Other Fuel System Problems of Dodge Grand Caravan - part 1

The vehicle randomly and dangerously stalls while driving at various speeds and locations. The vehicle will not restart until battery is disconnected and then reconnected. It then starts right up and runs fine until the next episode of stalling. This has been addressed by NHTSA campaign # 19v813 recall for bad fuel pump relay but my VIN # has not been included in this recall even though the vehicle is in the same year as the other vans covered under the recall. This is a very dangerous condition that keeps happening even after leaving the van with the Chrysler dealer for a week to diagnose and they say they don't have a definitive fix for it but offered to replace the entire tipm for $1700 without a guarantee that the problem will be permanently fixed! the faulty fuel pump relay is well known and has been addressed with an external fuel pump relay kit covered by this recall. Please help us get our vehicle covered under this recall as we are retirees on a fixed income and have already spent too much money (close to $1000) trying to fix this known problem. Already replaced the ignition module which was another known possible cause but the problem still remains.

I have a 2014 Dodge caravan. The van only has 48 k miles. The battery went bad so I replaced the battery. Then the problem started. 1st the car will not turn off. I remove the key and the engine is still running and won't turn off. I had to remove the asd relay which was very hot. Once I was able to shut down ,now the dashboard shows the car in reverse but it is actually in park and won't come out of gear. The check engine light is on, the tire is low light is on, and the car with tire tracks is on,(abs). I looked up recalls and they have had a recall on the fuelpump relay .

This is the fourth time I am filing a complaint. My 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan completely dies and looses all power going over 50 miles per hour. No warning, no codes appear, nothing. Looses all power, power steering, brakes, etc. Have to get to side of road, wait 20 minutes, then car will start. This has happened now over 25 times. The latest time I was driving on the expressway and the vehicle behind me almost crashed into me. This continues to be a safety issue and it is unclear as to why Dodge is doing nothing about this despite multiple complaints by hundreds of drivers. I have spent $3000 so far trying to fix this to no avail, new battery, fuel pump, fuel filter, tpm relay, new keys, new programming, still happens. Case manager from 2023 told me to take to Dodge dealer, spent additional $800, but they had no root cause. Happened again. Case manager told me to take to a different Dodge dealer for second opinion. No codes, no root cause, but charged $400 diagnostic fee. When is Dodge going to do something about this? how many complaints are needed? does someone have to get injured? just tell me how to fix it, that is what I and thousands of others this happens to need to know before someone gets killed.

My wife was stopped at a drive through window in drive when the engine stalled. It wouldn’t crank over and needed to be pushed out of the way and towed. The tipm failed and needed to be replaced. The repair was done at a Chrysler dealer and they took the faulty part after repair. Safety was at risk because if this had happened in the middle of the road it could have caused an accident. My wife was lucky it happened at the drive through. Vehicle not inspected by police or insurance. No warning lights or other symptoms, just engine stalled.

Van is driven a few thousand miles per year since we purchased. Routine maintenance up kept and has just over 100k miles. Replaced coils, plugs as routine for maintenance but having a cylinder 2 misfire, then it became #6 and now is "multiple random misfire" codes. Vehicle shutters dangerously when driving and engine light comes on intermittently. Every person I know with this pentastar v6 has had identical problems!.

My car shuts down while idling at a stop light. Before that happens, the rpm drops down, the car shakes a bit, and then the engine dies. What could be the problem?.

The oil filter housing for Jeep Dodge Chrysler 3. 6 is originally made with plastic. Now its made with metal. My van is leaking oil. I went to get an oil change and was told from the shop that I had a oil leak. Oil is all over the engine. They were telling me that they see this so often, and that it should be recalled. Jeep has the exact same issue and has a recall. I can actually smell it inside the car. This is the second time I was told this. The leak is getting worst. Times are super hard out here. I would love if someone could look into this.

