This complaint was in regard to the driver's frame seat breaking on a 2002 Dodge caravan while the vehicle was in operation. To me this was a serious safety issue. A call to Chrysler corporation was unsuccessfully as the company will not cover this loss due to mileage, which should not be a factor in the driver's seat coming apart.

My car was rear ended by a large pickup on the freeway. Immediately on impact the driver's side seat back went into a reclined position. Therefore, the only safety device operational was the lap belt as the shoulder belt and head rest depend on the seat back to be of any use and the airbag only deploys in a front end crash. This led to my upper body being jerked all over the front of the car. Dodge's response is that the seat back is supposed to do this in a rear end crash. I find this rather incredible as that leaves only the lap belt functional.
My wife and 3 children, in a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan were hit in the rear while stopped at a red light. The driver seat broke, and collapsed to the full recline position during the wreck. This has caused my wife to have back, neck, head, and a left knee injury. I told Dodge about this seat, so they sent an investigator out, then wrote me back saying the seat was not broke but bent, and that I had no claim. When I went to pick the car up from the body shop, the owner showed me the seat, pulled the cover down to see that the metal tube was split in two. I took the seat to the local Dodge dealership, and they too agreed the seat broke. Now, I have the seat and pictures. The only way to actually see the seat back is broken, is to pull the cloth material away to see it. The body shop owner said the Dodge investigator never looked inside the seat. Although, I could tell it was broken when I arrived at the accident, by the way the seat back was kind of twisted, and tweaked over to one side. There have been lawsuits in the past on Chrysler/Dodge because these seat have killed babies in a baby carrier behind the driver seat because of these seat reclining back, and yet Dodge is in denial.

Hit from behind and both ours seats broke. Reported to Dodge and they told us seats were designed to deflect rearward so as to absorb impact. They failed to tell us how we are suppose to bring vehicle to a stop or to keep from going to oncoming traffic as we were flat on our backs. Just don't believe that logic. It sounds like a defect to me.

Driver seatback failure. While the vehicle was stationary in a parking lot, the driver climbed into the driver seat, and the seat back spontaneously failed. The seat back collapsed onto the child passenger seated behind the driver, causing slight superficial injury. Examination showed that the seat back suffered metal sheer and spot weld failure. Vehicle was stationary at the time of the seat back failure, and had not been in any previous accident, nor had the seat ever been replaced. This was the original manufacturer's seat.

Drivers seat-back reclining lever broke away from the seat frame causing seat to remain in an upright position.
While the vehicle was in motion, my 8 year old son was sitting in a child booster seat in one of the 2nd row removeable captain's chairs. He lifted his left foot which caught on the seat release mechanism. This accidentally disengaged the mechanism that locks the chair to the floor. The chair's lock released and the chair was no longer secured to the floor. We had to stop the vehicle and relatch the seat. The latch is difficult to engage but very easy to disengage. There is nothing that protects the mechanism from accidental release. Mr.
