Hatchback/liftgate Support Device Problems of Dodge Grand Caravan

Have had the brand new van for only 2 weeks and liftgate (back hatch) on van does not open. I have a base model so I have to open it manually. . . Tried everything . . . Nothing will open it. Taking it to dealership this weekend. Hopefully they can't open it.

The hatchback pushed a portion of the support bracket into the vehicle and caused interior damage. The arm of the liftgate snapped and fell on the contact's head. She checked the manufacturer's website to find out if her VIN was included in NHTSA campaign id number 97v079000 (structure:body:hatchback/liftgate:support device). She discovered that her VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current mileage was 218,523 and failure mileage was approximately 217,000.

Rear power liftgate on 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan freezing in open position. 1st happened when vehicle was 6 mo. Old. Dodge replaced latch and reset door motor. 2 1/2 yrs later same problem and same resolution.

The rear hatchback door electrical actuator unit blew out. Consumer discovered you cannot over ride the door in any way to gain access to that section of the vehicle.

Bolt holding hatch strut to side of vehicle sheared in half causing the hatch to fall on top of the person attempting to close the rear hatch door. Person closing door was not seriously injured. Strut arm scratched rear bumper when hatch fell. Defective part was saved.