While driving engine was cutting out, stalling, hard to restart. Found the reason was thr tipm. Found there was a safety recall r09 / NHTSA 15v-115 fuel pump relay, however this was for other fiat Chrysler models and not the Dodge Grand Caravan, please help me understand why? the tipm within this caravan is the same tipm installed is other fiat Chrysler models and clearly the same danger concerns. I don't believe I need to tell the NHTSA how scary it was to be driving 65 on a freeway when this occurred putting my life and others around me in danger of possibly losing control of a vehicle. Then learn this same tipm was part of a large recall, but only on some models and not all. Makes absolutely no sense. I would ask that this prior recall be extended to all models with this tipm installed as I can only imagine how many others have experienced this; god forbid and accidents were caused. When I pump gas in the tank. It keeps stopping and it will not allow me to put more gas in the tank. Also the gas hand on the dashboard stays at half full. I don’t know how much gas is really in the tank. And electrical the passenger window will not let down on the driver side. I can’t let the window down from the driver side.

After talking to others and researching and reading reports this seems to be another ghost problem: driving around town this issue doesn't usually occur but, on a long drive and coming to a stop or near stop such as a traffic light and/or in traffic my van starts to die. Depending on how long I am going to be stopped or slowed down to a crawl I either have to keep one foot on the brake while accelerating or switch to neutral. When switched to neutral I have to keep a foot on the accelerator while switching back into drive. Sometimes turning the ignition off and back on helps, usually not. The danger is the risk of being rear ended or stalling when pulling into traffic.

Cylinder 2 misfire code p0302. I replaced the spark plugs, coil, and injector. Code still remains. Vehicle seems to run fine.

Hello,my concern is safety and all of the recalls,have never been sent to my mail/honored. There seems to be safety issues with the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan engines,transmissions,tp sensors,door bend agitator. Theres more but id rather have a safe healthy outcome. Also my vehicle accelerates at a un safe speed of over 80 mp when at 30 mpg without my foot even being on the pedal??? OH my not safe,and police have to help stop vehicle on freeway with 5 lanes of ongoing traffoc very unsafe and scarry. Please help get these issues fixae ASAP . Thank you.

I bought the car 2 weeks ago with 105k miles on it. The car has died approximately 20 times in the last 2 weeks while I am driving it. It is so insanely dangerous, you will be going down a busy street and the car completely dies without warning. There is no dash lights on, no warning. The power steering goes. It's an accident waiting to happen, it’s unacceptable. After spending 2k at the mechanic and still the same problem. They have now told me I need the tipm replaced at the dealership. Which also affects the lights, which are erratic, they come on or come off when they want, along with the horn. It’s also pushes the motors into limp mode so it runs really hard over 20 miles an hour even while idle. The car will also die while in idle/park or when you shift gears. The car is basically an all day event to start and if you get it to stay on, if you are able to get it, don’t touch the key or it will automatically the car off. The tipm system will also stay on, even while car is off causing your battery to drain.

V51 recall cause problems with power control module. Poor fuel economy trouble starting/ restarting engine not receiving power.

I was driving my van which I have had nothing but trouble with this Dodge caravan, go to turn at the intersection and it just shuts off started right back up but starting to turn and it just shut off. Happened twice now, had the battery checked and every thing else seemed good just didn’t know why this happened but it almost got us hot the first time. There are a lot of Dodge vans that aren’t included in the s44 recall and our VIN numbers don’t pop up. I mean the air bags are killing people in these Dodges now, I’ve had nothing but a hard time with this vehicle. They are unsafe, if I wasn’t poor and could afford a good van and not bottom of the barrel I wouldn’t be dealing with this it seems. But the poor are expendable. I’d rather take my kids in my beat up Ford than in my new van. That’s crazy. It’s going to get someone killed if it hasn’t already happened.

Dealership still cannot pinpoint exactly what is wrong but the car does not start. One time it’ll start and the next it won’t. It’s actually left me stranded in the cold because that seems to be the only time it won’t start. It’s happened to many other Grand Caravan owners too. No mechanic I’ve taken it to can solve the problem I’ve spent so much money replacing parts on this car.

