Dodge Grand Caravan owners have reported 281 problems related to other fuel system (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Dodge Grand Caravan based on all problems reported for the Grand Caravan.
The tipm fuse box under the hood has a malfunction which causes certain components to randomly start and stop working. This has caused the engine to stay running while the ignition is off, has caused the fuel pump to start and stop, has caused the abs brake system to fail, and causes major component issues with lights and other electrical parts. This has been reported several times to Chrysler and Dodge for this year, but there is no recall or fix available.

The sliding door actuator lock gets stuck in the locked position. Making it unsafe for me and my kids to get out in an emergency. Same with the back trunk. It was stuck for months then just started working again.

At various speeds from 35mph to 70mph, van will accelerate without manual input to the accelerator pedal. To stop the acceleration, the pedal must be "smashed" several times before the throttle responds. It is as if the cruise control acceleration spontaniously activates even though cruise control is not on or being used. Extremely dangerous!!!.
I have 2017 Dodge caravan, I loves this van I recently went to the shop to do routine repairs. Also get the engine light checked, the mechanic stated I need a tune up. A few days later after getting the tune up check engine light came back on, and van begin to ride rough and shake. The van was struggling to keep up with city speed limit and engine light came back on so I took the van back to the shop they checked engine light and it read cylinder 2 is back firing and get a tune up. That did't seemed right so the mechanic checked previous work, there was no problems with the parts they used for the tune up, the mechanic looked a little further to find out why the engine light still on. The mechanic said I need a cylinder, they told me to go to the dealer because they don't have that special tools to fix the cylinder. I said how much to replace the cylinder the mechanic said about 2,000 dollars or depending on the damages to the engine because of bad cylinder. They also said there were some coolant and other substance leaking onto the coil, wires causing damage to the engine, also in a short time the spark plugs and coils will be effected again. The mechanic said this can be very expensive to repair and I can't use my remote starter while the engine light is on this is so inconvenience. I am so upset I worked hard at keeping up repairs, keeping van nice and clean inside and out, I was just to the point of paying off my car loan off finally owning the van. Now this situation forcing me to make a decision keep my investment or trade it off, get back into debt and having a large car note, I don't want that I am so heart broken over this situation and not having the money to fix the van it's just to much. I was blind sided never, I would never thought this would happen to me and my family of six. Omg!.

Cranks but no fuel fix. Possible tipm fuel pump relay issue.
All engine and interior is muddy, I brought it once for windows not working and motor got replace, transmission was replace now gasoline leaking and ac is not working, electric ports dont work.
My vehicle began shutting completely off while in drive and approaching a stop. This has endangered myself as well as my family due to the current condition and unpredictability of the engine turning off while approaching a stop light or stop sign. The vehicle has been inspected by a Dodge service location and the check engine light does come on. Also included is a mopar warranty bulletin addressing the same issue with the same engine but on previous years (2011-2013) of the Grand Caravan and multiple models. I am experiencing the same conditions on a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan.
The vehicle will randomly die and most of the time, it will start back up. It will die when it is stopped and idling, and it has died when I am driving it at all speeds. It dies on the interstate driving 75 mph, on the highway going 55 mph, on a street going 35 mph, and in a subdivision going 15 mph. It has been taken to a certified mechanic who could reproduce the problem but could not diagnose the cause. I took it to the dealership where they said they were not able to reproduce the issue or find any diagnostic error codes. Yet, the dealership was able to find a software upgrade and a "leaky pan" from the transmission that cost me over $550. When I left the dealership, the vehicle died about 2 miles in the middle of a large and very busy street. I tried to restart the vehicle, but it wouldn't start the first 11 tries. After a few minutes, on the 12th try, it did start up and I was able to drive it home. The next morning the vehicle started 4 times but died all 4 times. The first 2 times it died both times after idling for 2 minutes. The 3rd and 4th time it started up and then died within 10 seconds. I had the vehicle towed back to the dealership. The dealership still has it and cannot find out for sure what the actual issue is. They want to try a $3,000 repair, but they are not sure it will actually fix the issue. After searching the web it is not hard to find that so many people have had this same issue. What I would like to know is why so many of these vehicles are allowed on the road without there being a recall to fix this issue? vehicles on the road that can easily die with no warning, that is terrifying. Especially a family vehicle. So many families with children of all ages put in danger by defective parts that cause a vehicle to die with no warning and then no error codes when the vehicle is diagnosed, even at a dealership. I could think of nothing more dangerous for a vehicle or a family traveling in this vehicle than this.
I have been tracking an evap leak with a fuel smell at the rear of my vehicle. I found a burn hole in the top of my fuel pump. This is the original fuel pump. I feel that this could have caused an explosion.

