Would not start . Dealer said was tipm. Other people with vehicle like mine said theirs did same thing then stalled on road and got rear ended thank god that part didn't happen to me but it could have. Safety issue ???? I had trouble getting it to start then I could here something running in the back by gas cap didn't know what it was. The next morning I went out to try to start it and the battery was dead. The pump in the gas tank was what was running and drained the battery. Got a jump from repair place in town. Drove it when I got home and then have to leave in morning it would not start like it wasn't getting any gas. Turned over just would not fire. Had to have it towed to dealer. Only had 86000 miles on it.

Noticed gasoline smell every time I stop/park car & get out. After few weeks, checked underneath van & saw gas slowly dripping from about middle of gas tank. It was running down the side fromn the top of tank. Stopped drippiong after stopped for few minutes, but found out that while van was running it dripped constantly. Googled this problem & other are having same problem with cracks in fuel pump. This could be a serious problem with a spark/hot exhaust pipe/muffler close by.

Filled up with gas, drove about 2 mins, slowed to turn left at intersection with stop light. My minivan then stalled while in the middle of the intersection. This is the third time the car has died after fueling. I replaced my battery and alternator upon recommendation by local auto parts store, but the problem persists. Dodge dealer service technician says "it's a common problem and being investigated" and said I need a new gas tank due to a bad valve and recommended replacing the fuel pump and filter while doing the maintenance, over $1000. I dread getting gas and won't let my wife drive the kids in the van anymore. It's a death trap waiting to happen.
Smelled raw gasoline smell outside of vehicle after running vehicle. Occurred on two occasions on Aug 23, 2016. Looked under vehicle on 8/30/16 and saw and felt liquid fuel on fuel tank in vicinity where fuel pump goes into gas tank. Leak occurs when ignition is in the on (running) position. Did online research and found that others have had same problem with fatigue cracks in plastic top of fuel pump, where fuel hose attaches. When key turned on and fuel pump is pressurized, fuel begins to leak through the hairline crack. Dangerous, as muffler and exhaust pipe are located less than one foot from the source of the leak!! took vehicle to repair facility, who determined fuel pump module was leaking as described above. Cost over $500 to have new pump installed, even though the old fuel pump was still working, though leaking.
Every time I fill my tank (I do not top off), within a few minutes of leaving the station, the van dies. It normally re-starts, but it takes quite a lot of gas pedal pumping. This is dangerous when it happens in the middle of an intersection. I had the fuel pump and filter replaced and that did not solve the problem. Now I understand that the valve on top of the tank is at fault, but you have to replace the entire tank. This is a design flaw and needs to be corrected.

When parking and shutting the engine off, I get out and walk toward rear of the van, I can smell gas but I can not find any gas leaking on the ground and the gas cap is on tight. I had a friend tell me that they had similar problem on their Dodge Grand Caravan and they had to drop the gas tank and found a leak on top of the tank. It is a strong odor and I am afraid a smoker tossing a butt near the van might cause an explosion. This is an e85 fuel engine but that is hard to find so I use unleaded regular. I have not had chance to get this in to have it checked and repaired. Just checking on recall possibilities first.
On December 05/2002 my 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan caught on fire. The car was just warming up prior to being used to take my kids to school. The fire was extinguished by the dekalb county, georgia fire department. I learned after the fire that Chrysler had a recall related to a fuel rail/system defect. I have all major mechanic work done at the authorized Chrysler dealership and was never told of this recall.