10/2020 - bought this van at findlay Honda in henderson, relied upon carfax report provided by the dealer that no manufacture recalls reported to carfax. Vehicle qualifies for the carfax buyback program. [xxx] - @ around 1am I was driving at [xxx] towards [xxx] when the van lose power and was forced to parked near a safety zone. Waited out for an hour and was able to arrived home safely. 02/24/24 - called findlay Honda about the incident but was told it was not covered by an extended warranty. Was told to call towbin Dodge henderson. The van was towed by agero towing to towbin Dodge for diagnosis. 02/29/24 - towbin Dodge henderson confirmed that the automatic transmission failed and must be replaced and fix for $8,100+ coz it's no longer covered by a manufacturer's warranty for driving 60,298 miles. The vehicle was not inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives. [xxx] - I noticed a dashboard warning to change oil so I went to a mechanic friend for change oil that day. Went back to mechanic on 02/21/24 because the warning for change oil still popping up. Ask to check the transmission oil and showed me the oil level is proper and color is red. The van has shut off without warning while driving.

It started off as the can stalling occasionally when I came to a stop. Then it became more and more frequent. Video is available to see the rpm move and then drop to 0. I then have to restart the vehicle which causes a delay which other drivers are not patient about. They immediately want to go and I have to flash my hazards and restart the van. Mechanical issue is unknown by the mechanic and dealer service department.

I have a problem with fuel pump circuit . It stays open and drain the battery after I shut the car off ,the problem with the fuel pump rely witch s integritated in the tipm, to solve the problem I have to replace whole tipm wich is cost $1070. All Dodge Grand Caravan model 2010 to model 2020 have same problem . Please liste this problem as a recall. Thanks for understanding.

The vehicle has a permanent cylinder 2 misfire. The misfire has at times produced an unexpected change in the vehicle's acceleration which could be dangerous in certain traffic conditions. The vehicle has been inspected by an independent service center who determined that the source of the misfire is either a mechanical component inside the engine or part of the valve train. I have been told that this issue could result in sudden engine lockup during operation.

Evap purge valve replaced still having issues. Also, today out of no where my vehicle started to slip when it was shifting gears, the engine is making a weird sound and slow when trying to give gas.

For some reason my caravan has started leaking gas from on top of the gas tank. Not sure why, but I heard the was a recall but it was over 15 years ago so you people don't list anything older. I've only had the car a couple months, and also having a catalytic converter problem as well. .

Misfire cylinder #2 all components have been replaced yet the problem still exists.

I was driving down highway 60 when my van backfired. I thought it was a blown tire & started pulling off the highway. When pulling off the highway I noticed the orange glare off the side rails on the highway. That's when I realized that the van had caught on fire under the hood. Once I pulled over I had a friend call 911 to report my van on fire while I tried to open the hood & put the fire out. The hood was to hot to open so I grabbed everything I could from my van & stayed clear of it until the arizona fire dept & arizona highway patrol came. All my information was taken by the arizona highway patrol. I was told that my van will be at j&s towing & that my friends & I can leave the scene.

My van would start shift in to hear but not go forward (or backwards), there is a high pitched whine not normal for the car. There are recalls on other 2015 vans for the transmission oil pump. Which is exactly what’s wrong with my van.

The van started shaking on a trip. Codes p0172 and p0175 have been on for nearly 2 months. Many parts have been replaced. Spark plugs, O2 sensor, fuel injectors, ignition coils, and battery. The mechanic replaced gaskets and fuel pump. Codes won't go away. The van randomly takes multiple time to start. It shudders and has acceleration issues when the fuel I low.

