I own a 2002 Dodge Intrepid with a 2. 7 liter engine. Engine oil light keeps flickering. Also, sometimes the check engine light comes on and then off again. I did a code check to find it was the camshaft position sensor and oxygen sensor. I took this vehicle to the Dodge dealership. When I spoke to the service adviser and a mechanic, they stated that there is not much I can do, this is an on-going problem with these engines. I was shocked, way to go Dodge! even your own employees don't have any faith in your products! I regularly change the oil myself every 3,000 miles with synthetic.
The contact owns a 2002 Dodge Intrepid. While driving 10 mph, the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle shook and downshifted into third gear. The mechanic could not remedy the issue. The contact feels that the vehicle is unsafe to drive. The current and failure mileages were 74,000.
The contact owns a 2002 Dodge Intrepid. While driving 40 mph, the contact activated the heather, but no heat was present. Moreover, the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that antifreeze was leaking into the engine. In order to pinpoint the exact location of the leak, an additional diagnosis is required at the cost of $900. The dealer also stated that the vehicle will need a new engine because the current one was built too small, and prevents the fluids from distributing correctly. The cost for the new engine is $8,400. The engine was previously checked and minor components were replaced. The contact will not have this failure corrected due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified, but would not assist. The vehicle was under warranty for only 36,000 miles. The current mileage was 77,000 and failure mileage was 52,000.
While driving my car the check engine light came on and there was no heat coming out of the heating unit. This has occurred several times since purchasing this vehicle. The vehicle is now at the dealers they want $900. 00 just to take the engine apart. If it needed a new engine it would cost $8,000. Since we still owe $6000 this is not a practical solution. This vehicle only has 77,000 miles on it. I called daimler Chrysler this morning and they said there is nothing they can do to help me. They stated the engine is only warranted up to 36,000 miles.
We were driving our 2002 Dodge Intrepid and the engine light came on and then the engine shut off. I struggled to keep the car in control until I could pull off the side of the road. It was difficult because of loss of steering. The light had come on many times before but the service dept at my Dodge dealer could not explain it. Now they say we need a new engine because of lack of oil changes. I just had the oil changed there and they did not mention sludge in the engine.
Dodge Intrepid 2002 engine light and oil light on while driving vehicle was disable and I was not able to visit my son which I had not see for over 5 month. I need some body help. Stuck with a car that does not work.
Car was running fine, then one morning engine light came on and stayed on. Car was taken to service center. Mechanic stated that timing chain must be replaced and engine was full of sludge. $2400 for repair was paid. Approximately 2 weeks later, engine light comes on again. Same service center states new transmission is needed. $2200 for repair was paid. Do not know if old parts are available. Car is 4 years old with approximately 94600 miles. Go figure!.
: the contact stated the engine light illuminated, and one minute later smoke started coming out of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who determine a seal on the disconnected emitting fluid which caused the smoke.
The engine light came on in my 2002 Dodge Intrepid and I had it analyzed and serviced. The computer analysis indicated that the car needed 4 oxygen sensors. I had these replaced at the cost of about $600. 00 and the engine light came on again. This time the car was running rough and acting like it was going to cut off. The computer indicated that I need a map sensor. But on further inspection the mechanic discovered that I need 4 fuel injectors. The car is only 4 years old and it is falling apart. It has almost stalled on me pulling out into traffic and across roadways. Since the repairs are not complete I do not know what will happen next.
: the contact stated while driving the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle then sputtered, the engine died, and the vehicle coasted to the side of the road. The contact waited a few minutes and tried to restart the vehicle. The vehicle did not start. The next morning there was another attempt to start the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop. Updated 2/7/2006 -.
Have had 2002 Dodge Intrepid in the dealers shop in various occasions the transmission not going into gear or shifting hard at the wrong speeds. We have had issues with the gears since the day we bought it '2003. We are continuously told nothing is wrong that they cannot duplicate the action. Last month it wouldn't go into gear or when it did it moved slowly then the engine shut off. We were told once again they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Recently 8/8/05 it begin kicking and bucking while driving on 8/9/05 the service tech told us it is something totally different a "cam sensor" that they "think is possibly bad or more internal issues with the engine. " all through it they cannot duplicate what we have been complaining about. The check engine light is on now and the air bag light is on yet, they cannot seem to repair these. We have an extended warranty on the car yet, we feel the dealership is being dishonest with us. We also feel that we have been sold a lemon. We have record of each time the car was at the dealership and they have a journal of all visits in their database. We have kept the car well maintained and at 49k miles it should not be having these issues.
The problem began two or three days ago. While driving vehicle shut off and stopped. The check engine light came on. Vehicle was taken to a mechanic, and was unable to determine what the code meant. Vehicle was taken to a second mechanic, who again was unable to determine the cause of the problem. This mechanic changed the rotors, but also was unable to tell what the code meant. The vehicle shut down on a main road, a 4 lane highway, while traveling about 50 mph. There was no other warning besides the check engine light to indicate that the car was going to shut down. Vehicle coasted to a stop and rested in the turning lane. There was a little braking, but no steering ability. Electrical system was still functioning. The police came ,and the vehicle was towed to a shop. Then a couple days later the vehicle started back up with a clutter in the engine.
I financed a 2002 Dodge Intrepid in February 2003. The payments are over $400 per month for 6 years. On December 21, 2004, the engine failed. I still had a warranty on the vehicle, so I called to have it towed to the dealer where I purchased it. After authorizing them to break the engine down and see exactly what the problem was, I was told it needed a new engine. After the warranty company came out to do their inspection, I was told it was my fault and I was responsible for all charges. They said the problem was sludge buildup and lack of oil change. My problem is that there was no warning at all. There was no engine knocking , the check engine light never came on, the car was running good. And then one day the engine is no good. I still have 4 years to pay for this vehicle and I have to buy a new engine, which costs $4,000 to $7,000. (the engine only had 59,000 miles on it) this doesnt make any sense to me. I also have to pay the dealer $360 for breaking the engine down to find the problem. Is there any help for me or is there anything I can do? in the past week I have heard hundreds of complaints about these engine problems in the Dodge Intrepid. Thank you for your time. My vehicle will intermittently stall. The car can be driving at any speed and the front end will lock up on it as if it were being put in park. The engine light comes on and I to have put the vehicle in park and then restart the vehicle. Recently I had a near miss accident which two individuals almost hit me due to the car locking up.
