Front Seat Recliner Problems of Dodge Intrepid - part 1

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Intrepid. While driving 40 mph, the driver's seat suddenly reclined all the way to the back seat. The contact slipped under the steering wheel and could not touch the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and stated that it was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 100,000. Updated 07/15/08. The consumer was informed the recall was done and had bee performed correctly. The recall involved replacing the driver seat recliner bolts. The bolts were intact and installed correctly. The dealer stated the problem was internally in the seat recliner mechanism and that was not apart of the recall. Updated 07/15/08.

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Intrepid. While driving 20 mph, the driver's seat reclined backwards. The dealer stated that the vehicle needed a new seat track. The cause of the failure was unknown. The vehicle was previously serviced for NHTSA campaign id number 03v035000 (seats:front assembly:recliner). The current and failure mileages were 73,512.

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Intrepid. On June 11, 2007, while driving 5 mph, the driver's side seat failed. The contact made several unsuccessful attempts to put the seat back up. Safety recall # 03v035000 (seats:front assembly:recliner) was found. The contact stated that this recall repair was performed on January 14, 2004. The mechanic stated that the power seat adjuster needed to be replaced. The purchase date and engine size were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 95,388.

This is a corrected complaint, the complaint I filed previously had incorrect information. Driver's side seat back began reclining unexpectedly. Local Dodge dealer performed recall service on recliner bolts, but seat still continued to recline, happening repeatedly on numerous occasions, very nearly resulting in an accident with a child on a bike. Final repairs performed at local body shop, nylon gear in seat track was stripped. Was repaired with parts from a used seat assembly in good condition. Nylon gears responsible for the movement of seat back are inadequate and should be replaced by daimler Chrysler corporation with stronger quality gears. Body shop kept old seat track with defective gear and may still be available.

We have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid ES sedan that we bought new in August of 2000. In 2003 Chrysler issued a recall on a seat bolt that could break and cause the seat to fall completely backwards into the back seat. We took our car in to have the part replaced. The other day the drivers seat broke and fell back into the back seat. Fortunately the car was being parked at the time and no one was in the back seat. If we had been on the freeway or had one of our small grandchildren in the back seat the consequences could have been serious. We took the car into the dealership to have the seat repaired assuming this was the same part that was recalled. We were told this was a different part and was not under recall. If it is a different bolt as the dealer claims it should be under recall too. We were fortunate that no one was hurt. The next person this happens to may not be so lucky. The part to repair the seat is $800. 00, this will not include labor and Chrysler will not cover any of it. If you can draw attention to this serious defect in the Dodge Intrepid we would sincerely appreciate it.

In may, while driving my 2000 Dodge Intrepid on the penn turnpike, the back of the driver's seat suddenly collapsed to a horizontal position. Fortunately, I had just reduced speed as I was approaching a toll booth, thus avoiding an accident. There were less than 33,000 miles on the car at the time. In 2003 this vehicle was part of recall 03v-035; it was serviced immediately after notification in an effort to prevent this from happening.

2000 Dodge Intrepid driver side seat collapsed into a horizontal position. This occurred while the consumer was driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired. The repair cost $1000 because the entire seat assembly had to be replaced, including parts that were not broken. After the repair was made the consumer received a recall on the seat recliner (recall number 03v035000) and had that part replaced as well.

As a result, the contact could drive the vehicle home. No additional repairs were made.

I am experiencing the issue of the seat back reclining unexpectedly. It was serviced at our local Dodge dealer, pursuant to the recall of the recliner bolt. However this did not remedy the situation, as the seat back still reclines on it's own, and has occurred several times while driving. The service tech's at our local dealer did a diagnosis prior to my finding out about the recall, and claimed there was a problem with the seat track. I strongly feel that a new recall should be issued, because this issue may still exist with other Intrepids that may have already had the recliner bolt serviced.

Consumer was driviing on the freeway and the back seat just fell down.

Contact stated there was a recall on the bolts of the driver side seat; this had been repaired on June 4, 2003. Since the repairs have been done there were ongoing problems with the seat. The service dealer will perform a diagnostic test, and if it was deemed that the problem was not related to the recall the contact will have to pay for this work.

Took car for recall fix,after part broke(recliner bolts driver's seat 98 Dodge Intrepid)was told by dealer bolts can't be fixed without replacing recliner adjuster for $875 (part only)I was not satisfied with diagnostic and nothing has been fixed,it's been 3 days. Please look into this matter.

