The car was parked in the driveway. I was sitting on the driver side middle seat, not sitting back, as the seat was reclined too far for me to sit with my back against the back of the seat. When I was trying to bring the seat back forward from the leaned back position, the head rest came down and slammed into my neck it's as if the mechanism thought the seat were going to be stowed into the floor. I have been suffering from a massive headache since this happened. I will be going to my doctor when I return home, to see if there is any serious injury. There was nothing conclusive in the diagnosis. This needs to be addressed, as it could cause severe injury.

The rear back seat folded in on our 11 year old son when I came to a quick stop (traveling <20mph). He was ok, and we will not be using that seat as we discovered that it will not actually lock into an upright position. If this had occurred in an accident at greater speeds I'm certain that this defect would have resulted in significant injury and/or death.

On several occasions, the latest being today, the seats have attacked passengers by springing forward in a very unsavory manner. On the rear bench seat, the headrest when in locked mode will release with a fury only known to the most vicious of creation smashing into the head of the guest. The middle seat has an equally nasty vertical effect that almost broke my tween's nose today as she was adjusting the seat. Dodge needs to look at the spring action on all of the seat components and recall all vehicles with stow and go seats and lesson the strength of the seat reclining springs.

Cpsc: i1470304a. 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. Consumer stated while trying to fold down the rear seat it came slamming down on his hand. The consumer stated he followed the numbered straps as instructed and the last strap made the seat slam down on his hand, which was placed on the top of the rear bumper as stability and leverage for reaching in to pull the straps. The skin on his hand was torn. It took several doctor visits and x-rays to determine the bone was not broken, but there was a deep contusion.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan. The vehicle was
running for approximately 2 hours with the stow and go rear seats depressed down into the floor. While parked, the contact touched the metal bars that were exposed on the back of the seats and was burned. The manufacturer was notified and informed him that they would send an investigator to examine the vehicle. The vehicle was neither examined nor repaired. The failure and current mileages were 140,000. Updated 11/16/10.

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan. The third row seat had buttons to fold it down. The buttons were very easy to touch , so the children can easily fold down the seats. There was no stop button, so the seats would keep folding. The seat almost "crushed" her child seat. She had not contacted the dealer or the manufacturer . The current mileage was 12,899. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.

I recently purchased a 2008 Dodge caravan and discovered that I couldn't get all the car seats in. We called several friends to see what they do, and they say that they gave up after getting bloody knuckles trying to put the seats in and now don't use one. The car manufacturers claim that because there are 7 seat-belts that it is a seven passenger vehicle. This leads to parents getting frustrated because they can't fit the car seats, so they let their child go without. The back seat has 3 seat belts but it is impractical to get 3 car seats, or booster seats in. There is a gap in what the safety guidelines require and what the manufacturers are selling. This leads to parents giving up and children suffering the consequences. I am a fireman and experience won't let me give in to letting my children travel unsafely. Surely, the manufacturers can add 4-5 inches of hip room, allowing 3 child seats to fit where there are 3 seat belts.
I have not been able to properly secure a convertible care seat in the rear facing position in the stop-n-go seats, even utilizing the latch system. I have tried two different seats. I can not get the seat to the require level with the ground as indicated on the seat and cannot get it secure enough to prevent the seat from moving more than an inch.
I reached in through the right side door to get a blanket that was stuck in the back seat, and I pulled the #1 strap on the back seat with my left hand, the back of the seat slammed down onto my right hand, hyperextending my thumb, fracturing it and causing a partial tear in the ligament.
We rented a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan with the "stow and go" seats. The seat back for the second row seats returns to the down position under considerable spring pressure. On three occasions, members of my family were struck in the face by the headrest when the seat back was released by raising the lever on the outside of the seat. In one case, my daughter was struck in the jaw when she bent over to release the seat back. I was struck in the face twice: once on the left side and once on the right side. In both cases my glasses were torn from my face. Even though these were ansi z87 safety glasses, they were thrown a considerable distance and damaged by the impact. Being renters of the vehicle, we were not familiar with potential problems and had not been advised by the rental agency to watch out for the seats. For myself, I consider the spring loading to be an unfortunate design choice. The seat back appears to pack a considerable punch.
On 6/13/04 we test drove a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan with the stow and go seats. The back seat has a 60/40 split and the 40 section was down when we looked at the vehicle on the lot. We pulled the seat up for my four year old to sit in with his booster. As my husband accelerated to get on the highway that section of the seat flipped backwards. The sales rep. Unbelted my son and pulled the seat upright again. He had to pound on the leg of the seat to get it into proper position. Dodge needs to take a look at this or at least warn customers!.
While strapped into a 2003 Dodge caravan's middle captians seat,my son was in his car seat that was using the latch system. The middle seat of the van pivot to give acces to the rear seats. In duing so the middle seat could sit back in the proper position without locking down into the floor. It will look like it is locked but could not be. Since the ancor and tether for the latch carseat are attached to the seat and not to the floor or roof or car. When the middle seat pivots the carseat go with it. So when my son was strapped into his car seat and the middle seat povitted during a stop. My son was thrusted into the back of the drivers seat. His face was cut and badly bruised due to the drivers seat's hard plastic back. My complaint is why dont they have the latch system attached to the car and not the seat and why does the middle seats sit like they are locked down even though they might not be. I did contact Dodge they were not interested in the problem.

We bought our Dodge Grand Caravan on March 11th 2000, within the following month we took the van back to the leith dealer ship that we bought it from to complain about a very loud popping noise that was comming from the front right wheel well and we were told and I quoite " that is a noise that is very common to
Dodge vehicles" and basiclly told we would have to live with it. It got worse so we took it back again to the same dealership and told them that the problem was deffiantly worse and would you please look at it, again we were told the same thing. All in all we took it back to the dealership at least 3 or 4 different times and everytime the answer was the same. In March of this year (2003) we took our van in to a local firestone to have new tires but on the van and I asked once again if they would check and see if they could find the source to the noise, and they did. For 3 years we drove around with the wheel hub comming off, it turned out the the wheel hub asembley was loose and coming off you could pull the wheel in all different directions with it tightly bolted to the van itself, the gas struts had to be replaced and the sway bar link kit had to replaced on it also. All in all the total bill ended up as $800. 09 to get the van fixed. We have also had to have the calipers replaced twice on the van and we have been told once again that this is also common to Dodge vehicles. We would love to be reimbersed for this because the dealership sold us this vehicle in this shape and knew it and then lied about it not once but several times but the dealership is no longer in business.

While driving back seat popped out of track.
The seat directly behind the drivers has seatbelt receivers that are flush with the seat. This is a problem if you place a child's safety seat on that bench and hook it in because any child that enters the car and tries to hook their seatbelt in, could unhook the child safety seat. They can unhook it simply by putting a toy down next to them or even if the child in the safety seat should drop a toy it could unhook the latch. This has happened to me more times than I can count. One time as I was turning the corner my sons seat flipped completely over and landed next to the bench (between the bench and the door). You can imagine how angry I was. I have tried to go to Dodge and I have called the ntsb as well as the national carseat safety bureau, but I have no answers yet. I have written to Dodge, but have yet to hear from them. To keep my son safe and alive I have had to remove the middle bench and move the rear seat forward, as it has belt latches that are more difficult to unhook( they are longer) and have remained latched. Do you have any suggestions for me in getting in touch with someone who can help? or to make sure someone in safeety and design at Dodge will know how potentially dangerous those hooks are. Thank you for taking the time to hear me and offer suggestions. Sincerely, lisa rambo.
