2 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/05/2014

I was driving down the road and I noticed that my steering was tight. When I looked down, my rpm's were on 0, my car had shut off and the traction control light came on. I pulled over to the side of the road, put car in park and it started right up. This happened again a few weeks after that, going the same speed. Brakes & steering gave out, was able to coast to side of road, put car in park and it started right up. On March 28th I was driving into work, going approx. 45-50 mph, noticed that my steering got tight, car had shut off again. Thankfully I was in the outside lane so I could pull over. Car started right up. It happened a 4th time on April 2, 2014. This time I felt the steering wheel getting tight, I put car in neutral and it started right up. Every time this happens my car shuts off first and then there is a 1-2 second delay before the traction control steering light comes on. My car is at the dealership right now, waiting to hear. I checked on the ignition recall for the 2010 Grand Caravans and I was told that my VIN# does not fall into the recall dates. This is very dangerous for myself, my family and others on the road. I am afraid to drive my car!!.

3 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

Vehicle while both driving on road and in park stalls. It givens no notice or warning that this is going to happen. At least 10 times I have noticed that the ignition switch has "moved" from the "run" position to "accessory," by itself. I have taken it to 3 different dealers but each has said they couldn't find an issue no codes have been coming up in the computer. I even had it stall in the dealer when I picked it up yet they have not done anything to fix the problem. When it stalls the steering wheel is extremely hard to move. I have 3 small children in the car when it stalls on main roads it is very frightening and dangerous trying to control the car, put it into neutral or park and get it to start or try to get to a safe place to restart it! I have contacted Chrysler-Dodge customer service, service managers etc all to no avail. I asked the dealer service managers if there was any recall and they told me there wasn't any. . . . I see on NHTSA website there is one but it is for 2010 and up but the 2009 vehicles also have the same stall problem! report receipt date: Mar 01, 2011 NHTSA campaign number: 11v139000 component(s): electrical system.

4 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 07/11/2009

In April of 2009 I noticed that the steering was tight at times. I checked the power steering fluid and when added, the steering was better. In cold months it was worst. In Dec. 2009 I had the power steering pump replaced. It worked for about a year. Then in Dec. 2010, I had the power steering pump flush. The mechanic said to warm up the car before driving. It worked in the summer months but not in the winter. In January 2012 the steering was really hard. I had a hard time backing up, turning either way or just driving at all. I got two different mechanics opinion and they said that the rack and pinion, steering rack, needed to be replaced. So, after changing the reservoir the rack and pinion still needed to be changed. The mechanic said they have changed a lot of rack and pinion in Dodge/Chrysler Mini vans. They are not lasting the life of the vehicle.