Superior protection plan information for 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan service echelon automotive <service@echelon-auto. Com> wed, Nov 2, 2022 at 8:34 am roenika armstrong <roenikapa@gmail. Com> laura erbaugh <laura@daytonrotary. Com>, robert. Erbaugh@hotmail. Com roenika, here are some photos of the rear driver side brake system where it is locking up on you. I want to express my disappointment in whoever sold you this vehicle and not only sold it to you in this condition but if I heard you correctly, they said it was inspected? if it was inspected and this condition got through I would not be trusting the repair facility that “inspected” this vehicle for the “seller” of this car. Can you ask for the inspection report findings? MA’am, we cannot even diagnose further issues until the brakes on this vehicle are brought up to a safe standard so it can be test driven properly. I reviewed your vehicle service contract through superior protection plan and I found the mileage logged on the form dated 10/06/2022 (Thursday) as 87,158 miles when sold to you. Your current reading on your mileage on vehicle is 87,934 miles. That is about a 776 miles added to this vehicle from that purchase day to the date we received your vehicle during the week of October 24 th through the 28 th and it was left on our lot. This being said, I find it very difficult to believe you actually drove 776 miles from the 10/06/2022 purchase to this point with the vehicle in this very unsafe condition. If you did drive that much in this vehicle like it is you are much braver than I. As the pictures show this issue didn’t happen while this vehicle was in your possession, this was years of sitting and rusting on these parts and it was sold to you in this condition. Worries me very much. Your vehicle has been in a local repair facility several times already and another facility further north from here and again this issue was not spotted. So, I’m not sure what you want to do here on this issue. I’ll help as.
Sounds like a machine gun when trying to start. Have to turn key completely off to get the sound to stop. Not starting sometimes and cutting off when driving. Lost all power on a main highway including my brakes and power steering. Completely shut off. Also the back air ac doesn't work at times. Seems to not have enough power to roll down windows at times and you can only use one window at a time. Battery, alternator, and starter test fine. Replaced relays and still same problem. Throwing code for not reaching coolant temp. Replaced thermostat gasket still throwing code. No other codes or lights showing up. Heard of an ignition switch and power train recall but when I put my VIN in it says there are none.

2017 I purchased my car. I had several problems with the key lock and car starting. Immediately tried to return the car but dealer wouldn’t allow it. I have now found out there were 2 recalls in 2017 I was not aware of this until now. Even though Dodge has stated to me they were fixed as a consumer if my car was presenting issues so early on after these recalls I should have had a grace period to give the vehicle back if other issues were presented. Currently car is smoking on the drivers side with a heavy burning smell. Car is over heating as well as the car would not stop while I was driving it on8/23/22 in a mall. Car was shutting off a lot. I was under warantiy and took it to aamco and found out there were transmission issues. My warranty company at the time let my car sitting at aamco despite the major issue and refused to fix it as well as let my warranty expire. Now I am scared to drive this car concerned the vehicle won’t stop.
Problem trans , copliar , overhearting and tires but my Dodge still sit at shop waiting but still owe vehical and try bank and dealership frustrated and need drive school , college , etc shop said different water pump , motor , trans , but fixed themiost and not work and worse now so can’t drive and still owe I am not happy and please email me and can’t speak voice phone thanks.
The tipm has a built in fuel relay switch which fails sometimes won't allow vehicle to start other times it and stall while driving twice in one trip my vehicle stalled on the highway loss of all power and engine completely shuts off with no power steering or brake assist very scary and wreckless was very fortunate to have avoid multiple accidents the is already a recall associated with this issue on the Dodge durango and Jeep cherokee but for some reason the doge Grand Caravan was left off and it posses a huge safety risk for the people and families that are driving them!.
Rough idling. Misfire. I've changed the sparkplugs twice already, the wiring harness, injectors, purge valve, etc.

It started out as the van would not start almost everytime I got ready to leave and would have someone jump my battery, and it would start right back up. After a few weeks of having to do this, I had help jumping my battery once again but this time my wind shield wipers wouldnt shut off resulting in me having to take the fuse out and back in when it rains. When this happened the what I believe is called the "multi functional shift " (the stick on the left side of steering wheel that controls my wipers, wiper fluid, turn signals, bright lights, etc. ) completely stopped working with no sign of it having problems previously. Along with that the stereo keeps flickering and switching channels on its own. Lastly, when I am pumping gas, I can barely pull up the trigger without the pump shutting off like as if my tank was full. This has all happened in the last 6 or 7 months or so and has not yet been investigated.