While driving down the highway, my vehicle suddenly went to full throttle. Shocked me so that I held the brake pedal down as hard as I could to keep from rear ending the car ahead of me. After several hundred yards, my van dropped back to idle. Checked and found out this had been a problem with Chrysler vehicles in the 2015 -2016 models. My vehicle has 50,000 + miles on it. Checked with davis-moore, my dealer, and they know nothing.

Car will crank but not start. Can cannot be started intermittently which could be dangerous considering location of vehicle, adverse weather conditions, etc. There are no warning lamps or messages related to the problem. This is a known problem with other Chrysler models and model years. Timp fuel pump relay has failed. Bypassing the fuel pump relay will allow car to start. The tipm failed which caused a loss of power to the vehicle and power to the fuel pump. I was driving at approximately 60 mph when the vehicle lost all power and the steering wheel felt locked. I was unable to turn the steering wheel as the Dodge Grand Caravan came to a quick stop as if it was out of gas. Luckily I reacted quickly and was able to avoid an accident. After approximately 10 minutes of trying to restart the vehicle and drive to a safe location the vehicle restarted. This happened again when I was driving and came to a red light at a major intersection and the vehicle stalled out as if out of gas and the steering locked. I again tried to restart the vehicle intermittently for 15 minutes; after which it finally restarted, and I was able to drive and get out of the intersection without an accident. I was lucky that this didn't cause an accident. The other times the defective tipm and power to the fuel pump caused the vehicle to fail to start and left me stranded. I have had the vehicle diagnosed and the tipm repair price is quite expensive. The vehicle did not have any check engine or warning lights before this occurred. I have read many similar complaints of this occurring with others driving Dodge/Chrysler vehicles. I feel that there is evidence that the tipm and the fuel pump on the 2011 Dodge caravan are safety concerns. Every experienced mechanic I have spoken with is aware of the common issue with the tipm, and power to the fuel pump and vehicle. Although I avoided an accident there is a concern for everyone's safety.

Hard misfire and rough idle creating issues while in traffic, almost rear ended multiple times because of loss of acceleration. Inspection by mechanic says misfire in cylinder 2 couldn't be fixed. (multiple coils and spark plug replacements) mechanice made contact with a gm certified mechanic who indicated this is a common problem in the 3. 6 engine used in these vehicles. Issue is deep within engine and requires complete engine replacement. It was explained to me that the engine could keep going as-is, or debris could begin breaking off inside the engine and cause total loss at any time. Researched and found similar issue with 2012 engines.

The engine stops at any time. It may restart quickly or it may take a couple of hours to start. I had my fuel pump relay replaced, but it continues to stop when ever it wants. The fuel pump stops and then I run out of gas. I have read online of a problem with the tipm fuel relay going bad. There was a recall in the Jeep grand cherokee and other jeeps, for this same exact occurrence. So, why not for the Dodge Grand Caravan van? I called Dodge in laporte in, with this problem and was told that if the tipm is bad, I will have to pay for it being replaced. If this is a nationwide problem, it needs to be addressed, I was driving thru the city and country when it quits. Very little control of brakes and steering. So what is the next step?.

Check engine light came on. Vehicle would shake and have trouble accelerating when I put my foot on the gas pedal, it was worse if gone above 45 mph. Vehicle was sent to mechanic for diagnosis and repair. P0302 code was read for #2 fuel cylinder misfire. Pcv valve, coil pack, all spark plugs, & fuel injector were replaced. Check engine light is still on. Vehicle cannot be operated under mechanics safety recommendation. There is still a cylinder 2 misfire. Car can stall at anytime if operated. Dodge dealership have been notified and said there are no recalls. Warranty only covers up to 60,000 for power train issues. I’ve called another shop as well for a 3rd opinion, the engine has been failing in many vehicles with the same code.

The van just stopped like it ran out of gas. It did not restart until the next day. I can drive for days, then without warning it will die. I changed the drummond fuel vapor leak detection pump and the fuel pump relay. It stopped again a few days later. Same thing, it acted like it ran out of gas. It will restart a few hours later or the next day. It has happened 4 times so far.
