on. Previous to this occurrence the car was running perfectly fine and gave no warnings that the transmission was going out. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic where they stated the transmission blew. Upon finding this out vehicle was towed to a Dodge dealership where we were informed warranty was expired. Vehicle only has 73,000 miles on it.
Transmission failed while driving on the highway without prior warning and the vehicle had to be towed home. The vehicle had limited power left to pull off the highway for safety though. What I hear when I start and rev the engine a bit is high pitched whining noise and noise of separated or lose components coming from inside the transmission. Research has shown me that this same drive train has been running in Chrysler and Dodge vehicles for about ten years now and has seen recalls on the transmission for some earlier model years like 2015, 2016, … . This is a big safety issue given that this vehicle seats seven people (families rely on this van for transportation) and therefore Chrysler should add this vehicle drive train to the recall list ASAP. After failing the the check engine light popped up and running it on the generic scan tool code p083b showed up.
I was in line at a fast food drive thru when a strange noise began coming from under my hood. When I went to drive forward, the engine revved but the vehicle didn’t move at first. It finally jerked into gear and I proceeded to exit the line and to a stop sign before driving onto the main road. I had no problem taking off from the stop sign but as I was accelerating on the main road, I got up to about 35mph and the vehicle revved again, but this time it stopped moving in the middle of the road. The car behind me blew their horn and ran off the road to a avoid rear-ending me. There was no cel illuminated and no other warning or indication of a problem. I got off the road and turned the engine off. I turned it back on and took the back streets home and parked it. I had the transmission filter and fluid changed, and all was well for about another 200 miles. As I was driving about 60 miles an hour on a highway, I again lost forward motion and the engine revved to about 5000 rpm’s. I immediately steered off the highway to avoid a collision. Again, there no malfunction indicator light illuminated. After careful inspection by a certified technician, it was determined that the transaxle oil pump has failed. The vehicle is available for inspection at yours or your representative’s convenience.
The contact owns a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle jerked and independently stopped. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with rear transmission seal failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact stated that the transmission was replaced in 2022, 2023, and may of 2025. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact requested a buy-back; however, the request was denied. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
Cylinder misfire #2 is a permanent code. The first time I got it fixed the car just stopped with no warning I couldn't get it to start unless the driver door was open. The shop had it for am entire month and had a new head rebuilt 2 weeks later the light was back on. It would go off and on for the next year, we changed filters, plug, gasket. After I got it inspected last year when the light turned off for a day that was the last time it was off. I haven't been able to get it inspected yet it's over due. 2019 was 5 years ago I've never had these problems with any other vehicles that's 10+ older. They need to do something they know what's going on it happened it 2012 and they discontinued the vans in 2020. They need to make it right. The engine is not safe it randomly loosed acceleration or occasionally gains it. I'm afraid of crashing into someone or being stranded somewhere or it dying in the middle of the road. I need this vehicle I'm still paying for it and don't really have other options to for other transportation while this one gets into a shop.
Car shakes which feels like first 3 gears during acceleration. As if riding over spike strip.