The tipm fuel pump relay is stuck causing the fuel pump to stay on even when the vehicle is turned off and the key is not in the ignition switch. This problem is, its dangerous if I was ever to be in an accident and fuel pump will stay on according to the mechanic. Also my car battery is drained after an hour making it undrivable until I call a tow or get a jump start. It was inspected by a mechanic and the vehicle is available for inspection. No warning lamps were on or previous symptoms before 4/30/21. Only the sound of a running fuel pump when the car is completely off. Mechanic states car is known to have this issue. Recalls were made for other Dodge vehicles with same part number but they failed to include the this model.

The vehicle engine has stopped running while driving at highway speeds (50-70 mph). I have been able to roll off of the travel portion of the highway, but there was concern with vehicles behind me possibly hitting me. All electrical components continued to operate when this happens, including the radio, lights and ac/heat blowers. It has happened in December 2020, may 2021 (2 times within about 1 hour), July 2021 (2 times within 2 days), December 2021, and April 2022. In all instances the vehicle has restarted in about 30 minutes. An independent repair shop investigated the issue in July 2021 and was not able to find any codes or to reproduce the engine stopping. Several years prior to these instances the vehicle began to "not start" immediately when the key-fob was turned; it starts after tuning the key on and off several times. The vehicle was inspected by a Chrysler dealer and the dealer could find no codes or reproduce the instance.
Van will shut off without warning while driving on the freeway. Loss of power steering and brakes is a major safety issue! my wife had this happen twice now, both times in a near-miss accident on the freeway. There are no codes.
Several times in past year after filling the gas tank, shortly after driving away from gas station the engine misfires and stalls. This has been a safety hazard when merging into traffic. This problem is widely noted in forums on the internet for Chrysler minivans, for many other model years including the 2005. The best explanation being given (link follows) is that the vapor/liquid separator valve on top of the fuel tank has failed, a part that is not replaceable--the entire fuel tank must be replaced. Some report it happened when their minivan was brand new. Https://ricksfreeautorepairadvice. Com/engine-stalls-after-filling-tank-Chrysler-minivan/.

Loss of propulsion power while driving. Sounds like the fuel pump is running even after car is turned off. Battery will drain after a couple hours.
As of March 2022, the van has shut down while driving on the interstate. The steering wheel, brakes and vehicle become hard to use. The van will slow quickly and has come close to causing an accident on multiple occasions. When along the side of the road, its then a challenge to get the van to start. It will crank with no fire. This has occured over 10x and is occurring more frequently with time. Along with the shut down I have had issues with the vehicle not starting. It will crank with no fire. Several mechanics have replaced and wormed on the vehicle with no luck to the conclusion. Things changed: tipm, engine computer, fuel pump, starter. I purchased this vehicle Jan 2 2022.
Leaking oil from a cracked oil filter plastic cap after changing oil. Read that this is common in Dodge Grand Caravan. Don’t see why this issue has not been recalled. Hazardous incident can be a fire resulting from the oil filter that’s located at the top leaking down to the engine as well as onto the transmission. Another hazardous incident can be where the oil flies to the back where the muffler is located due to the wind while driving the vehicle which can result in a fire. My vehicle popped up with my oil changed needed to be done. Took it to Dodge dealership and I did an oil change, oil filter, air filter, and cabin oil filter and nothing was mentioned that I had an oil leak. Notice oil droppings on my driveway. Took vehicle to my son’s mechanic and he said it was a seriously problem. Oil is all over the engine and transmission. This really should be a recall. It can be a matter of death resulting from it.

