Steering Noise Problems of Dodge Grand Caravan

Driving at about15 m. P. I had trouble steering and noise was coming for under the hood,I pulled over and I look under the car it was leaking lots of oil. I had it towed to the dealer,the problem was a hole in the tubing on the racken pinen steering . If it was on a highway or on a faster road it would have been a very bad accident with oil leaking and could not steer the van. I was very very lucky. There was no warning light. I have a picture of the hole. I reported to crysler.

Tl the contact owns a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving 35 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. In addition, the battery and check engine warning indicators illuminated. The contact was able to park the vehicle in a nearby parking lot. When the ignition was started, the temperature gauge increased. The contact turned off the ignition and allowed the vehicle to cool down for awhile. Afterwards, the vehicle was restarted and the contact continued driving 15 mph to his residence. The contact noticed that the steering wheel belt was loose. The contact called lithia Chrysler Jeep of reno (located at 1050 e plumb ln #100, reno, nv 89502, (775) 501-8593) and informed them of the failure. The contact scheduled an appointment with an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 147,000.

Power steering failed while driving at highway speed. While driving in town noticed a hydraulic noise as if power steering was laboring even when not turning the wheel. Stopped to check fluid reservoir and noticed it was under pressure when opened but fluid level was fine but bubbly. Proceeded to drive on freeway at 65 mph and heard loud noise from under hood. Stopped at nesxt exit and fluid was all over engine compartment. Towed to dealer they replaced pump but initial noise was evident after repair and steering still not normal. They are now replacing steering gear with aftermarket part because manufacturer part on back order. If manufacturer is out of parts this leads me to conclusion that it is defective from origin I will send invoices when I have received them, van is still in shop. I was not turning just traveling 65 mph when p/s pump blew.

2005 Dodge Grand Caravan 3. 8 steering noisy and rack & pinion leaking. Had to replace steering rack and reservoir. $1000 and only had 50000 miles. Had it to dealer 2 times for steering noise under 3-36 warranty.

Power steering on vehicle always makes a whinning noise. My neighbor has the same make and model and he says that the dealer said the power steering fluid reservoir is undersized for this vehicle. Is anyone else having this complaint about the power steering having noise and hard to turn? I bought this car used and it has always made this noise.

Power steering makes grinding noise. The noise doesn't happen all the time usually when driven alot. Took it to dealer they said they couldn't find any problem. I looked online and read that there are many complaints about this problem.

2001 Dodge caravan power steering goes out in very cold weather. Flexible power steer pump hose bursts shortly after starting car in cold morning. Complete lossof steering 3 occasions Jan 2009 2008 and 2010. Preceded with significant growling noises when turning the steering wheel prior to burst.

Power steering makes terrible whining noise and steering wheel shudders and is hard to turn - worse in colder temperatures. Problem started when van had less than 30k, it now has 58k miles. Van has ext. Warranty through Dodge covering even seals & gaskets, but since dealer calls this a "nuisance" problem - it's not warranty. We are very, very frustrated with Dodge.

The vehicle was inspected and no failures could be found. Throughout the years, the failure occurred on approximately twelve occasions. The mechanic test drove the vehicle, heard the noise, and stated that it was a common failure among the 2003-2005 Grand Caravans. Although the mechanic completed other recall repairs, he felt that he could not remedy this particular failure. The contact stated that the mechanic may have caused the failure to worsen. The contact has documentation of all the repairs. The current mileage is 23,100 , and failure mileage was 2,025.