After having the bolt on driver's seat repaired through a recall the seat broke. No recall found.

Consumer received a recall for the seat bolt on driver's side. Bolt was not holding the seat in place, and the seat fell backward after the hinge broke.

On January 15, 2004 I brought my Dodge Intrepid VIN#2b3hd46rxh103584 to dohn bohn Dodge in metairie, la for replace of the drivers side recliner seat bolts. This was being done per a recall notice I received. The NHTSA campaign number id number is #03v035000. An invoice was issued stating the repairs were completed. On September 15, 2004 the same drivers side seat recliner bolt sheared in half and I lost control of the car and had an accident. I am under doctors care for injuries sustained. I reported this information to dahimler Chrysler on 10/04/2005 and they gave me a claim number #12695236. I contacted a local dealership lakeshore Dodge and they informed since I had the recall already done I would have to pay for the service. I declined and had the bolt replaced by my insurance company and retained the bolt.

Problems involving the recall repairs for 2000 Dodge Intrepid. The consumer was concerned that the bolts would break. The consumer was having a difficult time with the dealer getting the recall done in a timely fashion.

On may 30, 2003, adrian chyrsler center performed a manufacturer's recall to replace the bolts on the driver's front seat back of my car. On June 7, 2004, while in line at a fast food drive-through, one of the replaced bolts broke,and the seat fell backwards onto my daughter; my feet came off the brake pedal, and my car collided with a pick up truck which was stopped in line ahead of me.

While driving seat back reclined unexpectedly, consumer was able to pull out of the road. Dealer notified.

Dealership refused to replace the recliner bolt as indicated in the seat back recliner bolt recall 03v350000. They replaces another part of the seat that wa s not indicated in the recall.

While driving, the recliner portion of the driver's seat collapsed suddenly. When the incident happened it caused the consumer to go from a vertical position to a horizontal position in a split second and the consumer lost control of the vehicle and hit a snow bank. The consumer was told there was a recall open on the driver seat recliner bolt.

Recall no. #03v035000, seat back recliner bolt: the recall was done on the vehicle but now the seat motor has dropped down under the seat. The consumer claimed that there was no problems with the seat motor before the recall.

The driver's seat will recline unexpectedly (approximately 20-25 degrees). This will especially occur if you lean back into the seat (such as under hard acceleration). The seat must remain in the semi-recumbent position to avoid movement. The whole seat, I am told needs to be replaced.

I have great misgivings about repairs effected by a daimler Chrysler Dodge dealership on a recent recall issued by the manufacturer and effecting a several Chrysler models including my 1998 Dodge Intrepid. Recall involved changing out driver's side recliner bolts. I've contacted daimler Chrysler corp. 's customer service dept. To voice my concerns. Chrysler's customer services as informed me that their dealer confirmed satisfactory completion of the work and that the specific recall case was considered closed. I asked for a written declaration from Chrysler's customer services, confirming that the recall repairs were completed satisfactorily and were executed in strict compliance with the recommendation issued by daimler Chrysler's technical/engineering department. Chrysler's customer services refused to honor my request. What recourse do I have if I still am uneasy about the repairs effected?.

After making an appointment for recall repairs the consumer was informed by the dealer that the parts were not available for the seat reclining bolt (recall number 03 v 035 000). .

Recall # 03-v-35-000. There was a recall regarding the seat bolt, however the dealer stated they were not aware of any recall.

The consumer received a recall notice to replace the driver recliner seat bolt, however the dealership refused to fix it.

The consumers vehicle experienced symptoms of recall number 03-v-035-000 related to the seat back recliner breakage.

The dealership didn't have the parts to do the recall for the seat recliner bolt 03 v 035 000.

Consumer made an appointment with the dealer for recall 03v035000 repairs concerning seat back recliner bolt. Dealer indicated to the consumer that the repairs would take a half hour. Vehicle was at dealer for two hours and the dealer mechanic didn't look at the vehicle.

Driver's seat "falls" backward when "taking off" from stop.

I was a victim of an accident, another vehicle had struck me in the rear of my vehicle. Upon inpact the drivers side seat that I was sitting in had totally colapsed backward. Injuries where sustained to neck and back which was confirmed by medical expertise. I truly believe that the injuries where from the seat breaking, giving no support thus allowing my body to jolt backward and bounce around. This is a serious saftey hazard that needs to be addressed before lives are lost.

Driver's seat has reclined while driving 30 mph. Problem was due to a bolt shearing off. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified. Feel free to provide any further infromation.