Car starts intermittently especially when in colder conditions takes 3 to 4 starts , hard to start , put in neutral and starts right away ,car feels like it’s going to stall out when accelerating at times.
When driving the vehicle at random times the vehicle will shut off without warning. This becomes very unsafe as you lose all power to everything. Steering, breaks, etc. Took the vehicle to a dealership to have this issue fixed. Parts and labor cost 1500 dollars and did not solve the problem.
The tipm has failed. It causes the fuel pump to randomly engage and drain the battery. It drained so low the key fob would not work and I needed a locksmith to get inside the vehicle to pop the hood. Our van has been at lynwood Dodge since February 2022. It took over a month to diagnose and now they can not get the part. The estimate they have given me is around $2,300. That does not count two tows, a locksmith and replacing the fuel pump and a fuel related module around a month prior. The inspection was by the Dodge dealership. To my knowledge no manufacturer representative has checked this vehicle.
The tipm unit is causing issues for my wife and kids there is a recall on other models with the same part that is causing issues why wouldn’t it be a safety issue for this model as well if it can cause the same safety concern.
While driving down the highway the engine shut off. The electrical continued but all power was lost. I had to pull off on the left side of the road to avoid being hit by vehicles who immediately began passing me on the right. After stopping and putting my emergency lights on the vehicle struggled to restart. After a minute it started up and I was able to continue down the road. No check engine light came on. The van simply just shut the engine off while driving.
The accelerator pedal sticks in full throttle and forces the car to speed forward. Brakes barely overcome the acceleration and the engine will accelerate from a complete stop. Super dangerous and there are a number of threads on vehicle forums that describe the situation.
Check engine light keeps going on. Code reads for a cyclinder 6 misfire. Took vehicle to two car repair shops and both determined cyclinder 6 is unresponsive and stated this is a common issue with the 3. 6 engines. Mechanic replaced spark plug, coil and did pressure testing to rule out injector issues.
The fuel pump stays on 24 hours a day even after the engine has been turned off. These are referred to online as tipm fuel pump. The Dodge dealer wants to replace the entire box of fuses at a cost of 1000-1500. It is a known problem affecting thousands of users. So much of a known problem that there is a website that is selling electronic modules that kill the fuel pump when the key is off. Verticlevisions. Com is a website selling a hack to solve the Dodge issue. Apparently there had been a recall of other models and years but not my make or model. Quoting a youtuber "as you may know, there has been a recall on certain models of Jeep and Dodge vehicles due to fuel pump relay failures. Other vehicles in the Chrysler and Jeep umbrella may utilize the exact tipm containing the failing embedded relay as the vehicles listed in the recall, they are not listed in the VIN specific recall. To exacerbate the issue, the replacement part manufactured by mopar is explicitly reserved for only the vins for the vehicle models and years listed in the recall, so try as you might to order one online or have it serviced at the dealer, mopar will not send one without a matching VIN. Further worsening the situation, the newest version of the bypass kit is on back order for months, leaving nearly everyone that actually has a VIN listed in the recall in as terrible a situation as the rest of us. Aside from a brand new tipm for nearly $1,200. 00 or a junkyard or ebay score for a used one, if your vehicle intermittently cranks but does not start or starts but immediately dies, and is noticeably worse in cold weather and mornings, here is the best solution to bypass the relay altogether and get yourself on the road or off the side of it. Relays are important and without one, you could damage your fuel pump. Please consider this as you look to the future. " this is a safety hazard and should be recalled by the manufacturer. Other vehicles with the same issue have been recalled.
Cylinder misfire #2 is a permanent code. The first time I got it fixed the car just stopped with no warning I couldn't get it to start unless the driver door was open. The shop had it for am entire month and had a new head rebuilt 2 weeks later the light was back on. It would go off and on for the next year, we changed filters, plug, gasket. After I got it inspected last year when the light turned off for a day that was the last time it was off. I haven't been able to get it inspected yet it's over due. 2019 was 5 years ago I've never had these problems with any other vehicles that's 10+ older. They need to do something they know what's going on it happened it 2012 and they discontinued the vans in 2020. They need to make it right. The engine is not safe it randomly loosed acceleration or occasionally gains it. I'm afraid of crashing into someone or being stranded somewhere or it dying in the middle of the road. I need this vehicle I'm still paying for it and don't really have other options to for other transportation while this one gets into a shop.
This vehicle always fails to start in the colder weather. After a review of this condition. It has been found that the fuel pump relay does not send proper signal. This relay is a part of the totally integrated power module (tipm). When it fails to operate, the vehicle will experience long crank times. With its ignition switch style, as soon as you turn the key, the vehicle will continue to crank unless you manually turn the switch all the way back to the off position. This condition will cause the starter motor to overheat or burn up. Eventually the vehicle may start then die. Fuel delivery is too inconsistent when colder weather arises. You can't just replace a plug-in-style replacement fuel pump relay since it is a part of the whole tipm. This vehicle has not yet died in traffic or on the highway thank god. There is never any cel illumination or any stored fault codes. It started doing this the first winter I bought it. This is my second year and it's only just fall and it is acting up again. This is a known issue among these tipms that are on more than just this vehicle but many other Dodge/chryslers with this same tipm. Someone needs to take accountability for a faulty product that needs redesigned before these issues continue to affect the consumers that trust in their product. I hope that this issue is addressed and resolved before others continue to complain about vehicle faults, or even worse experience any catastrophic conditions resulting in death of consumers based on this faulty tipm, that controls most aspects of the whole vehicle.
